Product overviewThe ML8720B is used for investigation and maintenance to evaluate radio-wave propagation characteristics in the area of a W-CDMA base station. When it is connected to a GPS receiver, the measured results can be correlated with position information (latitude and longitude) .

The measures items include function for measuring the RSCP, Ec/No and SIR, which is used to evaluate the strength of the radio waves received from each base station, and the delay profile,which is used to evaluate the delay characteristics of the radio-wave caused by multi-path propagation.

There are two measurement modes: the unspecified base station measurement mode, and the specified base station measurement mode. CPICH (Common Pilot Channel) and SCH (Sync Channel) from base station are measured in both modes.

RSCP: Received Signal Code Power Ec/No: Ratio of desired receive power per chip to receive power density in the band.SIR: Signal Interference Ratio

Option03 (Model: ML8720B-03)- Two Carrier Measurement function

Two carrier frequencies can be measured simultaneously in the specified base stationmeasurement and the unspecified base station measurement.

- Diversity functionThe signal from the base station that supports transmit diversity can be measured per transmitantenna in the specified base station measurement. (The option03 should be specified together with the ML8720B mainframe when ordering.)

Option23 (Model: ML8720B-23)- The functionality of option03 is added to the ML8720B of standard configuration.

(The mainframe is taken back for retrofitting the option23 to the ML8720B mainframe.)

Option43 (Model: ML8720B-43)-Diversity function (formerly option01) is upgraded to Two Carrier Measurement function + Diversity function (option03).(The mainframe is taken back for retrofitting the option43 to the ML8720B mainframe.)

The number of channels to be measured is 32 at max. for two carrier frequencies.Simultaneous measurement of multiple carrier frequencies enhances the measurement efficiency. Also, carrier frequencies of others can be simultaneously measured for comparison.

The measurement results for all the receive channels (32 max.) can be displayed simultaneously as a graph and data. Additionally,it is possible to select the cumulative processing (Max, Min,Median, Average) for internally accumulated data and measurement interval setting.

This is a Time/Distance display of RSCP,Ec/N0 and SIR for the selected channel . (6 channels max.) The time variation can be measured in 10ms intervals for 10ms to 500s.The distance variation can be measured the speed pulse (external trigger ) for 1 to 500 pulses.

This displays the relative delay status between each base station with correlative value of P-SCH. This screen is used to confirm frame transmission timing gap or overlap between base stations. Group No. is displayed on the graph to recognize base stations.

MX872022B Data Conversion SoftwareOutline

MX872022B Data Conversion Software converts the measurement data file outputted from ML8720B W-CDMA Area Tester into the input format for MapInfo.With MapInfo, the measurement data such as RSCP, Ec/No, SIR from latitude and longitude information can be visually displayed on a map.There are two types of conversion method; [Simple Convert] and [Custom Convert].

(1) Simple ConvertIn Simple Convert method, entire measurement data file is directly converted into the input format for MapInfo.

In Custom Convert method, the scrambling codes and measurement items included in the measurement data file(RSCP, Ec/No, SIR) are selected and then converted into the inputformat for MapInfo. There are two methods to select scrambling codes; [Direct CH Select] and [Level CH Select]. The combination of these methods enables to select the arbitrary scrambling codes.•Direct CH Select

This method is used to select the scrambling codes as outputtarget by reading scrambling codes from measurement data fileand adding/deleting scrambling codes.

•Level CH SelectThis method is used to select the scrambling codes as output target where the measurement data such as RSCP, Ec/No and SIR are Max.1 to Max.3, minimum value or within a specified range in each measurement point.
