Damian Thantrey Damian Thantrey read law at Cambridge University before training at the RCM.. He is continuing his studies with Paul Farrington. He has also sung Maximillian Candide for Graham Vick’s City of Birmingham Opera, Baritone 1 The Martyrdom of St. Magnus and a concert performance of Dido & Aeneas at the Oslo Kammermusik Festival, Zurga Les Pecheurs des Perles for Chelsea Opera Group, The Messenger in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex for Opera North and Count Almaviva The Marriage of Figaro for Raymond Gubbay’s Savoy Opera. Damian has premiered over thirty new works, both operatic and in concert, including SUM for ROH2 at the Linbury and six roles in Tete-a-Tete’s tour of Six Pack, The Young Man Babette’s Feast Linbury Studio/ROH 2 and John in Almeida Opera’s production of Deidre Gribbin’s Hey Persephone! at the Aldeburgh Festival. Damian has a wide solo concert repertoire, most recently Schönberg's   A Survivor from Warsaw & Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen,.Belshazzar’s Feast at the Cadogan Hall, Dewi Sant for Harrow Choral Society, Messiah for the English Symphony Orchestra, and Mahler’s Ruckertlieder with the Salomon Orchestra. Other major performances have included Vaughan Williams’ Five Tudor Portraits with Vernon Handley/Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (live broadcast on Radio 3), The Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall with Sir David Willcocks, Bach’s Weinachtsoratorium at King’s College, Cambridge and St. John Passion at St. John’s Smith Square. He has also sung concerts of John Adams’ The Wound Dresser with Camerata Scotland in Glasgow and at the Deal and Haddington Festivals. In recital, Damian has performed Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch with Malcolm Martineau at St. John’s, Smith Square and at the Oxford Lieder Festival, and made his Wigmore Hall song recital debut in 2003. Damian has premiered a number of song works, including two world premieres with the contemporary group the Paragon Ensemble. In 2004 Damian sang at the Presteigne Festival, performing John Pickard’s song cycle The Borders of Sleep and completed a UK tour with the Rambert Dance Company singing Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer, which he repeated in 2005 along with Kindertotenlieder. 2008 saw him give a major solo recital at Pollok House in Glasgow, accompanied by Malcolm Martineau. Damian’s future roles include, Ralph Kiss Me Kate at the Chatelet.
