Over the lastseveral years, Rob & Bobcathave sponsored an equipmentrodeo and membership drive,hosted the spring and fallBoard/Committee meetings,supplied equipment to the 2011Damage Prevention Summit, aswell as exhibited at our WinterConventions and contributed tothe Missouri LICA AnnualAuction. Rob has even gone sofar as to don a tank-top and
shorts, not to mention the wig and make-up, to portray a “Shooter Girl” during oursuccessful 2011 Winter Convention Auction. Thank you Bobcat of St. Louis-Columbia, and in particular, Rob Bristow, for all the support you have given toMissouri LICA. We truly appreciate you!

Join Us for the August 29 Drainage Field Day
On August 29, Missouri LICA members will gatherin Albany, MO at the Hundley-Whaley ResearchCenter in Albany, MO to help the University ofMissouri College of Agriculture, Food and NaturalResources install a patterned drainage test plot.The event will begin at 9:00am and run into theearly afternoon, including tours of the Center’sresearch projects. The Hundley-Whaley ResearchCenter is one of 16 around the state at which theUniversity of Missouri College of Agriculture, Foodand Natural Resources conducts research.
Missouri LICA will have a booth on site, promotingour members’ services to area farmers. If youwould like to help, meet some new customers, andsee some of the agricultural research beingconducted ... make plans to join us!

OSHA 10-Hour TrainingThe Missouri Land Improvement Contractors Association (LICA)
is offering the OSHA 10-Hour Training Sessions on the following dates:
The following is a list and brief explanation of what will bediscussed during this strict 10-hour course over a two-daytime frame:
Introduction to OSHA:
This is a breakdown of safety history, what is OSHA,fines/violations, requirements, and what to do if OSHAshows up on the jobsite.
OSHA Focus Four Hazards:
Fall Protection – safeguards and how to identify fallhazards;
Electrical – identifying electrical hazards at the jobsite,what to look for, how to avoid, and general electricitytraining;
Struck By – jobsite awareness, staying out of harms way;and
Caught in/between – confined space awareness, rules andregulations for confined space entry and work orders.
Personal Protective & Lifesaving Equipment
Identifying the need and proper use of gloves, shoes,hearing protection, glasses, etc.
Health Hazards in Construction
Targeting noise levels and chemical/gas awareness at thejobsite. Also includes weather related injuries or illness,and other emergency action plans that show up at thejobsite.
Materials Handling/Storage
Proper use of chemicals, including clean up and storage.This includes all sprays, cleaners, diesels, and paints.
Excavations/Trenching/Competent Person/Jobsite
Awareness
Proper rules associated with digging, including soil typesand benching/sloping practices. Addressing who is acompetent person and what a competent person needs toknow. Other OSHA rules and regulations that address thejobsite specifically.
COURSE TOPICS:
ONSITE WASTEWATER TREATMENT LICENSES:
The Missouri DHSS has approved this course for 9.0 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Basic Installers: 4.25 hrs. 4.75 hrs.Advanced Installers: 4.25 hrs. 4.75 hrs.Inspectors/Evaluators: 4.75 hrs. 4.25 hrs.Onsite Soil Evaluators: 8.00 hrs. 1.00 hrs.Percolation Testers: 9.00 hrs. 0.00 hrs.
EACH ATTENDEE WILL RECEIVE:
Each attendee will receive a certificate of completion anda disk with all the topics, handouts, and powerpointsincluded.

Warren Plumb, Missouri LICAExecutive Secretary from 1983to 1989, passed away July 19 .
Sandy Gulick, Virginia LICA member and Vice Presidentfor Region II for many years, passed away June 19.
On July 30, National LICADirector of GovernmentRelations, John Peterson,was inducted into theNational Association ofConservation Districts(NACD’s) Southeast RegionConservation Hall of Fameat a luncheon in Destin, FL.
The Hall of Fame honors distinguishedconservationists whosecareers have resulted in thewise use of our nationsprecious natural resourcesupon which we all depend.
Peterson was nominated for the honor by the VirginiaAssociation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts(VASWCD) where he also serves on the VASWCDBoard of Directors, and is Virginia’s representative to theNACD Board of Directors.
Peterson founded KEMPS Consultants, Inc., withexpertise in natural resources public policy, waterresources, and erosion and sediment control in 1994after a highly successful career at the U.S. Departmentof Agriculture’s Senior Executive Service. At retirement,he was Assistant Chief of the Soil Conservation Service(SCS, now called the Natural Resources ConservationService – NRCS). He had also served SCS as theDeputy Chief for Administration, responsible for theSCS’s financial and personnel activities. John’s SCScareer took him from MN, to SD, OH, IN, and AZ beforecoming to USDA Headquarters in Washington, DC.
He started working with conservation districts in 1953as a high school junior. He has been involved with ournation’s 3,000 conservation districts in some capacitysince that time. Since his retirement from USDA, Johnserved as the Executive Director of the NationalWatershed Coalition (NWC) and has been on his localNVSWCD Board since 2006. He was re-elected toanother four-year term last November.
He was nominated to the Conservation Hall of Fame forhis extraordinary vision as a conservation leader at thestate, regional and national levels. He is also a retiredArmy Colonel (INF), after a 32-year active and reservecareer. John and his wife Blanche have five grownchildren and six grandchildren.
