Lacy is looking better every day. Between this summer’s heat and how hyper she can be, it has been an uphill battle to put a few pounds on her. We have moved her to her new “digs” complete with shelter and her own hay tank. When we realized that she does not like other horses near her food source, this meant setting up another paddock area. At her new location, she can easily see BJ & Montana even if they are in their shelter. She can see the driveway as well so when we arrive home, she gets all excited and there is lots of whinnying. Lacy can be a very “standoffish horse” though. She likes to see you and “talk” to you but will not always let you touch her. We are very hopeful that she will overcome this as time goes on and will get friendlier. She is not overly excited about being brushed without being on halter and lead rope. Once on halter and lead, she will do whatever you ask of her. It is probably best that she is in smaller area until her trust level gets built up more. Regardless, she is one beautiful girl who is very much loved at Misfit Acres. She can see the driveway as well so when we

arrive home, she gets all excited and there is lots of whinnying.

Lacy can be a very “standoffish horse” though. She likes to see you and “talk” to you but will not always let you touch her. We are very hopeful that she will overcome this as time goes on and will get friendlier. She is not overly excited about being brushed without

being on halter and lead rope. Once on halter and lead, she will do whatever you ask of her. It is probably best that she is in smaller area until her trust level gets built up more. Regardless, she is one beautiful girl who is very much loved at Misfit Acres.

It is so very hard to believe that we are in Fall already! Where did the summer go so quickly? Our place is buzzing with preparations for our annual fundraiser. We have received many one of a kind donations to our silent auction. We hope to make this the very best event for all of our guests. You will find the complete flyer for our 10th annual “Celebrating New Lives for Horses” fundraiser on page 3 of this issue. In the upcoming days, we hope to have photos of several of the auction items on our Facebook page.

Welcome to Fall 2012!

Even though the focus of this newsletter is our October event, fundraising is a year round job. November 15th will bring Minnesota’s “Give to the Max” day. This special event encourages everyone to support Minnesota Non Profits. There are a host of special events including the Golden Ticket drawings to be held hourly. A random donation is picked and GiveMN.org along with its sponsors will add an additional $1000 to that donation.

In order to be eligible for the Golden Ticket drawings, donations must be made on line at givemn.org or by phone to givemn.org during this 24 hour period. Information will be on our website after our October fundraiser.

And, be sure to keep an eye on our website in late November!! We will have a very special Christmas design coming up – truly unique and inspiring. That is all we are going to say about it for now!

Very dear to our hearts are Jan and Alan E. In 2006, an act of domestic violence left several animals homeless among them was Cookie, an adorable little mini horse with terrible feet. Kerri had rescued her a few months earlier with every intention of getting her the farrier care she needed. Her life ended before she could. Misfit Acres was asked to take this little pony which was when we met Jan, Kerri’s sister, and her husband Alan. In honor of Kerri’s memory, each year Jan makes “Kerri’s Quilt” to be raffled off at our fundraiser. It is Jan & Alan’s sincere hope to raise even more money to help Misfit Acres carry on with our mission. Won’t you help fulfill this dream by purchasing a raffle ticket for $3? The drawing takes place at our fundraiser – winner need not be present. Our most heartfelt thanks goes out to Jan & Alan for their kindness!!

Until Winter —Bruce and Jody

In the past few months, we have been asked several times why we are not shown much on our website. We never really considered including us personally as the mission of Misfit Acres is the Horses. Well, here we are! This is one of our favorite photos taken at the Younger Brothers event where Bruce was a cowboy in the bank robbery re-enactment.

Bruce is originally from the Kiester area and I am from the Cleveland area. Bruce has retired from the military after twenty years and currently drives gravel truck for an area contractor. I have been employed as office manager at a local heavy equipment repair shop for over 20 years. We found this great little piece of land in 1995 and moved from St. Peter to here where we could share our love of horses. And from there, Misfit Acres was born!
