    ROY HOWELL TAKES OVER AS MANAGER:The Seattle Mariners announced that hitting coach Roy Howellwould assume managerduties for the Jackson Generals for the remainder of the 2015 season beginning June 30. Jim Horner, who had managed Seattles Doubleaffiliate since the beginning of last year, recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State University. It marks tsecond-consecutive season that Howell has taken over as manager for a Seattle affiliate. Last March, he replaced Rich Donnelly as tmanager at Triple-A Tacoma after Donnelly was named the Mariners third-base coach in Spring Training. He led the Rainiers to a 74-mark, and his 74 victories were tied for the 9th-most by a manager in his first full season. Howell, in his 4th season with the Marineorganization, spent 2012 and 2013 with the High Desert Mavericks in the California League. His managerial resume includes three seasoat short-season Eugene (2003-05), three seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading tfield staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howogged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portla(2000-02).
