Original StoryM y original script told the story of a rubber chicken's journey back to a

eggs. It took place inside a joke shop and w as born out of a random s

w ords; contortionist, joke shop and egg. W ith the freedom to m ove a

restrictions of these three w ords, I decided to change m y story. Keepin

aspect in m ind, I w anted to develop the plot around the character's need

sense of belonging. I also decided to change the environm ent from a jokshop, as I felt that this w ould allow m e m ore options for other characters

e shop is em pty, but the floor is littered w ith toys. Cam era pans around the shop to a bargback corner.

IN T. IN SID E TH E BA RG A IN BIN

A rubber chicken lies alone am ongst the forgotten toys and junk.

CLO SE U P. CH ICKEN 'S FACE

e chicken looks at the shelves full of toys longingly.

(Faint laughter)

e chicken looks curiously across the shop.



P.O .V . CH ICKEN

rough the window of an elaborate doll house, a doll is laughing.

CLO SE U P. CH ICKEN 'S FACE Suddenly, the chicken jum ps up, looking excited.

IN T. TO Y SH O P

e chicken clim bs out and bounds across the room . e cam era follow s the chicken's erratacross the floor.

CLO SE U P. CH ICKEN 'S FEET

H e knocks over the first in a line of dom inoes that starts a chain reaction.




H e looks shocked as he falls and hears the dom inoes falls.

IN T. TO Y SH O P

(D om inoes knocking against each other)

e chicken gets up and continues running to the bottom of the display then clim bs to the fi

U pon reaching the shelf the chicken steps onto a track and knocks a rem ote control.

(Sound of electric toy car)

A car knocks the chicken over.

P.O .V . CH ICKEN

Follow s the course of the track up to the next level.


H e has an idea.



IN T. TO Y SH O P

e chicken presses the rem ote until the car returns in front of him .

H e clim bs on the car and reaches over with his foot to the rem ote.

CLO SE U P. CH ICKEN 'S FEET

H is foot presses dow n the button on the rem ote.

IN T. TO Y SH O P

e car shoots up the track w ith the chicken holding on. Cam era follow s behind the car.

O nce on the next shelf the chicken jum ps off.


H e looks around the shelf. ere are boxes of toys but nothing that appears helpful to reachiH anging on a hook above him he sees a toy m onkey.



IN T. TO Y SH O P

e chicken jum ps and grabs the m onkey's feet and starts to clim b.

A s he begins to clim b, the spring above the m onkey's head loosens.


H e looks shocked as he begins to m ove back dow n.

Suddenly, he eyes go w ide as the toy springs back up.

IN T. TO Y SH O P

e m onkey springs up and dow n repeatedly w hile the chicken tries to hold on.

Finally, the chicken m anages to propel him self off as the toy springs high.


H e cries out as he hurtles onto the next shelf.



H e looks back dow n the shelf, relieved to have m ade it.

H e turns and sees the house.

Cam era pans the front of the house, stopping on the door.

IN T. TO Y SH O P

e chicken w alks up to the door. H e takes a deep breath and knocks.

e door opens.

P.O .V . CH ICKEN

e fashion doll stands in the door way.

Cam era pans the length of the chicken, focusing on the splodges of play dough.



e chicken sm iles and w aves at the doll.

Suddenly the doll slam s the door in the chickens face.


H e is distraught.

IN T. TO Y SH O P

e chicken stum bles back and falls off the shelf.


H e stares at the house as he falls to the ground.

e chicken lands w ith a bounce and a squeak.

(Silence)


H e stares longingly at the house, upset.(Bell above the door of the shop chim es as it opens)

H e eyes go w ide and he freezes.

A young girl, Susie, walks into the shop. She walks tow ards the shelf in the m iddle of the roo

She stands on the chicken, flattening him .

(Squawk)

CLO SE U P. SU SIE'S FO O T

She lis her foot. e chicken's body springs back into shape.



CLO SE U P. SUSIE'S FA CE

e chicken is staring up at her.

(Susie giggles)

IN T. TO Y SH O P

Susie bends dow n and picks up the chicken.

She hugs him to her chest and laughs again as he squeaks.

She begins to walk out of the shop.


H e sm iles, overjoyed as Susie takes him out of the shop.

and thinks the chicken is m essy. She doesn't w ant him living in her perfe

turns him aw ay. I chose the fashion doll, as she is his opposite; w here he

rubbery, she is rigid and plastic. I looked into 1960s fashion to help desig

as w ell as looking at vintage dolls, such as Barbie.

I w asn't happy w ith the way the shoulder was behaving aer skinning, so I decided blend shapes to fix it. As blend shapes only work in one axis, I first had to create afixed along a plane. is object was then constrained to the shoulder joint. A s shothe shoulder lis, the tracking object m oves across the plane. O nce this is in placecan be used to turn blend shapes on when the object reaches a point on the plane.



To create the parallel blend shapes, I duplicated the original m esh w hen it w as inposition. By m oving the vertices of the duplicate, I created the desired shape. I repefor each m ovem ent of the shoulder. As I was using parallel blend shapes, I creatnegative shape for each m ovem ent. O nce these blend shapes w ere plugged in, an

applied, the shoulder had a m uch m ore believable shape and m otion.



To correct the opening of the beak, I once again used blends shapes. is tim e I waswith the m ovem ent up and down, so the tracking plane didn't need to be as large.shoulder however, for the beak I used a Front of Chain blend shape.
