MNUFC Tries for a Perfect Year Against the DynamoMinnesota United will try to make it three wins in 2019 against the Houston Dynamo as it returns to BBVA Stadium for a midweek match-up. The Loons won the league meeting at home and came back to knock the Dynamo out of the Open Cup on the road already this season. Houston has had a lackluster second half of the year, with just one win it its last 11 games as it tumbles out of the playoff picture. The Loons are flying high after knocking off league-leaders LAFC two weeks ago, and would love a solid road result to kick off a double-game week. The game wraps up four-straight competitive games on the road for MNUFC, as it begins to make the final push for its first-ever MLS Cup Playoff appearance.
Loons Draw Los Tuzos 2-2 in FriendlyMinnesota United played its third international friendly of the year at Allianz Field, hosting CF Pachuca of Mexico’s Liga MX. The Loons had to get creative with their lineup to manage resting players and fill in gaps for those who have been called up for international duty. A back-and-forth first half concluded with an incredible free kick goal from Wilfried Moimbé-Tahrat to get the Loons in front. Pachuca rallied to score two quick goals and take over the lead in the second half. Abu Danladi would tie the game up again on a breakaway after Thomas Chacón made a crucial tackle at the back. A late red card left Pachuca with 10 men, but the game would end at two goals each.

2015 MINNESOTA UNITED FC GOAL MAPMINNESOTA UNITED NEWS AND NOTES
Mason Toye Named Week 26 Player of the WeekMinnesota United FC forward Mason Toye was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 26 of the 2019 MLS season.
Toye scored two goals to help Minnesota to a 2-0 victory over the league-leading Los Angeles Football Club at Banc of California Stadium on Sunday. With the brace, Toye now has six goals this season, tied for second most on the team, along with three assists over 11 matches played. Minnesota sits in third place in the Western Conference with 45 points (13-9-6 overall record) and has a 5-0-1 record this regular season in matches where Toye scores a goal or registers an assist.
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Toye finished from a challenging angle on the right side of the box with a left-footed strike to the upper left corner.
Days after receiving his first call to represent the United States Men’s U23 National Team, Toye showcased his tremendous skill once again, completing his brace to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute. Toye collected the ball outside the box and sent a stunning long-distance left-footed strike to the upper right corner, perfectly out of reach of the LAFC goalkeeper.
Mannone and Toye Named to MLS Week 26 Team of the WeekThe Loons catapulted up to third in the Western Conference with a road victory against LAFC on Sunday night. Mason Toye and Vito Mannone were crucial in the taking of all three points and earned spots in the MLS Team of the Week for Week 26.
Toye propelled the Loons to a first half lead with a pair of goals in the first thirty minutes to shock LAFC. His two left-footed strikes were his only shots of the game and he made them count, curling past the goalkeeper with expert precision. The 20-year-old now has six goals and three assists in just under 500 minutes played this MLS season. This is his second MLS team of the Week appearance.
Mannone makes his fourth feature on the Team of the Week, and reached double-digit shutouts this year with Sunday’s result. He kept the Loons in the game as they held off an onslaught of LAFC attacks, making an MLS career high of eight saves.
Adrian Heath on Heading Into Houston Given How Tight the West Is“It’s the next game. We were really pleased with the players after the game in LA but as soon as we got back in the dressing room, from a coaching staff, we’re talking to the players about let’s get our minds fixed now purely and simply on Houston and prepare ourselves because every game is going to be crucial between now and the end of the season.”
Heath on the Western Conference Playoff Race“It’s good to be involved. I’d rather be above the red line than below it, I know that much. The one thing that we know is, it’s game to game. You go from seventh to second. We were looking at the Seattle game, thinking that Seattle were going to draw and if we win we go second and if they win, we go third and then you drop down three spots – it’s like snakes and ladders at the moment. It’s tight. It’s going to be like that all the way until the end of the season and as I think I said a few months ago, I think it will go until the last day of the season depending on who finishes second and who finishes seventh. Every game is crucial.”
Brent Kallman on Taking Three Points at LAFC“It’s huge. I think with how close everything is in the Western Conference, you’re not really reaching too far to say that every game coming up is the biggest game. It’s just kind of the nature of the beast and the situation that the Western Conference is in right now. That was a huge win. To know that we can go and grit one out on the road is going to be really important down the stretch because we have a couple more tough road games left but also if we do get into the playoffs and we do have to play somewhere on the road, it could be somewhere like that where we are having to defend a lot and don’t have the ball. I think it was a good test and good for us to prove to ourselves that we can win a game like that.”
Kallman on Preventing a Letdown in Houston After a Big Win at LAFC“I think we just have to take what the plan is and we’ve got to execute. That’s what we did the other day. We really executed. We had a good feel for how the game was probably going to go and we executed what we were trying to do. We were able to get those goals on the break, which were great goals, by the way and buckle down and defend. The plan won’t be the same for this game. It’ll be different, every team is different. They [Houston] present different problems. We just have to make sure we are doing our jobs and we are paying attention to details and if we execute the plan we should be fine.”
MNUFC Trades GAM for GAM with Chicago FireMinnesota United announced that the club has acquired $50,000 in 2020 General Allocation Money (GAM) and a fourth-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft for $50,000 in 2019 GAM.
MNUFC and C.F. Pachuca Play to 2-2- Draw in International FriendlyIn its third and final international friendly of 2019, Minnesota United welcomed Liga MX side C.F. Pachuca to the confines of Allianz Field. In what was a hotly contested game, the two sides played to a 2-2 draw as the Loons scored once on each side of the half. The Minnesota United faithful were treated to a sensational free kick from Wilfried Moimbé-Tahrat, a composed finished from second-half substitute Abu Danladi and a full 90 minutes from young Designated Player Thomas Chacon.
“I thought there was a lot of good performances,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “Nobody was outstanding, but everyone did the job that I was asking of them. Thought the two centerbacks did well against good movement. Great goal from Wilf [Moimbé-Tahrat], first one. And then Abu [Danladi]’s took it well. Sometimes when you have that much time you overthink it, which he didn’t. Took his time and put it in the bottom corner. As I say, it’s been a good evening’s work. Great turnout. I’d like to thank the fans for them turning out tonight.”

Minnesota United FC plays in North America’s top professional soccer league, Major League Soccer (MLS). The league features 24 teams from across the United States and Canada.
After a successful bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 1994, the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) founded MLS to bring a top-level soccer league back to the country for the first time since 1984, when the original NASL folded. The league was set to begin play in 1996 with 10 teams: Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew (SC), D.C. United, Dallas Burn (FC Dallas), Kansas City Wiz (Sporting Kansas City), Los Angeles Galaxy, New England Revolution, NY/NJ MetroStars (New York Red Bulls), San Jose Clash (Earthquakes) and Tampa Bay Mutiny.
The league’s first game was played on April 6, 1996 as the San Jose Clash played D.C. United in front of 31,000 fans at Spartan Stadium. The league drew large crowds in its opening season, pulling star power from around North America and building on the excitement of the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
As MLS has continued to grow, clubs have begun moving out of shared American football venues and into soccer-specific stadium, led by Columbus Crew (SC), who moved into the soccer-specific MAPFRE Stadium in 1999. Currently, 20 teams play in soccer-specific venues.
The league is split into the Eastern and Western Conferences. Each team plays 34 games during the season. Teams play all conference opponents twice, once at home and once on the road, and each team in the other conference once, with an even balance of home and away games. The top seven teams in each conference at the end of the year qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Starting in 2019, the league has adopted a new single-elimination format for the entirety of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The top seven teams in each conference qualify for postseason, with the regular-season conference champions receiving a first-round bye. The second through seventh seeds will play the opening round games, with the highest seed hosting games throughout the tournament. The winners will move on to join the one-seed teams in the conference semifinals. The winner of each conference championship will move on the the MLS Cup Final. The team with the best regular season record will host the final.
