Jordan jails MuslimBrotherhood leader

A JORDANIAN securitycourt has sentenced aMuslim Brotherhoodleader to 18 months inprison for criticising theUnited Arab Emirates(UAE) on social media.

The court found ZakiBani Rushaid guilty ofsouring ties with a for-eign country, the Reutersand Turkey's semi-offi-cial Anatolia news agen-cies reported.

According toAnatolia, the court saidthat an original three-year jail sentence againstRushaid was reduced to18 months. Rushaid's

lawyer, Saleh al-Armouti,had told Anatolia in a pastinterview that his client'strial was "politicallydriven".

Rushaid, the deputyhead of the Muslim Broth-erhood in Jordan, hadcriticised the UAE for des-ignating the movement asa terrorist group. He wasarrested in November afterwriting that the UAE's rul-ers lacked popular legiti-macy and served Israeli in-terests by playing a leadingrole in a crackdown on po-litical Islam.

Jordan's MuslimBrotherhood, the country's

biggest opposition party, has operated legally fordecades and has sub-stantial grassroots sup-port. It has ideologicalties with the MuslimBrotherhood in Egypt, which Egyptian authori-ties banned in December2013, but the two groupsare not directly affiliated.

Human rights activ-ists had criticisedRushaid's arrest, sayingthe authorities wereeroding freedom of ex-pression and putting dis-sidents on trial in courtsthey described as uncon-stitutional. (Al Jazeera)

At a news conferencelate Saturday night, po-lice asked residents to re-spect road blocks set uparound the crime scenes, but said there is no cur-few or lockdown in thecity.

Officials also saidthat residents shouldcontinue about theirregular routine as there isa "massive presence ofpolice in Copenhagen."

Police initially saidthey were looking for twoshooters in the attack atthe cafe, but after inter-views with witnesses theysaid they believed therewas only one. They re-leased a security photo ofthe suspect, showing aman in a dark coat, withwhat appeared to be areddish hat and scarf cov-ering much of his face.

The shooting hap-pened about 4 p.m. Satur-day at an event titled "Art,Blasphemy and Freedomof Expression," organizedby Swedish artist LarsVilks, who has faced sev-eral threats after carica-

turing the ProphetMuhammad.

"I'm not sure howmany shots but I'd sayabout 20 or 30 shots," saysDennis Myhoff-Brink,who witnessed the attack."And, people panicked ofcourse and ran to thedoors. Other people werehiding behind tables theyhad turned over."

Vilks, 68, who was notinjured in the shooting, said he believed he wasthe intended target."What other motive couldthere be? It's possible itwas inspired by CharlieHebdo," he told The Asso-ciated Press.

The shooting hap-pened a month after gun-men opened fire on theCharlie Hebdo satiricalmagazine in Paris, killing12 people.

The windows of thecafe were riddled withdozens of bullet holes, re-ported Danish newschannel TV2. The condi-tions of the three officersinjured were not releasedby police, according tothe AP. The 40-year-oldvictim was not identified. While no one has claimedresponsibility for theshooting, one of the orga-nizers, Helle Merete Brix, told the AP he felt Vilkswas targeted.

kalalakihan, mula 50 edad pataas.

Huwag mangam-ba.

Magpa-check sa isang espesyalista sa puso paramakasiguro. See a doctor.
