TRADS 20 utilises a furnace that allows small quantities ofammunition to be destroyed and then emptied into a bin forfurther processing such as Free from Explosives Inspection. Itcan then be filled again with the next batch of ammunition.Because this system is enclosed it means that the destructionprocess and the emptying is a continual cycle, automatic andcompletely safe for the operators.

EOD Solutions Ltd has recently manufactured the TRADS 20 and 40 for a client to operate in Afghanistan. The TRADS hasproven itself in the most arduous of conditions over a two-yearperiod during which time the system destroyed all types of SAAup to and including 14.5 mm ammunition.

It requires no infrastructure as electrical power and compressedair are built into the system. It can be positioned on site and canbe working within 36 hours requiring only diesel fuel to beginoperations. TRADS 20 is the ideal system for disposing ofdisbursed stockpiled SAA at an affordable cost.

In the new global economy many Armed Forces are downsizingto reflect the budgetary constraints of their respective countries. This brings with it surplus items which, because of the reductionin the number of personnel, are put into storage until a suitablemethod of disposal is found. High on the priority list isammunition of all types and nature. Small Arms Ammunition(SAA) accounts for a large percentage of any militaryorganisation’s arsenal. It also contributes significantly to thestockpile of surplus, obsolete and shelf life expired ammunition.

EOD Solutions Ltd in conjunction with CALDO engineering havedeveloped the Transportable Ammunition Destruction System(TRADS) to destroy SAA in an environmentally responsiblemanner. There are two systems available, the TRADS 40 and theTRADS 20, both of which employ ceramic filtration backed upwith a catalytic filter to ensure complete cleaning of the gases.Recent improvements have allowed the system to clean thegases even more efficiently to comply with EC EmissionsDirective 2007 and the USA Environment Protection Agencyguidelines - one of the most stringent in the world.

Both systems are constructed in ISO 20 foot container frames to allow sea and air freight delivery and vehicletransportation. The frames also allow for ease of maintenanceand observation during ammunition processing. The TRADS 20system shown here is designed to undertake medium andsmall-scale destruction of SAA where the ammunition isdispersed in different locations.

TRADS 20 will destroy a minimum of one and a half tonnes ofammunition per day. The system destroys all SAA and theirsecondary effect components except high explosive rounds andis completely enclosed to make it safe for the end user.

RAPIDLY DEPLOYABLE,GROUND-MOUNTEDBARRIER SYSTEMS FORMILITARY PROTECTIONWith headquarters in the US and UK; HESCO Bastion is a leader in the design andmanufacture of rapidly deployable, ground-mounted barrier systems for the purposes ofmilitary protection, homeland security andenvironmental protection, including flooddefense.

HESCO® DefensiveEarth-filled Barriers

HESCO earth-filled MIL® units have been usedaround the world for perimeter protection, border control and temporary accommodationbunkers; protecting critical assets, personnel andequipment since 1991.

The Concertainer® unit is a multi-cellular barriersystem manufactured from welded Zinc-Aluminium coated steel mesh and lined withheavy-duty non-woven polypropylenegeotextile. The Concertainer unit's primaryadvantage over other barrier systems is its abilityto utilise locally available fill material to rapidlyconstruct defensive barriers and otherstructures with minimal manpower andresources.

The unique design, strength and versatilityenable corners to be constructed easily, shapingthe defensive barrier to the surroundinglandscape and when joined and filled, thesystem can be used to create barriers ofexceptional strength and structural integrity.

Available in a variety of different sizes anddelivery systems, the units can be extended andjoined together to provide effective andeconomical protective structures.

DIGITAL JAMMINGAS PART OF MULTI-LEVEL BLAST PROTECTIONunival® group is a Germany based group ofcompanies with headquarter in Bonn,Germany. We are a high-end securitysolutions provider with a product portfolioof synergetic products that allows our clientsto efficiently combine a mulit-level-securityconcept.

We have divided our blast protectiontechnologies in three main productsegments:

• Intelligence – Explosive Detection/ Night Vision/ Thermal Imaging/ GPS Tracking

• Counter Measures – Digital Wideband Jamming Systems

• Physical Security – Automotive, Construction and Personal Security

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) havebecome the signature weapon ofinternational terrorism as they are simple, cheap and deliver a disproportionate effect.IEDs cannot be extrapolated into anythingother than a major threat to political stabilityworldwide. This tactic has been used by theIrish Republican Army in Britain, insurgents in

Iraq and Afghanistan, the Medellin cartel inColombia, Muslim extremists in Europe andnumerous other terrorist and criminalorganizations.

Detection of explosives and classification ofan area or objects has therefore to beconsidered a vital part of strategic operationplanning.

HEDD1® Real-timeExplosive DetectionAlso for Liquid Explosives and Weapons

unival group offers HEDD1 a handheldexplosive detection device which allowsreceiving real-time information about thepresence of explosives and weapons/ammunition in a covert mode. The HEDD1 isthe solution for which many securityoperators have been looking for. It worksinstantly, without the need of a fixedinstallation and can be used by any operatorafter a short training. The mobile system, which entered the market in October 2009,works on a patented Magneto-ElectrostaticDetection (MED) method. Creating an active

magnetic field, the HEDD1 is able to detectall kinds of commercial and militaryexplosives, including PETN, TNT, dynamite, gun powder and also liquid explosives suchas TATP.

Covert explosive search behind barriers forimproved access control scenarios Allowinglong range detection up to 100 meters, theoperator will receive important informationwithout a direct contact to the controlledpersons or object. HEDD1 will find explosivematerial behind any barrier such as steel orother substances, outdoing a body scanner.HEDD1 will even detect so-called body-borne improvised explosive device (BBIEDs),explosives that suicide bombers might ingestor insert into their body cavities. The cost-effective system can be easily added into anyexisting security system, as it workscomplementary and maintenance-freewithout the need of a warm-up-time andwith very short training intervals. Theintegration of HEDD1 into current securitystructures will increase the security levelimmediately without creating additionaldisturbance or delay at access control. Byusing the detector from a wider distance or

introducestrellchem® act – protectivesuit for law enforcement andcbrn terrorism responders28 October 2014, Trelleborg, Sweden - Ansell, aglobal leader in protection solutions, todayannounces the US launch of TRELLCHEM ACT,a new protective solution for law enforcementresponders dealing with consequences ofChemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear(CBRN) terrorism incidents. The garment isintended for use in all CBRN terrorismenvironments, including the ImmediatelyDangerous to Life and Health zone (IDLH) andis certified according the American standardNFPA 1994 Class 2.

Duties of the law enforcement community havebecome much more complex and challengingwith the realization of new kind of threats, asintroduced by the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Today, law enforcement teams on all national levels areexpected to take active roles in the response toterrorism and potential terrorist threats. Thepersonal protective equipment (PPE) used bythese responders consequently needs to beadapted to fulfill the special demands andrequirements set forth by close contact withvarious CBRN substances, while at the same

time not limiting the ability for adequateresponse. To be truly effective, PPE equipmentintended for safekeeping of law enforcementpersonnel must consider and put focus on bothgarment material, as well as garment design andcomfort.

“With TRELLCHEM ACT, Ansell is expanding itsprotective clothing offering in a new andexciting direction” says François le Jeune, SeniorVice President Business Development andTransformational Initiatives at Ansell. “Bycombining our unique knowledge of protectiveclothing solutions with user comfortrequirements, we are helping to protect thesebrave responders in their most challengingmissions.”
