Teaching Guidelines Seminar was once again enlivened the hearts of

the participants. This 2-Day Certificate Seminar conducted last Oct. 26-27,

2013 was successfully held at Daimon 7-15 Tsu Center Palace, Tsu City. This

was the forth batch of TGS since FETJ Mie’s conception. It was attended by

the participants from Suzuka, Yokkaichi, Tsu and Matsusaka cities respectively.

More than that, there were foreign nationals who joined the said seminar like

Malaysian, Japanese, Romanian and Nepalese. The first salvo that struck

the minds and hearts of the participants was the striking lectures of the

Resource Speaker, Ms. Sampaguita Salazar, FETJ National President on

Children’s Stages, Language Acquisition and on Multiple Intelligences. The

contents of 8 Multiple Intelligences by Howard Gardner became the eye

opener and made them convinced that all children possess these M.Is. The

traditional way of measuring child intelligence or IQ which was based on

the cognitive level was seemingly obsolete and cannot help other children who

are not akin to this linguistic, logical-mathematical capacities. Gardner’s

theory, as quoted by the Ms. Salazar argued that students will be better

served by a broader vision of education, wherein teachers use different meth-

odologies, exercises and activities to reach all students, not just those who

excel at linguistic and logical intelligence. The succeeding lectures were also

incorporated with songs, games and chants. The vibrant and energetic

National President made them alive and participative.

Towards the end on the second day, the new graduates were visited

by the Tsu City Councilor Takatora Kobayashi and other Mie FETJians who

welcomed them after the Oath Taking.

Mie FETJians Inter-Unit Bonding

The second Mie FETJians bonding

was happily held at Sir Benjamin Buenaven-

tura’s residence. The voracious display of foods

and members boisterous laughters filled the

atmosphere with a feelings of closeness and

being at home with one another. Kathy Hirano’s

adobo and Ben’s B-B-Q smoked the whole pe-

rimeter with the aroma of Filipino Style dishes.

Sir Ben’s Leche Plan was the highlight offering

of all the table preparations. Cheese cake shared

by Madam Rosanna, which was also arranged

with carrots as candles by Teacher Susana was

mockingly blew by Mr. Daniel Padilla Jr. who

was also celebrating his birthday that day.

After dinner,

Mie FETJians encir-

cled the Living area

for a short business

meeting. It was started with a FETJian chants

by Joey Andaya then followed with individual

self introduction,

what batch, and

unit they belonged

and concluded

with any adjective

that would best

describe themselves.

It was also during this time that the

National President Ms. Sampaguita Salazar

stressed the importance of teamwork. She

shared the story of the wild Geese that possess a

very strong teamwork specially flying with a V–

formation. This strength as applied in different

chapters give the leaders rare strength to soar

high together with the members and to be ready

to whatever challenges may lie ahead. Mie

FETJians’ destiny depends on the members

contributions and loyalty to the movement.

management for the seminar

was appreciable. All the con-

tents included during the train-

ing were very useful for

teachers. And above all, the

trainer Madam Sampaguita

awesome. Her way of

training and her lively attitude

made every single minute of

the training all very interesting

and fruitful. Most importantly,

the FETJ deserves due

appreciations for setting an

exclusive example of being

inclusive by including us, who

are non Filipinos in the

seminar. Hope in future. it

brings more foreign teachers

under its umbrella and rather

than just remaining as FETJ

(Filipino English Teachers in

Japan ), it will be FETJ

(FEDERATION OF ENGLISH

TEACHERS IN JAPAN ) Thank

you ! “

“He l lo

sir Daniel, Thank you very

much for inviting me to write

something for your publica-

tion . Thank you for taking

me as worthy of it. My feel-

ing about the Two- Day

Teaching Guidelines Semi-

nar organized by FETJ

(Filipino English Teachers in

Japan) held on 26&27 of

October was really a mile-

stone for aspiring teachers.

It was really a guidelines

for us in real sense. The

“Never be ashamed of the scars that

life has left you with.

A scar means the hurt is over, the wound is closed, you

endured the pain... and God has healed you”.

“I was little upset in the morning of October 26th when my supervisor told me that my work will be cancelled because of the typhoon

which means Y10,000 (yen) will be deducted from my income and if I will attend the TGS, I will have to pay another 10,000 yen. I was struggling in that morning whether I will go or not but after my fam-ily morning prayer, I finally decided to invest my time and money. I realized that spending is different from investing. Participating also in edu-cational seminar and workshop like TGS is worth investing. Not only that, I also decided to invest my extra time to get involve to the vision and mis-sion of FETJ by becoming an active member.”

“The seminar turned my life in a new direc-

tion, with a new purpose. I feel so grateful to

have had the opportunity to learn different

teaching guidelines. thank you with deepest

gratitude. “

"Sir, here’s my quote:

FETJ turned my dream into

reality. Attending the TGS

is a life changing event for

me. Now, we all should

work hand in hand to let the

whole world know that

OFWs will not only excel in

a Blue Collar job but with a

White Collar job as well...

Mabuhay ang FETJ!"
