TODAY’S PROGRAM

Garrett Kneese, Interact District GovernorGarrett Kneese, an 18 year old high

school student was first introduced to Rotary through a scholarship application. When he was notified that he was awarded the scholarship he asked “Where do I pick up my check?” Garrett quickly found that the scholarship was to attend the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp. Upon returning from RYLA, Garret saw the need to get

involved and bring the rotary spirit into his school. Garret explained that Interact encompasses the exact same region as Rotary International. Interact currently has 72 clubs with a cumulative membership exceeding 4,000 members. Interact’s goal is to have 75 clubs before the beginning of the fall school year 2012. Interact acts and operates on the same basis as Rotary. It currently operates as a group on projects such as Books of the World, Habitat for Humanity, and Water Projects (building water wells in needed countries). Trick or Treating for Hunger is a project where Interact goes out to trick or treat for cans of food for those in need. The goal was to collect over 50,000 cans of food. Garret expressed the importance of being a rotary family, and informed Harrisburgers that Interactors can assist with our club events to enhance both attendance and revenue. Garrett ended by asking “Can you imagine going anywhere in the world and not having to worry about where to stay, and how to eat?” Rotary International can provide this. The greatest gift you can give someone is your service. Think about the gift you would give…and consider giving Rotary International. ROTARY MOMENT: Dan Jenkins

Dr. Dan recalls that about five years ago Harrisburgers were privileged to have Rotary International speak to us. He invited Reyna Gonzalez to

meet the speaker, who asked her if she was a Rotarian. Reyna has since been an active member of Harrisburg. “A TOAST TO ROTARY THE WORLD OVER!”Weekly Raffle:A bottle of wine was won by Abel Torres raising a total of $70.00.

Meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
