Nor may most VL software be used in shared server environments* SPLA permits all of these things Pricing - pay only for products used the previous month Non-perpetual licenses - if the number of subscribers decreases the number of licenses can be reduced accordingly No up-front costs no long-term commitments, no server licenses to invest in Ideal for franchises, fluctuating businesses, test/development, product trials, disaster recovery, hybrid licensing, short term solutions * License Mobility through SA and SALs for SA are exceptions to this Service Provider License Agreement (SPLA) Yes. The SPLA Agreement was amended on 1 October 2013 to say: Customers may locate servers (Servers) containing Products on an End Users premises (End User Facility) solely to provide Software Services to the End User, provided that the Servers remain under the day to day management and control of the Customer This gives partners flexibility to offer SPLA licensing for end users that wish to continue using their own servers It also opens up options for hybrid licensing ie. end user already owns Windows Server/CALs via Open License so continue using that and SPLA the Exchange Server SALs Can SPLA be installed on end users own servers? Customers with active SA on certain Server Applications can give these to a SPLA partner to run in a dedicated VM on their shared server platform this is called License Mobility through SA Exchange Server/CALs SQL Server/CALs/Per Core CRM Server/CALs RDS CALs Customers want flexibility with their licenses and to preserve their licensing investments. The ability to deploy server workloads both on-premises and in the cloud is important Office and Windows Server can not be run in a shared server environment even if they are covered with active SA Can end user licenses be installed in a datacentre? Option 1 Open Value Windows Server + Exchange Server + 50 CALs =$27k over 6 years Option 2 SPLA (their own hardware) 2 x Windows Server PL + 50 x Exchange SALs =$14k over 6 years Option 3 Open Value + SPLA Windows Server (customer already has Windows CALs) + 50 x Exchange SALs = $14k Other Options your datacentre or O365 Customer migrating from SBS 2003 (50 users) Product Licensing Product Licensing Models in Volume Licensing Desktop Applications Desktop Operating Systems Developer Tools Online Services Servers Processor/CAL Management Servers Servers Server/CAL Servers Per Core Specialty Servers Desktop Applications Office, Project, Visio licensed Per Device Office Suite may not be separated for use on more than one computer Reassignment rights Downgrade rights Reimaging rights Portable use rights Rights to install on a server ie. Remote Desktop Server Platform Independent If bought with SA: Home Use rights eLearning Roaming Use rights Why use Volume Licensing for Office? 37 Microsoft Office 2013 in Volume Licensing Office Standard Office Professional Plus Word Excel PowerPoint OneNote Outlook Publisher Access InfoPath Lync Enterprise Value Office acquired via VL permits any number of copies to be installed on the licensed device In addition, the single primary user of the licensed device may also use a copy of the software on a single portable device The licensed device may also access the software from a Network Server (ie. Remote Desktop Server) These copies can be the licensed version and/or any prior version (downgrade rights) Office Desktop Operating Systems Windows 8.1 Windows Desktop Licenses OEM or FPP are the only way to purchase a Full Windows desktop operating system licence The Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise Upgrade licenses sold through Volume Agreements are Upgrade licenses only a qualifying base license is required - not licensed to be installed on a naked PC Volume License Upgrades can not be reassigned to new machines, they are tied to the original machine to which they were assigned to SA can be reassigned however to a PC with the latest version of OS Windows 8.1 Enterprise may now be purchased with or without SA Windows 8.1 Enterprise without SA: DirectAccess BranchCache AppLocker Windows 8.1 Enterprise with SA: VDA rights Roaming Use Rights Windows To Go Use Rights MDOP optional extra Windows Desktop Operating Systems Roaming Use Rights: The single primary user of the licensed device may remotely access instances of Windows desktop OS on the customers servers from a qualifying 3 rd party device. A qualifying 3rd party device is a device that is owned and/or controlled by any entity other than the customer or their affiliates. When the primary user is on the customers or their affiliates premises, Roaming Use Rights are not applicable. Remotely access instances of Windows desktop OS on servers: Licensed device for Windows Desktop OS with active Software Assurance Qualifying 3 rd party device, e.g. Home PC or Internet kiosk Licensed device for Windows VDA (Windows Virtual Desktop Access) Remote Access and Roaming Use Rights Servers Processor License + CAL Windows Server 2012 R2 1 x Windows Server Processor License covers 2 physical processors 1 Processor License permits the licensed host to run: Standard up to 2 virtual servers Datacenter unlimited virtual servers Windows Server does not have License Mobility Purchase CALs for all users/devices The only time a CAL is not required is when a user is accessing a server running a web workload External Connector license provides unlimited CALs for external users for a single server (breakeven: 70 x Windows CALs = 1 x Windows EC) External users means users that are not either (i) you or your affiliates employees, or (ii) your or your affiliates onsite contractors or agents. Windows Server 2012 R2 Each device that accesses a Windows Remote Desktop Server must be licensed with: A Windows CAL A Windows RDS CAL A license for any Microsoft application they access Remote Desktop Server can not be licensed concurrently Office is licensed Per Device. The server itself does not need a license but each device accessing it from a Remote Desktop Server must have a License Group policies can be applied so that only those devices requiring that particular Application require a license even though other devices may access the Remote Desktop Server for other reasons or Applications Remote Desktop Services Servers Server & CAL Server & CAL Licensing Model Assign a license to a server which permits you to run one instance of the software (in either physical or virtual) License Mobility within Server Farms (SA needed in most cases) License Mobility through SA (license portability) A CAL is required for each user/device that accesses the server: All server software access requires CALs Exceptions to CALs Up to 2 devices/users to administer the software Some products allow external users to access free ie. Exchange Server Standard, Lync Server and CRM Server There are 2 types of CALs to choose from: Device CALs you can choose to acquire a CAL for each specific device (used by any user) accessing your servers. Most economical and simplest option for organizations with multiple users sharing one device, such as shift workers. User CALs acquire a CAL for every named user accessing your servers (from any device). Best option for organizations with many roaming employees needing access to the corporate network from unknown devices and/or employees who access the network via multiple devices. Only CALs covered with SA can switch from one type to another CALs can access any sever of that same type owned by the customer You can have a mixture of Device and User CALs CALs must be the same edition or higher as the server User vs Device CALs vs You can not eliminate the need for CALs by putting a front end server in front of another server Servers require CALs for users/devices that access them directly or indirectly For instance, 200 customers that login to a web server which retrieves data from a back end SQL Server still require 200 x SQL CALs or SQL Per Core Indirect Access/Multiplexing Standard Server Enterprise Server Advanced features and functionality Enterprise Editions of Servers offer increased scalability giving, for example, support for larger numbers of users and clustering capability Enterprise Server CALs provide access to advanced features and functionality Standard CAL Enterprise CAL Enterprise Server v Enterprise CALs Client Access Licences A CAL allows client computers access to the services of a server An Enterprise CAL allows client computers access to more advanced services of the server It adds to rather than includes the functionality of the Standard CAL Standard CAL Enterprise CAL A Standard CAL allows client computers access to a limited set of fundamental services of the server Client gets the basic functions Standard CAL Client gets the basic functions Client gets more functions BOTH CALs are required to give clients access to all functions Core and Enterprise CAL Suite Volume Licensing only Always sold with SA A convenient way to license desktops for intranet, networking, and collaboration Core CAL: x6 Standard CALs Enterprise CAL Suite: x13 Standard + Enterprise CALs Windows Server CAL Sharepoint Standard CAL Exchange System Center Config Manager CML Lync Standard CAL System Center EndpointProtection Endpoint Suite Lync Enterprise CAL System Center Client Management Suite Exchange Enterprise CAL Windows Active Directory Rights Management Services CAL Forefront Unified Access Gateway Sharepoint Enterprise CAL Users can access, calendar, contacts and tasks via a variety of methods: Exchange Server Editions Standard small/midsize organisations with fewer users/limited scalability requirements Enterprise larger orgs with larger user numbers or for high availability requirements Exchange CAL Editions Standard base CAL permits access to/calendar info Enterprise optional additive CAL provides Unified Messaging capability Enterprise with Services anti-malware and anti-spam via Exchange Online Protection Exchange Server 2013 SharePoint Server Editions Foundation download at no cost (runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 or above) Standard fuller functionality SharePoint CAL Editions Standard base CAL Enterprise optional additive CAL provides Enterprise functionality ie. BI SharePoint Scenarios Intranet Server + CALs Extranet Server + CALs for all internal users Internet Server (no CALs required) SharePoint Server 2013 Lync CAL Editions Standard Base CAL provides IM and Presence Enterprise Audio, Video and Web Conferencing (Optional, Additive) Plus Enterprise Voice and Telephony (Optional, Additive) Users can access Lync Server in various ways: Lync 2013 Included in Office Pro Plus or standalone Lync Basic 2013 no charge, less feature-rich Mobile clients ie. Windows Store app Lync Web App attend a meeting via a browser if you do not have Lync client Lync Server 2013 Servers: Per Core SQL Server Editions via Volume License Standard Core or Server/CAL Business Intelligence Server/CAL Enterprise Core SQL Server 2014 Failover from SQL Server 2014 onward only active servers licensed with SA permit the installation of a passive instance for failover SQL Components ie. Reporting Services if run in the same server as the database no additional licenses are required. If run in separate server(s) all servers must be fully licensed Core Licensing Standard/Enterprise Count the number of cores in the server Multiply by the Core Factor ie. Intel with 2 x 4 core processors requires 8 Core licenses (4 x 2 Core Packs) Intel with 2 x 6 core processors requires 12 Core licenses (6 x 2 Core Packs) AMD with 2 x 6 core processors requires 9 Core licenses (5 x 2 Core Packs) SQL Server SQL Server 2014 Standard SQL Server Standard can be licensed in two ways: Server/CAL - requires a Server license for each server plus a CAL for each device/user accessing the software Per Core - a license is required for each physical or virtual core accessed by an operating system environment running SQL Server. CALs are not required. A minimum of 4 cores per processor must be licensed. The best option for the customer will depend on how many users/devices access the server (or will do in the future), how many SQL Servers are within the organisation and how many cores are in the server Breakeven: 1 x SQL Server + 30 CALs = 2 x SQL Per Core Licenses: 1 x virtual SQL Server assigned 4 x cores and 30 users - best option 2 x SQL 2 Core Packs 2 x physical SQL Servers (with dual quad core CPUs) and 30 x users - best option 2 x SQL Servers + 30 x SQL CALs Servers: Management Servers System Center 2012 R2 License only the endpoints not the management servers themselves Server Management Licenses (MLs) and Client MLs depending on endpoint being managed License Mobility within Server Farms not available Rights to SQL Server Technology included, does not need to be licensed separately If customer purchasing Windows Server and System Center at same time, it is cheaper to purchase the Core Infrastructure Suite (CIS) bundles Two server editions Standard each license allows you to manage 2 OSEs on licensed host Datacenter each license allows you to manage unlimited OSEs on licensed host Both editions include all 8 System Center components System Center 2012 R2 Servers Three Client MLs: Configuration Manager/VM Manager Endpoint Protection Client Management Suite Service, Operations, Data Protection Manager and Orchestrator System Center 2012 R2 Client Devices Developer Tools All MSDN and Visual Studio licenses are licensed Per User Permits developer to run any number of instances of the software on any number of devices for test/development purposes only End Users can do User Acceptance Testing (UAT) free MSDN Premium/Ultimate includes production use Office Pro Plus license Developer Tools Office 365 Open Office 365 Suites BusinessEnterprise Business Business Essentials Business Premium ProPlusE1E3 Target custome r Price$8.25$5$12.5$12$8$20 Seat Cap300 (for each plan)Unlimited 24/7 phone support from Microsoft 1 Critical issuesAll issues Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher 2 2 iPad, Windows RT & smartphone apps Office Online Access Standard services 1TB cloud storage (OneDrive for Business), calendar (Exchange) Online meetings, IM (Lync) Team sites, internal portals (SharePoint) Enterprise social (Yammer) Advanced services Active Directory integration Supports hybrid deployment Office shared computer activation support (RDS) Upcoming services Video content management Compliance Archiving, eDiscovery, mailbox hold Information protection message encryption, RMS, DLP No minimum order 1 x User SL is sufficient to begin new Agreement Customer pays 12 months upfront O365 subscription not coterminous with underlying Open Agreement Retrieve Online Services Activation (OSA) Key from VLSC Activate at Office 365.com/setup365 One a OSA Key has been activated Microsoft will not credit, no exceptions Reseller to ensure they are set up as Partner of Record so that reminders, rebates etc are sent to them E3, E4, O365 Pro Plus (and Midsize Business) can all be installed on Remote Desktop Server.
