In August 2016 the case of 34 men held for over a yearon the island of Yap was resolved. The asylum seek-ers, whose boat had sunk at Yap en route from Nepal

and India, had been cared for by local people but notallowed to leave or to immigrate to Micronesia. Four weredesignated as refugees and the rest repatriated. Theancient city of Nan Madol on Pohnpei, a former ceremo-nial centre, was named a UNESCO World Heritage site.Micronesia experienced its worst drought ever, with littleto no rainfall between the end of 2015 and August 2016.
