I n August 2016 the case of 34 men held for over a year on the island of Yap was resolved. The asylum seek- ers, whose boat had sunk at Yap en route from Nepal and India, had been cared for by local people but not allowed to leave or to immigrate to Micronesia. Four were designated as refugees and the rest repatriated. The ancient city of Nan Madol on Pohnpei, a former ceremo- nial centre, was named a UNESCO World Heritage site.
