Microlight Electro-Acupuncture
Treatment of Leg and Knee Pain with
Microlight Therapy
Darren Starwynn, O.M.D.,
Dipl. Ac., L.Ac.
Causes of Knee Pain
• Aging cartilage in the elderly
• Twisting, straining injuries
• Excess body weight putting stress on lower body joints
• Inflammation due to repressed anger and resentment
• Diet that supports inflammation in the body (too much
animal protein, artificial foods, sugars, acid-form foods)
• Kidney dysfunction (Chinese medicine)
Knee Ligaments
Acutron Microlight system
Q: What is Multi-Modal
Microcurrent?
A: It is an integrated approach to therapy combining use of microcurrent and therapeutic exercise with adjunctive use of color light therapy and/or essential oils.
For best results, these elements of therapy are usually applied simultaneously or in a sequence within the same treatment session.
Microlight Therapy: High-Low Frequencies
Diagrams from books “Wheels of Light” by Roslyn Bruyere & “Let There Be Light” by Darius Dinshah
Microlight Color Selection On Acu-Points for Joint Pain
• Reduce inflammation (RA): Blue orPurple
• Joint disorders, rebuild muscles & tissues, brain balancer, kills micro-organisms: Green
• Bone Builders (Osteo) : Orange orLemon
• Sedative, reduce abscess: Indigo
• Bone builder: Improve blood circulation: Magenta
Microlight Anti-Inflammatory Effects
Research has shown that microcurrent:
• Reduces inflammatory cytokines produced by immune
system action against infection or stressors
• Reduces or prevents prostaglandin-induced
inflammation
• Reduces spasm in blood and lymph vessels
• Improves circulation of blood and lymph
Pain Mastery Sequence Therapy
• Using a series of brief probe and pad techniques, retesting patient’s pain-free range of motion after each step
• Responses are often far better than with TCM or conventional electro-therapy
• Can be performed with non-needle microlight only or combined with acupuncture needle therapies
• Treatment times can be reduced significantly
Mu-Shu Treatment Applications
• Apply through Organs to support treatment of internal medical diseases and neuropathies
• Provide deeper level treatments for pain relief and injury rehab –can improve carry-over of treatment results. Example: treating the Kidney Mu-Shu points for chronic knee pain or the Gall Bladder for hip osteoarthritis
• Apply through PNE centers (chakras) to anchor emotional or Soul healing in conjunction with intuitive counseling
• In most cases apply Mu-Shu technique before doing symptomatic techniques for pain, rehab, facials, etc.
Microcurrent Mu-Shu Technique
Extremities and the Chakras
Chronic difficulties or degeneration in the knees could be
due to imbalances in the Kidneys or Heart
Chakra.
Issues of the extremities in
general may be due to Solar Plexus
Chakra imbalances.
Knee Pain Techniques Sequence
• Root Tx: Mu-Shu
• Circling the Dragon - w/Purple or Blue light
• Great Loops, Reverse Body Image
• Auricular micro-macro: + on knee pain points, - on
corresponding auricular points
• Interferential pads – microcurrents with motion
• Scalp points
Auricular Micro-Macro Technique
Ear elbow
point
Example: Elbow Pain
Interferential Therapy for Knee Injuries
Cross Pad Tx for Leg Pain or Neuropathy
FST Frequencies For Knee Pain Treatment
Tissue Hz:
Bone: 39
Capsular ligaments: 480
Fascia: 142
Ligaments: 100, 35
Muscles: 46, 77
Bursa, tendon sheaths: 195
Cartilage: 157
Fear emotion kidneys: 970/23
Condition Hz:
Scar tissue, adhesions, injury:
13
Scar tissue repair: 58
Acute inflammation: 40
Torn or broken: 124
Trauma: 294
FST Protocol For Knee Pain Treatment
970 / 23 Reduce fear-stress in the kidneys (Root Tx)
40 / 480 Reduce inflammation in the joint capsule
40 / 100, 35 Reduce inflammation in the ligaments
40 / 195 Reduce inflammation in the bursa
13, 58 / 480 Reduce scar blockage in the joint capsule
13, 58 / 100, 35 Reduce scar blockage in the ligaments
13, 58 / 46, 77 Reduce scar blockage in the muscles
35 / 102 Balance energy centers
6.8 / 38 Reset Constitution factors
Also consider: 124 (torn or broken), 157 (cartilage), 39 (Bone), 81,
49 (vitalize)
Using Combination Hz for Knee Sprain
Example
Have one set of pads at 40 Hz (inflammation) and the other at 480 Hz (capsular ligaments), criss-crossing over the knee.
Acutron- Use uA Pads #1, modify frequency on Channel A to 40 Hz and Channel B to
480 Hz, and set modulation to Continuous so it stays fixed
Combining Microcurrent/FST with Knee
Exercises
While your Hz Sequence is running, you can have your patient do a series of knee exercises. The video I will now show you illustrates a good self-care routine for knee pain.
You can do this in clinic while microcurrent is being applied, and also give this to patients to practice at home in between sessions.

Acute Knee Pain –Dr. Tong
Acupuncture Example
11.16 Huo Xi: Knee pain, arthritis (same as
SI 1, can bleed)
Essential Oils for Anti-Inflammatory
Treatment
German Chamomile: contains anti-inflammatory sesqiterpenes
Wintergreen: anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, contains methyl salicylate
Nutmeg and clove oils: inhibits pro-inflammatory prostaglandins
Pine: cortisone-like effects, relieves anxiety
Peppermint: anti-inflammatory, pain reliever
Vetiver: anti-inflammatory, grounding, treats ADD
