PVHRC 30th Anniversary August Hunt Test and 3rd and final Club Hunt Test of the year is in the books which ended the year with a great hunt test. PVHRC members did a great job on set-up day, moving equipment from Saturday’s test to Sunday’s test and picking up Sunday’s test equipment and packing up the trailer and cleaning up. Thank you all.

Two PVHRC members volunteered to become more involved putting on a Regular Hunt Test, Kevin Bernhardt did his first Hunt Chair and Mac Covey did her first Hunt Secretary. Thank you both for taking on these duties.

One of the many highlights of the hunt test was the Hunt Test Social Dinner, Taco/Burrito Bar and 30th Anniversary Cake and raffle. Marybell Bernhardt did a great a job of organizing and preparing the food with great help from her daughters Alexandria and Abigail along with their friends and Kristi Goeringer who also was selling Social dinner tickets and 30th Anniversary hats. Minutes Submitted by Mike Schwan

Meeting was at the Heldts prior to the Picnic/Auction

Board officers and members in attendance: Curt Lacey, President; Kevin Bernhardt, Vice-President; Mike Schwan, Secretary, Kristi Goeringer, Treasurer; Mike Brockman, David Heldt, Dan Feighert - Board Members.

Treasurer report: Given by Kristi - We are currently doing very well financially. We do have upcoming annual lease and insurance expenses.

Discussions:

August hunt test: Curt asked that we all actively

look for a closer location for the fall hunt test.

Club positions for 2017: A nominating committee

was formed (Kevin Bernhardt, Dave Heldt, and

Dan Feighert) to nominate officers and board

members for 2017. All officers need to be

elected. We will also need to have someone

create a professional newsletter each month.

Barbara Newsome has done an outstanding job

for years and will be stepping down. Mike S will

be membership chair to relieve Kristi.

Orange hunting hats: Kristi will look into the cost

for orange hunting hats with our club logo on it.

We may want to have these hats available to sell

at our upland test.

Treasurer bond: The treasurer must be bonded

(our by-laws state this). Mike S will enquire with

insurance carrier the cost of a surety bond.

501 c (3): Mike S is researching the costs and

benefits of obtaining 501 c (3) status. Having

501 c (3) status will allow for the club to receive

tax deductible donations and exempt the club

from paying taxes. Some HRC clubs have it and

Mike will reach out to clubs that do to discuss

benefits/costs.

Club insurance: Mike S discussed policy with

insurance carrier. Lee Ann is also in

conversation with carrier regarding club

inventory, etc. We will continue conversation

with them and report back at next board meeting

to ensure we have adequate coverage.

Trailer inventory: completed 9-20-16 by Dave

and Lee Ann Heldt, Mike Brockman, and Curt

Lacey. Thank you David for cooking Italian

brats.

PVHRC 2017 hunt tests: Mike S volunteered to

chair the spring hunt test. Lee Ann will be hunt

secretary for spring and upland (possibly with

Mac’s help). Mike B will talk to SCHRC to

determine if they plan on having an upland and if

we will alternate years to support each other’s

tests.

PVHRC January Annual Meeting: Curt will

secure Gander Mountain. We will be having

pizza.

volunteered to bring back the trailer by driving out Sunday and picking it up but during the hunt test another option came up which worked out very well.

The Tamarack SWA is a great place to hold a hunt test especially the $10.00 fee to hold it there but the past couple of years it has been hard to find good areas to run tests due to the past floods. With that said, I think it would be PVHRC best interest to try and find a place closer to the Front Range to hold our August hunt test. If anyone knows of a place that PVHRC could run a hunt test that is close to the Front Range, please get in contact with the Board and we can check it out.

Thank you all and have a safe and fun hunting season, Curt

Table details: It is made of two separate tables (2'x8'x6"), each capable of standing alone but ready to be bolted end to end. The painted surface has an additive that gives the surface a non-slip texture. The legs can be folded up into the underside of the table for storage and transport. They are fairly heavy, but can be carried and erected by one person.

For being portable, it is fairly stable. My dog Mojo jumps up onto it without me being around and he sleeps on it.

Rich Carpenter donated all the retrieving aids and are very much like those discussed in the TriTronics "Trained Retrieve" training tapes. There are removable vertical pipes with aircraft cable stretched between for guiding the dog.

We strongly suggest that the users of the table keep it out of the

weather so it will last. It's available on a first come, first use

basis.

[HUGE thank you to Mike Brockman for building this

and making it available to members]

Welcome to the Platte Valley Duck Blind

John Edmonds - I am joining PVHRC for

the second time. I was a member some time ago, and have been

in the dog games for the past 20 years. I have been on a break

for the last few years raising the family and then spending any

spare time hunting mostly. My wife, Robin, and I have two

daughters and three labs—Lulu who is 11 years old and officially

retired this year. She wouldn’t give up chasing ducks or

pheasant. After two bouts with cancer, years of beating herself

up in the fields, and helping to raise our two teenage daughters, I had to be the one to tell it

was time to relax. We have another 6 year old lab and then a new 6 month old pup that

has some big shoes to fill out in the field, with LuLu

being retired. We enjoy getting out to and hunt

anything we can, when we are not chasing our

daughters around Lacrosse tournaments or swim

meets. I look forward to meeting all the new

members and rekindling relationships with

members from the old days.

Dave Casey —Attached is a pic of my 3 year old chocolate lab, Remi,

retrieving her first duck.

I trained and hunted a GSP for 14 years but after moving to Colorado, I decided I would get a lab

since my hunting has moved from upland game to waterfowl. I was looking to join a club to meet

folks with similar interests and thoughts on training techniques. I’m hoping to get into the trials

soon.

Thanks,

Dave
