MESSAGE FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR

ALLAMA IQBAL OPEN UNIVERSITY.

Professor Dr. Z Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum

It is a matter of pleasure and pride for me that the Faculty of Education is

organizing the 5th International Conference on Research and Practices in

Education (ICRPE) at Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad. It is the largest

university of Asia in distance education, which primarily focuses on the

educational needs of masses by providing quality education at their doorsteps

all over the country and by blurring spatial and temporal boundaries. The

Faculty of Education has been organizing conferences which provide a platform to the researchers for

the dissemination of their research initiatives. We at AIOU are committed to provide state of the art

facilities by opening up new portals of academic and professional excellence.

In the twenty first century education has gone through substantial change at various levels and the

parameters of quality in education are among them. The first step in this direction is to identify the

paths for quality enhancement in view of local and global relevance. Moreover ‘Quality education for

all’ is the subject of Sustainable Development Goal 4. The 5th ICRPE is planned to provide the

educational researchers and practitioners an opportunity to predict the future needs by exploring the

current status, and identifying the gaps which may assist in planning according to relevance in

education along with maintaining quality.

I welcome all the international and national delegates, who are coming to share their expertise and

accomplishments in the area of ‘Relevance and quality in Education’, the foreign and local presenters;

and participants from across the country.

I hope your two days stay at AIOU will be productive and pleasant. The dynamic organizing team will

ensure that all your needs are catered for.

ESSAGE FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIR

DEAN FACULTY OF EDUCATION, ALLAMA IQBAL OPEN UNIVERSITY, ISLAMABAD.

Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood

Faculty of Education at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is one of the

vibrant faculties in AIOU. We have been striving here for last many years

to promote research as culture of this faculty. We organize two

conferences every year as regular feature of our faculty. One conference

is on Early Childhood Care and Education and the other is International

Conferences on Research and Practices in Education and Conference.

This year faculty of education is going to organize the fifth International Conferences on Research and

Practices in Education (ICRPE-2020) of this series on 18-19 February 2020. This year the theme of

conference is ‘Relevance and Quality in Education’ with special reference to SDG4. The conference shall

provide a platform for researchers and practitioner to share evidence-based findings, experiences and

results of research studies and practices in various perspectives. The conference deliberations will lead

towards a way forward for policy guidelines and means to address the challenges of institutional

leadership, industry and the local community for enhancing the quality of education at various levels.

This event will provide opportunities to research scholars, faculty members and practitioners in the

field of education to share their work in five different modes of presentations i.e. oral, poster, round

table, project and virtual.

On behalf of my faculty and organizing team of ICRPE -2020 I am looking forward to the delegates from

the various universities, organizations and institutions to participate in this conference and to make it a

mega event through their presence.

Concept note Formal education systems around the world have gone through many transition phases with the

changing industrial and technological ecosystems. Twenty first century has given new dimensions to

education at all levels and the parameters of quality in education have changed overtime. Developing

countries in this digital era have the opportunity to connect with the developed world and move ahead

at a better pace. The first step in this direction is to develop vision and mission as well as to identify the

paths for quality enhancement yet not compromising on local and global relevance. Educational

researchers and practitioners of all forms and levels, need to explore the current status, assess the

future needs, identify the gaps and plan accordingly to ensure relevance and quality in education.

Sustainable Development Goal -04 focuses largely on quality education for all. According to the report

on SDG-4 in 2019:

Despite the considerable progress on education access and participation over the past years, 262

million children and youth aged 6 to 17 were still out of school in 2017, and more than half of children

and adolescents are not meeting minimum proficiency standards in reading and mathematics. Rapid

technological changes present opportunities and challenges, but the learning environment, the

capacities of teachers and the quality of education have not kept pace.

It is to be ensured that we are maintaining sustainable educational systems and strengthening them for

the coming generations.

Faculty of Education at Allama Iqbal Open University in the past has organized four International

Conferences on Research and Practices in Education (ICRPE); related to the themes of social impact of

education. Now at the fifth conference the theme of ‘Relevance and quality in education’ shall be

unpacked and explored in depth at all levels and forms. The conference shall provide a platform for

researchers and practitioner to share evidence based findings and results of various interventions. The

conference shall help in extending proposal of collaborative efforts of policy makers, institutional

leadership, industry and local community, for maintaining relevance and enhancing quality of

education.

Objectives: The major objectives of the conference are to:

1. Bring together the eminent researchers and practitioners to share their work.

2. Highlight the indicators of relevance and quality in education.

3. Explore the way forward for implementing the improvements suggested by the scholars and

practitioners.
