MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Plans are underway for our upcoming summer season. Looks as though everyone will have plenty of options to choose from when the time comes. Our club will be holding a “Show and Shine” on June 18th on our Norridgewock property. We are inviting many different kinds of car clubs and individuals from all over the state to display their hot rods, antique cars, street rods, motorcycles, classic VW’s, cruisers, and antique tractors to raise funds for our pulling arena. Plans are still underway and your input is welcome. A big “THANK YOU” to all the people who have donated to purchase a truss. In the month of January, we had 9 trusses donated. This is narrowing in on our goal of 39. I am excited to meet with Wes Jordan to hear about the plans and see the drawings for the pulling arena and look forward to sharing these with the club. Stay warm and take care, spring is just around the corner! —Pam PRESIDENT Pam Vaillancourt 110 Cross Rd, Anson, ME 04911 (207) 431-2718 • [email protected] VICE PRESIDENT Matthew Hunter 17 Nash Drive, Chelsea, ME 04330 (207) 622-6608 • [email protected] SECRETARY Emily Folsom PO Box 125, Bath, ME 04530 (207) 350-0179 • [email protected] TREASURER Evelyn Twist 14 Ward Brook Rd, Wiscasset, ME 04578 (207) 323-6646 • [email protected] NEWSLETTER EDITOR Jennifer Libby 220 Eames Rd, Winslow, ME 04901 [email protected] WEBMASTER Burl Ewell 48 Serenity Dr, W. The secretary and treasures reports were read and accepted. The meeting started off with a few members, who had reservations about the purchase of the land in Norridgewock, expressing their feelings for how proud they are of how far the club has come. When working together there are endless possibilities we can accomplish as a club. The Summer Fest will be held on June 25th and 26th at the club’s land with a full schedule of fun things going on including tractor pulls, doodlebug pulls, the barrel train, and vendors of all sorts. We hope everyone is able to join us for the weekend. All are welcome. It has been previously mentioned that the MATC host a show and shine to include antiques tractors and cars. Pam had made up an invitation to send out to Maine car clubs asking them to join us on June 18th for the MATC show and shine to be held on the club’s land. The motion to allow Pam to send out the invitations to the car clubs was approved. The proposed rule changes to rules #8 and #9 were voted on. The change to Rule #8 stating “a youth under the age of 18 years old, who has taken the MATC Safety Course and passed on all tractors they operate, can pull the same tractor only once, can pull only once per weight class, and can pull a maximum of 4 times per Tractor Pull Event on a different tractor even if that same tractor has or will be pulled twice by an adult” was approved. The change to Rule #9 reading “no weights may be added or changed after a tractor has entered the pulling ring” also was approved. Matt Hunter proposed allowing Steiner Tractor to become sponsors of the MATC in which they will pay for a sponsored membership and they will send us memorabilia of theirs to give out. They will add our club to their group of 300 tractor clubs that participate with them and they will add our club events to their calendar of events for all to see, among many other opportunities. This motion was approved for Matt Hunter to follow up on after much discussion. Membership Pins for 2016 were discussed and a decision was made to order the pins. The feature tractor will be the club’s raffle tractor; a 1948 John Deere A. These will be ordered shortly and will be available at the club meetings and club events. The amount of truss donations that have been donated is astonishing. The total number of truss donations is now at 35 of the projected 39 trusses needed for the pulling arena. This is really exciting! I hope to see you all at the next club meeting on March 6th. The February meeting was held at the Mexico town office, hosted by Mike & Debbie Rivard with 38 members present.

The change to Rule #8 stating “a youth under the age of 18 years old, who has taken the MATC Safety Course and passed on all tractors they operate, can pull the same tractor only once, can pull only once per weight class, and can pull a maximum of 4 times per Tractor Pull Event on a different tractor

even if that same tractor has or will be pulled twice by an adult” was approved.

HAY/WAGON RIDE SAFETY On January 8th, four club members met with the State Fire Marshall

and others in Augusta to discuss Hay/Wagon Rides and the safety issues surrounding them. Bill Clark, Bob Clark, Dale Fairbanks and Pam Vaillancourt from MATC, Maine Campground Owners Association Representatives, State Police, Maine Association of Agriculture Fairs Representative and others gathered to see if

regulations should be put into effect. After a lengthy discussion, the consensus of all those gathered was to put forth a list of guidelines

on the state’s website as a way to inform people of safety when using hay/wagon rides as regulating such activities would be near

impossible. This was a very informative meeting and we feel privileged that our club was asked to participate.

AGRICULTURAL TRADE SHOW The Agricultural Trade Show in Augusta on January 12th, 13th,

and 14th was a success again this year for our club. Many, many people stopped by to join our club, renew their memberships

and/or buy raffle tickets. Some stopped just to share their memories with tractors, which is always fun to hear about.

Thank you to our members who volunteered their time to help man the booth; Bill Clark, Bob Clark, John Hilton, Dale and Judy Fairbanks, Matt Hunter, Skip Woodworth and Eunice

Michard, Emily Folsom, Evelyn Twist, Pam Vaillancourt, and Terry and Harriet Spencer. We secured one truss donation as

well, thank you Windy Hill Restoration, Ron Winship.

Sending out a “Get Well” wish to Charles Bagley up in Harmony. Hope you’re feeling better soon Charles!

The vote on the proposed rule changes passed and go into effect immediately. The new rules are here:

RULE #8: Tractors will be weighed with the operator that is to pull that tractor. If the tractor is to be pulled again with another operator, it must be weighed again. LIMIT – any tractor can pull

“only” twice during an event, excluding the Open Class. The Pulling Committee may change this rule at an event if too few tractors are

available for a full event. See Number 18 below. A youth under the age of 18 years old, who has taken the MATC Safety Course and passed on all tractors they operate, can pull the same tractor only

once, can pull only once per weight class, and can pull a maximum of 4 times per Tractor Pull Event on a different tractor even if that

same tractor has or will be pulled twice by an adult.

RULE #9: Tractors may be weighed as many times as necessary to obtain your desired weight class. Remember, that the tractors

pulling before you have priority, especially when pulling has started. No member may load or unload weights on, or near

scales, so as to interfere with the weighing of tractors. No parts may be removed from a tractor other than cast weights to get into a class. It is the discretion of the committee members present to weigh tractors before the pull or just weigh the first three places

at the end of the class. Whoever is unsure of their weight may still weigh their tractor at the beginning of the pull. Tractor and driver

may not exceed 1% over their weight class. No weights may be added or changed after a tractor has entered the pulling ring.
