ready for some real spring and
summer weather. Many of our
Corvettes have been idle too long, so
let us hope that warm weather will

Parade season starts this month with
parades in Sequim, Bremerton and
Poulsbo. After the Sequim parade,
Bill & Shellie Paulbitski have invited
us to a BBQ at their home. Given the
timing of the parade, this gesture is
very much appreciated and a chance
for some great GOCC fellowship.

GOCC made the Corvette Museum
E-News this past month for our
fundraiser for the museum sinkhole
recovery effort. The museum is very
appreciative for all we have done. All
eight Corvettes have now been
recovered with the last ones in very
bad condition. Work now will focus
on stabilizing the sinkhole and
rebuilding the spire display area.
Those of you going on the 20th
anniversary caravan to the museum
will be able to see the repair efforts
and recovered Corvettes in person.

training seminar by the Secretary of
State concerning Charity and
Nonprofit Board Service. GOCC is
classified by the IRS as a 501(c)(7)
nonprofit organization and as a
corporation established in 1972, we
must comply with federal and state
laws. Your elected and appointed
board members have legal
responsibilities to discharge our
duties in a manner that is in the best
interests of the organization. We are
providing a handy guide to all board
members prepared by the Secretary
of State that summarizes
requirements for board service and in
the coming months we will review
our internal processes to ensure we
are in full compliance with the law.

Pacific NW 2014 NCM Corvette Caravan Update A contingent of ten GOCC Corvettes head for Bowling Green Kentucky. We will join approximately 240 additional corvettes from a number of Northwest Corvette Clubs for the 2014 NCM Caravan that will take six days.
Following is the GOCC itinerary:
Day 1: The plan is to meet at Lee Johnson Chevrolet in Kirkland, have breakfast and be on the road at 7:30. We will head to Prosser, WA, and meet the Oregon group then head to Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco, Richland area), with an escort by 3 Rivers Corvette Club. Lunch will be at the Columbia Park. After lunch, we will drive toward our 1st night stay in Worley, ID at the Coeur D’Alene Resort and Casino. A Raffle/Auction will be held with a small reception.
Day 2: We leave Worley at 7:30, and travel to Missoula, for lunch, then onto Bozeman for our Private Dinner where we hook up with the Southern Idaho group. Both groups will arrive in Bozeman at approximately 4pm, staying 3+ hours then leaving for our night stay in Billings, MT. Montana participants will join the Caravan.
Day 3: We leave Billings at 7:30am to our catered lunch, visit a local museum, and then travel onto Cheyenne. The Cheyenne Train Depot Museum will open exclusively for us from 5-8pm. We stay the night in Cheyenne.
Day 4: We leave Cheyenne at 7:30am and travel through Nebraska, A suggested stop would be in Kearny at the Great Platte River Road Archway museum for lunch. This museum is in the top 10 across the country and offers a look at the travels across the plains to the West. We then travel onto Lincoln, NE where we are expected to be greeted by the Local Corvette Club.
Day 5: Between 8-11am, we visit the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln followed by Lunch. After lunch we travel to Columbia, MO where the Mid Missouri Corvette Club is arranging a meet and greet reception.
Day 6: We meet at the Columbia Mall at 7:30am and depart for Bowling Green, KY. We will regroup likely in Evansville, Indiana and have a Kentucky State Police escort into the NCM, with arrival at 4:30pm. The GOCC group will enjoy dinner together in Bowling Green. The rest of the trip is up to each individual. There are a few doing the Assembly Plant Tours, and a few doing seminars or self-guided tours in the general vicinities. On the following Friday we will gather together to experience the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
If you have considered participating, it’s not too late but hotel rooms along the route are filling. Three couples who participated in the 2009 NCM Caravan had such a fabulous time they are doing it again.

Corvette of the Month: 2010 ZR1 Brent and Marilyn Hicks fell in love with the Northwest in the early 80’s, but it wasn’t until late June 2013, that they moved from Rancho Cucamonga, CA to the Lakeland Village Community and now live on Lake Anderson in Allyn, WA. As Senior Partner in his CPA firm, Hicks, Williams, Crawford & Lynch LLP, Brent travels frequently from home to Ontario, CA for business at his main office located there and also flies to see clients in various states. Marilyn is an accountant and is now retired, over the years, from executive positions in 3 different companies.
As a kid, Brent’s Mom and Dad enjoyed taking the family to the race track, creating in Brent, a major love of all things “Racing”. However, it was a client and friend that took Brent for a ride in 2002 in his 2003 Z06 that started the “love of Corvettes” for Brent. He was inspired to purchase a 2003 Anniversary Edition Convertible for Marilyn (on April Fool’s Day), before taking the Electron Blue Z06 on the 2003 “50th Anniversary” Corvette Caravan. The Caravan left Southern California from the California Speedway, with 189 Corvettes, driving to the National Corvette Museum with some fellow members of the Pomona Valley Corvette Association club. After owning 3 more Corvettes, including a 1992 ZR-1 (that Brent tracked), they drove their 2007 Silver Z06, and Brent was a “Commander” for the Southern California group, on the 2009 Corvette Caravan to the NCM.
Brent and Marilyn met in High School and had been married for almost 40 years, when Marilyn pushed for a new 2010 Jet Stream Blue ZR-1 which they got on their 40th Anniversary, May 29, 2010. If you remember early press photos of the ZR1, the car was Nicknamed the “Blue Devil” by the media and sports a 376ci 638hp LS9 engine with a Eaton TVS R2300 roots 4-lobe supercharger. GM introduced the 200+ mph supercar ZR1 in 2009 and with 638hp it was the most powerful automobile ever sold by GM at that time. As part of the ZR1 package, Brent, with two friends, took advantage of the Spring Mountain High-Performance Driving School.
The Hicks feel very fortunate to have made many lifetime friendships from meeting fellow Corvette owners in Southern California, and after the move to the state of Washington, they joined the Glass Odyssey Corvette Club in 2013. They have enjoyed participating in some Runs with the GOCC and look forward to participating in more!!!
Corvette Bucket List, Part 6 Many of us over the years have come to the conclusion that we should experience some of the good things in life before we kick the bucket. Most likely that is why we own one or more Corvettes. This is the sixth installment in which we list events and venues where we are sure to see Corvettes and their owners in their natural habitat.
2014 Caravan to NCM The 5th National Corvette Caravan will take place the last week of August, 2014. Regional caravans will form and join other caravans as they travel across the United States to gather in Bowling Green, Kentucky for four days of festivities at the National Corvette Museum.
National Corvette Museum Besides the Sinkhole, the National Corvette Museum showcases the Chevrolet Corvette, an American sports car that has been in production since 1953. It is located 37°00′15″N 86°22′30″W in Bowling Green, Kentucky, off Interstate 65's Exit 28. It was constructed in 1994 and opened to the public in September of that year. The museum is located only a quarter mile from the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, where Corvettes have been made since 1981. Public tours of the assembly plant are available. Corvette meet-ups are also held at or near the plant. The museum also sponsors the Corvette Hall of Fame for individuals who have been involved with the Corvette automobile and made significant contributions in their respective fields. Each year, between 2 and 4 persons are inducted into this select group.
NCM Bash April 24-26, 2014 The annual Bash marks the beginning of the NCM on-site event season. Activities include scenic road tours, visiting old favorites and new attractions, Tour over to the new NCM Motorsports Park, special seminars by Corvette Power train and sculpting by Corvette Design, autocross, 2 Car Shows, autograph sessions, access to Customer Assistance Center, The C4/5/6 Corvette Expert, raffle drawing and live benefit auction. Back by request is the Women’s Garage Party presented by women engineers from GM, and a “hang-out zone.” This event will see the return of members of the Corvette Race Team to the NCM, the Ladies’ Oasis and the event banquet returns to the Sloan Convention Center. This year golf again is being offered with members of the Corvette design team. Make sure you are signed onto NCM eNews to get the latest on event registration and updates. On-line registration includes the event dash plaque, lapel pin and a personalized badge & lanyard. Many of the event activities sell out quickly so it’s important to register early next year.
Bowling Green Corvette Plant The Bowling Green Assembly Plant is a General Motors automobile factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It is a specialized plant assembling GM's Y-body sports cars, the Chevrolet Corvette and formerly the Cadillac XLR. The factory was originally an air conditioning plant, but GM purchased it and refurbished it for automobile use. Bowling Green took over Corvette production from GM's St. Louis, Missouri plant as of June 1, 1981. The Bowling Green plant is a popular destination for Corvette owners and enthusiasts. It consistently ranks first among GM plants for product-quality.

My Car: I've Gotta Question Working on and maintaining your Corvette is supposed to be fun, but there are times when you run into a mechanical brick wall that seems almost insurmountable. Sure, you can throw $100 bills at the Corvette mechanic to overcome the obstacle, but that isn't always necessary. As you know, our Club has access to a lot of Corvette driving and maintenance experience. If you have a question about your car, you might consider the following:

Here are some tips for C5 drivers:
You can put your key in the driver's door and turn it
twice towards the front to unlock the passenger door
and a third time to pop the trunk.
The cruise will disengage if you purposely make sharp
side to side turns while cruising at say 60-80 mph.

Battery tip for all:
If you're going to store your Corvette for months at a time,
disconnect the battery. This will reduce the discharge. On the
other hand, you can also charge the battery once every two to
four weeks and leave it hooked up. If you leave your Vette in
the garage for more than three weeks look for regulated trickle
chargers that are designed for this type of application. If you
have the battery stored and disconnected, a charge every
month or two will help keep the self-discharge from draining

Judge Training: Judge training was held at Grey Chevrolet on Saturday April 5th. It was chilly and damp, but we had a great team practicing their judging skills. Get the Best Engine Oil for Your Corvette You have made a big investment in your Corvette, and the beating heart of your car is the engine. You want to take care of it in the best possible way, but there are a tremendous variety of engine oils out there - which should you use? Here are the basic engine oil rules:
Any Corvette built since 1989 needs the specific oil recommended by Chevrolet for your engine. Generally this is 5W-30 synthetic oil, and GM specifically warns against using any other formulation, such as 10W-40 or 20W-50. For the last several years, GM has specified Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic oil, and filled every Corvette with that oil at the factory.
The owner's manual for the 2010 Corvette notes that all oil used in the Corvette must meet GM4718M standard, and be labeled as meeting the standard. See your owner's manual for your recommended type and grade of oil.
Any Corvette built before 1989 can use modern synthetic oils of the same weight as recommended for the car originally, but those engines are designed to be lubricated with oils containing Zinc Dialkyl DithioPhosphate (ZDDP).

Coming Soon to Grey Chevrolet Joel Grey sez that the build date for the next 2014 Stingray Corvette on the lot will be 4/21/14. Grey has ordered an LT3 Arctic White Convertible with an Adrenaline Red leather interior. It comes with a 6 speed Automatic, Z51 Performance package, HUD, Chrome Aluminum wheels, 6.2L LT1 engine, and a black top. It may take a month to get it out here after the build date, so keep on the lookout. It would make a superb parade vehicle for GOCC parades coming up in June and July!
Corvette Racing won its first race
with the new Corvette C7.R on Saturday, April 12, at Long Beach as Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen dominated in their No. 3 Corvette to take the GT Le Mans class of the Patrón Sports Car Showcase. The duo led all but one lap and took the checkered flag by 5.408 secs.
Vettes for Vets May 31, 2014
The Seattle Marque Club and the Tacoma Corvette and Classical Glass Clubs have been invited to join us at the Bucks A & W Port Orchard at 11:30 PM and we will drive together to the Retsil Veterans Home. Decorate the cars as you wish. Anyone not wanting to drive to Retsil can stay at the restaurant to have lunch or socialize awaiting the rest of the club members returning approximately 2:30-3:00 PM. Final Corvette Recovered 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Ends Quest to Save Museum
Corvettes. The last of the "Great 8" Corvettes has been pulled from the depths of the 40 foot wide by 60 foot deep sinkhole that collapsed within the Skydome building of the National Corvette Museum exactly eight weeks ago, marking the end of the first phase of rebuilding.

The ALIVE Shelter is a confidentially located home operated by the YWCA serving abused women and their children since 1978. 24-Hour Hotline: (360) 479-1980. Call to order – Meeting held at CK Fire Station #41. 7:02pm
Roll call – All board members in attendance. Dave Ellingson, Donovan Gregory, Mary K. Welch, Larry Ficca, Michelle

Hidden number – 1083 was found and first choice for raffle table.
Treasurer’s Report – Larry F. Finances are in order. Current balance is available at the Secretary's desk. Pill Drawing $100.00. If you haven’t already paid your club dues, they were due on April 1. Club radio for sale- $150 and car door clings for sale - $25 See Larry Ficca for Details.
V.P. Report – Donovan Gregory is our new VP.

March 22 & 23-Banquet and survivors cruise were a huge success.
Thanks to all who setup and took down the banquet. Thanks to all those who baked the desserts as they were also a huge success and we raised a lot of money for the museum.
Thanks to Paul and Debbie for leading the survivors cruise to the state capitol and to Dirty Dave’s for lunch. It was great!

Believe it or not, the center hub holes in wheels are not all the same. In fact, certain vehicles have significantly smaller hub holes than others. A good example is the late-model Corvette.
