Message from the Chairman July 2014 A few months have elapsed since we last met in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A. to have our meetings and to visit the CECAR7 conference venue. Besides ACECC business, I hope everybody has an enjoyable and relaxing time in Hawaii. On behalf of the Organizing Committee of CECAR7, I would like to ask all the participants to give your feedback, comments, ideas or suggestions to the Organization Committee after your visit to the conference venue. The Organization Committee had a conference call last week and CECAR7 is taking shape under the able leadership of Dr. Udai Singh. If any member society would like to organize or to have a session or a workshop of particular interest to your members, please let the Organization Committee know so that we can try our best to accommodate your needs. The Secretary General is working diligently preparing the ACECC meetings to be held in Tokyo in November 2014. If there are any agenda items you would like to include for discussion, please inform the Secretary General in advance. At the same time, JSCE is working extremely hard organizing the international symposium to celebrate the 100th anniversary of JSCE. I understand there will be an excellent technical program. We are all excited to participate in such an important event in civil engineering history. Message from the ChairmanJuly 2014

A few months have elapsed since we last met in Honolulu,

Hawaii, U.S.A. to have our meetings and to visit the CECAR7

conference venue. Besides ACECC business, I hope everybody

has an enjoyable and relaxing time in Hawaii. On behalf of

the Organizing Committee of CECAR7, I would like to ask all

the participants to give your feedback, comments, ideas or suggestions to the

Organization Committee after your visit to the conference venue. The Organization

Committee had a conference call last week and CECAR7 is taking shape under the

able leadership of Dr. Udai Singh. If any member society would like to organize or

to have a session or a workshop of particular interest to your members, please let

the Organization Committee know so that we can try our best to accommodate your

needs.

The Secretary General is working diligently preparing the ACECC meetings to

be held in Tokyo in November 2014. If there are any agenda items you would like

to include for discussion, please inform the Secretary General in advance. At the

same time, JSCE is working extremely hard organizing the international symposium

to celebrate the 100th anniversary of JSCE. I understand there will be an excellent

technical program. We are all excited to participate in such an important event in

civil engineering history. In the meantime, I am grateful to the Institution of Engineers,

Bangladesh for their acceptance of the responsibility to host our first series of

meetings in 2015.

The Finance Committee under the leadership of Professor Jae-Woo Park,

our Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, is working diligently drafting

guidelines for allowable expenses for ACECC officials representing ACECC to

attend various events. A well-established finance system is extremely important for

the healthy development and sustainability of ACECC. On the other hand, the

participation of ACECC officials in international events, such as WEFO meetings,

Annual Meetings or Conferences of member societies etc., is equally important to the

growth and prosperity of ACECC.

ASCE will have their Global Engineering Conference 2014 – "From Community

Projects to Giga Projects: Civil Engineers having a Global Impact" during October

7-11, 2014 in Panama City, Panama. The registration is open now. This is the first

ASCE Annual Conference outside North America. Both of the last two ASCE annual

conferences outside the United States were held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

2014 also marks the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal – a civil engineering

wonder that every civil engineer should be proud of. If you have not visited the

Panama Canal yet, this is your golden opportunity.

All in all, we are all busy with ACECC business to make civil engineering a

better profession and to benefit mankind. If you have any questions or comments,

please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. If you have any

chance to stop by Hong Kong for business or pleasure, please let me know. In the

meantime, I look forward to meeting all of you again in Tokyo, Japan in November

2014 if not earlier.
