Message from Fr. Michal . . .
The Advent season begins today! Take me to reflect on how you will use the next four weeks to prepare your heart for Christmas. As we bless the Advent wreath, the progressive ligh ng of the candles symbolizes the expecta on and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the an cipa on of His second coming to judge the living and the dead.
Sacred Heart Parish is offering several different opportuni es for prayer during this Advent season. You are invited to join us for Liturgy of the Hours Morning Prayer, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and two separate Bible Studies. Addi onal Masses have also been added. (Complete informa on is included on page two of the bulle n).
Also in Advent, reconcilia on will be offered 30 minutes prior to all Masses and also during Mass. I invite you to take these opportuni es to receive this special sacrament in prepara on for Christmas. If you are unable to come during these mes, please call the parish office at 347.7177 to make an appointment. Sacred Heart School students will be going to reconcilia on during the regular school day and PSR students during their classes.
Plexiglass has been installed around the bap smal font; but due to Covid‐19 restric ons, please do not touch the Holy Water. It is refreshing to hear the sound of water flowing again. If you would like Holy Water for your home, bring a small empty container to the church office.
Thank you! I would like to thank the volunteers who replaced the tape on the pews with green rope and also placed “footstep markers” on the floor. Your help was truly appreciated and the church looks great.
During Advent, we will have a 12 foot “Family Christmas Tree” in the Church Narthex. Each parish and school family is invited to drop off an ornament for the tree. Please submit the ornament in a plas c bag with your name included. The tree will be decorated with the ornaments on December 23. There will be flier next week with addi onal informa on. Thank you to one of our parishioners for the dona on of the tree.

You are invited to join Fr Michal / Fr. Rafal in church for the Liturgy of the Hours Morning Prayer at 7:45am each morning during Advent. Please bring your smartphone to download the IBreviary app.
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed on weekdays at 3:00pm in the church. Everyone is welcome, as this is a great opportunity to pray together with your parish family.
Due to the Immaculate Concep on Mass on Monday, Dec. 7, Adora on will be on Monday, Dec. 14, at 7:00pm, in church.
A Rorate Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, & Dec. 21, at 6:00am, at Sacred Heart Church. This is a Vo ve Mass in honor of the Blessed Mother for the season of Advent. Our Lady shows herself in a special way as our leader through Advent to Christmas. This Mass will start in darkness and only lights of the candle will show us the way‐like Mary is showing us Jesus. The celebra on by candlelight had originally a more prac cal reason. There is a beau ful symbolism associated with the Rorate Mass. Through the snow, cold, and darkness of early morning, the faithful would trudge with lanterns in their hands to the brightly lit Church where the Mass was celebrated. In Advent, we live spiritually between the Annuncia on and the birth of Christ. Mary teaches us the spirit of Advent and inner a tude we should have during Advent. During the nine months of pregnancy, Mary lived a hidden life, in the spirit of silence and intense in macy with Christ she carried in her womb.
The symbolism of the candle is that it is not the bright light of Christmas. The Church and the soul are s ll struggling through the darkness toward the Light. The light of our candles is a symbol of our longing for the coming of our Savior whose light is already dawning. As it will be dark in the church, feel free to bring a lantern with you.

In three evenings, we will explore the history and meaning of the Old Testament stories. Each class will include a short video, printed notes and melines, along with group discussion. Join us for an hour or so on December 2, 9, & 16, at 6:30pm, in the Narthex.

To parishioners and friends of Sacred Heart School: I would like to ask for your considera on in dona ng to Empower Illinois, a scholarship gran ng organiza on related to the Invest in Kids Act. I have volunteered to be Sacred Heart’s advocate for this program. Therefore, I am taking this opportunity to educate and reach out for dona ons to Empower. In August of 2017, the Illinois legislature passed the Invest in Kids Act to help provide families, who meet income requirements and complete an applica on process, with scholarships to a end private/parochial schools. To encourage par cipa on in this program, donors are eligible to receive a 75% state tax credit!! For example, a dona on of $4,000 would reduce your Illinois tax liability by $3,000, resul ng in an “out of pocket” cost of only $1,000! For detailed instruc ons on how to donate, please go to the Empower website (www.empowerillinois.org). On the home page you will see “ENGAGE – DONATE – APPLY – PARTNER”. Click on DONATE. Then go down that page to HELPFUL RESOURCES. Click “How to Donate Step‐By‐Step Guide”. There you will find very helpful detailed instruc ons on how to donate. If you wish to donate and have any ques ons at all, please contact me on my cell phone at 217.663.5482 or by email at [email protected]. If you have already donated, your generous act of love and sharing is truly appreciated! Thank you for your considera on. Sincerely, Julie Roedl, Sacred Heart Parishioner, School Parent, Finance Council Member

The Annual Catholic Services Appeal (ACSA) was the system in which we, Sacred Heart Parish, paid our Diocese for the support and services that they provide to
us. For the 2019‐2020 year, our Parish’s ACSA amount due to our Diocese was $58,951. Just recently, our Diocese has restructured how the parishes will compensate the Diocese for the support and services they provide. This new structure is called “Tithing” and no longer “ACSA”. The amount our Parish is expected to Tithe to our Diocese is now 10% of our annual church income. The amount we are expected to the for 2020‐2021 is $67,350. As parishioners, we can send our Tithing money directly to the Diocese, as opposed to giving it first to Sacred Heart Parish. Dona ons given to Sacred Heart are considered income. If the Tithing money is sent directly to our Diocese, it keeps our Parish’s income lower for the next year’s Tithing assessment. With this in mind, we ask that you prayerfully consider making your Tithing contribu on directly to the Diocese to help us reach our goal with them. Your contribu on directly to our Diocese’s Tithing can be in place of your weekly contribu on to Sacred Heart Parish. Put your check payable to “Diocese Parish Tithe” with “Sacred Heart” in the memo and place it in the collec on basket and we will mail for you. Any ques ons, please call Mark Volk or Billi Jansen at the parish office at 347.7177.
