Create a Graphic Statue in Photoshop

Step 1

Open the image you want to transform into a stone. Keep in mind that you can use this technique

for any image. If you want it to look great and achieve this effect, you should use a portrait withsomeone looking at the camera. Other than that, its up to you.

Cut the person out of the image (I use the en !ool".

#uplicate the layer. It is $est to always do this so that you can come $ack to the original image ifsomething goes wrong. #uplicate $y pressing Ctrl%&.

'et we will desaturate the layer. )o to *d+ustments #esaturate.

'et we are going to seal his eye$alls to achieve the statue effect. -oom into his eyes, and using

the en !ool make a path around his eye$alls. ress Ctrl%nter to make a selection.

'ow well add a gradient over the selected area. !o do so, select the )radient !ool and the

/lack%0hite option. 1se the /rightness2Contrast option (Image *d+ustments

/rightness2Contrast" to alter the color until it matches the color of the rest of the statue. ressCtrl%# to deselect.

'et is to lighten up the darker areas in the image. 3ost important is the hair area. 1se the

#odge !ool for this step and the settings $elow.

'et, start adding some light into the darker areas of the portrait.

'ow we need to add the stone teture. #rag the teture you choose to work with into the

document and use the !ransform !ool to set it so it covers the top section of the portrait, as

shown $elow.

'ow that we have placed the teture, we must create a 4ayer 3ask. 3ake a selection around the

portrait $y Ctrl5Clicking on the portrait thum$nail.

6it *dd 7ector 3ask into the lower part of the layer palette to create a layer mask for the teture.

'et hold *lt, click and hold over the ad+ustment $utton in the layer palette and chose

'ow how a$out adding some more teture to the statue? /ring another teture into the documentand move it on top of the other layers. 0hat Ive done here is to add some $lood stains over the

statue.

the settings to get the $est effect.

0e need to hide the rest of the new teture and leave only the stain over the statue. !o do that,

create a layer mask for this teture and fill it with white.

3ake your foreground $lack, chose the /rush !ool and use a D 6ardness for the $rush. 8tart

$rushing over the teture and leave the 9$lood: over. Eou can add some levels to the teture like

we did in 8tep ;F.
