History

Laboratory Mechanical Services, LLC (LMS) is a specialty service company for laboratory and

research facilities that provides design, construction, and ongoing support for new and existing laboratories. Established in 2004 by Frank Andolino, Steve Henderson, Dan Schiesler and Tom Walterbach, LMS quickly grew to one of the largest laboratory contractors in the Gulf Coast Region. Focused on addressing and meeting the needs of the customer, LMS chose to expand the construction division to include design, HVAC and service departments.

In any laboratory setting the mechanical system is critical to safety and a successful work environment. The laboratory’s atmosphere is a delicate balance between the supply air provided to the laboratory as well as the exhaust system requirements. The addition of the mechanical division has been a key factor in LMS’s ability to provide the customer with a complete package tailored to meet their requirements.

The design department provides space planning, laboratory equipment layout and mechanical

systems design for LMS’s regional and international customers.

Page 10: Members of the ASHRAE community, Wow, we have a …ashraehouston.org/downloads/NYLetters/har_2013.11_issue.pdf · Members of the ASHRAE community, Wow, we have a busy and very

The construction management team has the capability of meeting with the customer and providing the guidance and expertise to fully plan their project. Together with the design department, the construction division takes the ea and produces a functioning reality. LMS has the ability to fast track a project utilizing the design build construction model. Each project, whether it is a turnkey installation or a design build, receives the same level of care and attention to detail.

LMS’s service department is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and carries the most common replacement parts to ensure the least amount of downtime possible. In addition to providing ongoing support and maintenance for the laboratory exhaust and HVAC systems, the service department provides the fume hood air flow validations for over 2,000 fume hoods and is the single source for ASHRAE 110 testing (as installed and as used) in the Gulf Coast Region. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers advances the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world. Membership is open to any person associated with the field

including indoor air quality, building design and operation, and environmental control for food processing and industry.

Membership in ASHRAE allows access to information about state-of-the-art HVAC&R

technology and provides many opportunities to participate in the development of that technology. Participation is available locally, through chapters, and through membership on

Society committees, such as standards projects committees, which are responsible for the development of standards, and technical committees which advise the Society on research

Student Activities

ASHRAE Student Activities Update 11/04/2013

Submitted by Kenneth Shifflett, P.E. / Student Activities Chair

March 19th, 2014 is student night at St. Arnold's Brewery. This year we will be having a career fair as part of the activities as well. Details are still in the works.

The primary goal of ASHRAE student activities this year is to further promote ASHRAE and STEM to K-12, if you have any interest in participating or know of contacts to set up presentations, please let me know.

Engineering Week is February 17-21 and another area to focus efforts to speak to K-12 during that time as well.

The Texas A&M Chapter is doing well and we look forward to another great year supporting them also.

As in years past my ongoing efforts will be to grow student interest in ASHRAE within the local colleges (University of Houston, Rice, LoneStar college, ect..) and increase chapter participation of K-12 activities and involvement in Engineers Week. If anyone has contact information for potential interest or involvement, please email me at [email protected].
