What the judges said:

Westcare Medical Centre has serviced the people of Melton for more than 23 years – fi rst setting up practice in 1989. As mentioned, the judges were most impressed with Westcare’s commitment to its community, the capacity of its facilities, the professionalism of their staff and the immense range of services they can provide patients both directly and through their extensive medical network.

But it’s their vision and focus that sets Westcare Medical apart as a true asset for the City of Melton community.

This vision is demonstrated by their commitment to continuous development – of its facilities, people and practices. Westcare continues to evolve in order to provide the best health care services it can.

Their forward thinking is illustrated by their commitment to training and mentoring Melton’s

The Powercor City of Melton Business Excellence Awards celebrate

the achievements, excellence and innovation of businesses within the

City of Melton.

The importance of jobs growth and business development in a

municipality such as ours cannot be underestimated.

Businesses are an integral part of our community and Melton City

Council is committed to developing a robust and vibrant environment

that nurtures strong business and employment opportunities for our

community. The prestigious Powercor City of Melton Business Excellence

Awards enables us to highlight and reward some of the outstanding

achievements and success stories of businesses within the City.

The awards also provide an opportunity for residents and customers

alike to recognise the contribution that local businesses make to our

local economy.

It’s really important that we get behind local businesses and one

way of doing this is buying local, which not only supports and help

grow these businesses but makes the City of Melton an even more

appealing place to establish or expand a business.

On behalf of Melton City Council, I would like to congratulate

all fi nalists and winners of the 2013

Powercor City of Melton Business

Excellence Awards. All are worthy of the

acknowledgement and should be proud

of the great contribution they make to the

next generation of health care professionals, and in the partnerships they develop with other training facilities. The professionalism of their work in this area is second to none and is illustrated by the fact that many of their students either stay on or return to Westcare after graduation to continue working for and with the Melton community.

It is truly a business of worth and passion that theMelton community can be proud of.

What the judges said:

Platinum Accounting and Taxation is a ‘next generation’ accounting fi rm that puts service fi rst.

Owner, Corinne Cole and her staff work to ensure their professional services take the pain out of what, for many people, can be an angst-laden process.

Platinum’s aim of providing exemplary customer service to Melton’s community is well illustrated by their commitment to professional and responsible business practices, their continued focus on improvement and professional development and their genuine passion for working with their clients and community. These characteristics set Platinum apart and point to a bright future for the fi rm.

THE GAP ON GRAHAM INC Melton Disability Advisory Committee Best Access for All Abilities Award

WINNERSWINNERSWINNERSWINNERSWhat the judges said:

The Gap on Graham is an example of a good idea that grew into something great.

Founders, Bob and Val Turner, wanted to give something wonderful back to the community. What they created, with the support of volunteers and some generous benefactors, is a meeting place for the young people of Melton to come together in a safe and nurturing environment.

Among the many activities available, boys and girls from 12 years up can learn to box, cook, rap, play table tennis or just relax, hang out and enjoy music. Essentially the aim is to promote social inclusiveness and address the needs of disadvantaged families in our community.

What the judges said:

Jayne has worked for Melton Tiles for three years and has become an integral part of the business. She has seen the company expand to open a second outlet in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, and although still young, Jayne realised then that the company’s expansion presented her with unexpected challenges and, equally importantly, outstanding personal opportunities.

She was astute enough to understand that the two outlets needed to capitalise on their commonalities but, more importantly, cater to the signifi cant differences in customer diversity and requirements.

Recognising her valuable managerial and accounting skills, Melton Tiles offered Jayne a Traineeship to study for her Certifi cate IV in Accounting. As a trainee, Jayne brings dedication and confi dence to her work and studies, which she tackles with enthusiasm and maturity.

Jayne is now the Manager of Melton Tiles and juggles her work and study with life as a young wife, diligently hitting her text books at every opportunity. She also has a very strong community spirit and is committed to building her network of local tradespeople which is important for our local economy and growth of the City of Melton.

The 2013 Apprentice of the Year is Jayne Geyle, of Melton Tiles
