He founded Illustrious Company with Vince Clarke in 2001 to exploit the creative and commercial possibilities of their unique three-dimensional sound technology, in collaboration with fine artists, the performing arts and corporate clients around the world. Clients include BP, the British Council, The Science Museum, The Royal Ballet, Amnesty International, the V&A Museum, Mute Records, BBC TV, the Royal Observatorya Greenwich, BAFTA, Museum Of London, Tate Britain. Martyn Ware

DEAR PROSPECTIVE STUDENT,

As Principal of Tileyard Education, I very much enjoy my role helping young people find their way through to a long-term and meaningful career in the ever-changing music industry. My career started over 40 years ago with experimental electronic pop in the early Human League, then onto creation of my production company British Electric Foundation and Heaven 17. My name has appeared as producer on over 60 million records worldwide, and I’ve been lucky enough to work with such diverse and iconic artists as Tina Turner, Terence Trent D’Arby, Erasure, Marc Almond, Mavis Staples, Billy Preston, Chaka Khan, John Lydon, Scritti Politti, Shabba Ranks amongst many others.

In addition, in 2000 I founded a 3D soundscape production company called Illustrious, which has led me into fields of work associated with architecture, sonic branding, world heritage and historical museum installations amongst many other unlikely but exciting areas. From the start, as THL, BEF and H17 I have looked after my own business interests and strategy, and how to relate to many clients in a positive way - and I intend to pass my knowledge on to our future MA students at Tileyard Education.

London is the world centre for the exchange of musical ideas and business - to borrow a song reference “If I

can make it there, I can make it anywhere...”

Whether you’re a performer, songwriter, producer or music entrepreneur,

friendships for life will be made, serious fun will be had, but most importantly, I honestly believe that TYE provides the best opportunity for music business career and knowledge growth currently available at masters level in the UK. Become part of our community, take your passion to a higher level, and be encouraged that you will be giving yourself the best chance to make a lifelong successful career in the music industry.

Please come and join us.

ABOUT US Tileyard is the largest professional music community in Europe and is home to 100+ professional recording studios and more than 250 music and entertainment businesses including Mark Ronson, Lily Allen, The Prodigy, John Newman, Chase and Status, Maverick, Notting Hill Music, Marathon Artists, Sound Advice, Spitfire Audio, Tileyard Music, PLATOON and many more.

Tileyard Education is the latest addition to the group and has launched a post-graduate and professional training facility housing a world-class recording studio, tech lab, production songwriting rooms and a lecture space.

“Studying at Tileyard you’ll be surrounded by dozens of real-world creative music projects and people. The campus is buzzing with more than 1200 professionals so if you want to connect to what’s really happening in the music industry you can’t find a better place!”

Michael Harwood, Partner, Tileyard Music

The Tileyard ethos, in a word, is Community.

Since 2010 a creative community has formed organically at Tileyard through the mindful curation of Nick Keynes, Managing Director, Tileyard Studios. Producers, artists and songwriters formed the first cohort and within a few years, a dozen recording studios had been built and leased. An astonishing achievement on its own given the supposed downturn in the fortunes of the music industry. But the community continued to grow. More studios were built and support businesses started to see the benefit of being close to the talent so labels, publishers, managers, agents, PR and marketing services began to take root.

In this community coffees and conversations turn into partnerships and collaborations which turn into new songs, new recordings, new business and new friendships. People help each other out with equipment, experience, space and contacts. People rope each other into projects wherever possible.

People are Tileyard and Tileyard is Community at work.

As it stands, Tileyard Education will be one of the first clients to move in in 2021.
