POSITION SUMMARY Position: Senior Director of Destination Sales Department: Destination Sales Reports to: SVP Des�na�on Sales & Sports Minneapolis Under the direc�on of the Senior Vice President of Des�na�on Sales, the Senior Director of Des�na�on Sales is responsible for driving conven�ons, mee�ngs and tourism business to Minneapolis through crea�on, implementa�on and oversight of des�na�on sales programs. MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

• Member of the Leadership Team • Direct Supervision of Des�na�on Sales and Tourism Sales • Oversite of Sales department budget • Management of Des�na�on Sales and Tourism Incen�ve Plans • Development, implementa�on and achievement of respec�ve goals for Des�na�on Sales and Tourism Sales • Responsible for the comple�on performance evalua�ons of the Des�na�on Sales and Tourism Sales staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THIS POSITION – DESTINATION SALES

• Collaborates with Senior Vice President of Sales, Senior Vice President of Des�na�on Branding & Strategy and other leadership staff to develop, coordinate and implement sales programs that work to achieve organiza�on’s vision: Minneapolis. Des�na�on of Choice.

• Directs sales effort on a day-to-day basis; ensures that sales staff is strategically progressing; develops and sustains measures of accountability via goals and internal communica�on

• Works with organiza�on’s professional development ini�a�ves to provide training to sales staff on sales techniques in order to find new business and close exis�ng business; assist sales team in areas such as presenta�on and selling skills

• Collaborates with the Director of MCC Sales & Marke�ng and Director of Sports Sales to direct the future sales/marke�ng programs with emphasis on “Need Periods”.

• Works closely with Des�na�on Services staff to ensure orderly transi�on of definite accounts and provide high levels of customer service

• Enthusias�cally spotlights Des�na�on Minneapolis by scheduling and coordina�ng crea�ve site visits and FAM trips

• Leverages knowledge of contacts with and experience in the industry to develop key insights into the sales and marke�ng func�ons of a des�na�on management organiza�on

• Builds posi�ve cross-func�onal team dynamics by leading in ways that foster crea�vity and unity • Passionately advocates the brand, extending the organiza�on’s external messaging by represen�ng Meet

Minneapolis on or membership in industry-related boards and associa�ons; cul�vates and nurtures collabora�ve and posi�ve rela�onships with industry partners

• Proac�vely partners with Market Research for increasingly more effec�ve and relevant data mining that leads to solu�on-driven recommenda�ons.

• Enthusias�cally represents Des�na�on Minneapolis by facilita�ng and par�cipa�ng in industry trade shows, educa�onal seminars and sales calls

• Consistently tracks and reports sales ac�vity and lead conversion and reports informa�on to execu�ve leadership and appropriate external partners

• Under the guidance of the SVP Des�na�on Sales leads the crea�on of the Sales & Marke�ng Plan to include responsibility for researching and fully developing market segments

• Under the guidance of the SVP Des�na�on Sales and as a steward of the organiza�on’s financial assets, develops, administers, monitors and coordinates the fiscal sales budget to include assigned industry events, trips, tours and organiza�on events

• Willingly available to work outside core business hours (8:00 am-5:00 pm), when necessary • Par�cipates in various industry organiza�ons and ac�vi�es to maintain posi�ve rela�onships with partners and

increase awareness of Minneapolis Des�na�on Assets • Work cross-departmentally with Des�na�on Branding & Strategy to implement coordinated sales messaging,

materials and efforts for mee�ng and conven�on sales • Maintains consistently high level of communica�ons with staff and management through regularly scheduled

mee�ngs and data delivery • Manages and con�nually monitors incen�ve program to ensure that program is rewarding most desirable sales

behaviors ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT Handles repeat and/or large citywide accounts as assigned by the SVP of Des�na�on Sales. OTHER Performs other related du�es, as assigned. ESSENTIAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in marke�ng, Business Management, or related field plus five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in hospitality-related industry sales.

• Successful sales / sales management experience in big box hotels, conven�on centers in other comparable ci�es • Proven success in booking major or marquee events • Past Tourism related sales experience is a plus but not required • Proficiency in the use of computers and related equipment, hardware and so�ware applicable to area of

assignment, specifically Excel and CRM so�ware • Valid Driver’s License

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

• Highly proficient in methods and procedures used in the solicitation of conventions, meetings and tourism sales. • Aggressively pursues, assesses and adopts (when advantageous) the latest sales-related technologies, analytics

and media essential for the sales environment of the future (Microsoft Office/MAC, SEO concepts, online data mining tools, social medial, e-marketing, etc.)

• Skilled in organizing work flow and managing multiple projects • Fine-tuned communications skills including listening, persuasive verbal and written communications; able to make

succinct and relevant presentations to stakeholder audiences; ability to market and advocate publicly for Destination Minneapolis

• Establishes and maintains positive rapport with organizations’ staff and stakeholders; strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work comfortably with diverse groups in complex situations and to help others reach compromise where there are differences of opinion
