Information in the manual is crucial to the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment, and will help protect your product and ensure that the equipment per-forms to your satisfaction. Safety instructions

Intended use

This equipment is intended for lifting and transportation of hospital or nursing home residents to and from hygiene rooms under the supervision of trained nursing staff and in accordance with the instructions outlined in Arjo's Operating and Daily Maintenance Instructions. The resident needs to be able to sit in an upright position, normally defined as active or semi-active.All other uses must be avoided.

The equipment must only be used for the purposes stated above.

The useful life of this equipment, unless otherwise stated, is ten (10) years, sub-ject to preventative maintenance being carried out in accordance with the in-structions for care and maintenance.

Always ensure that:

the equipment is used by trained staff.

❏

the lift hygiene chair is moved with care, especially in narrow passages and over uneven surfaces.

❏

the lift hygiene chair is lowered to its ergonomically correct height during transportation.

❏

the direction of driving during transportation is according to the illustration above.

❏

the wheels and brake work freely.

❏

the brake on the lift hygiene chair is activated when transferring a patient to/from a bed, etc.

❏

the brake always is activated when the lift hygiene chair not is in use.

❏

the wheels on the bed are locked when transferring a patient to/from a bed.

❏

the storage of the lift hygiene chair, when not in use, must not exceed a maximum humidity of 80% by 20 °C (68 °F).

General safety instructions for batteries:

Only use the charger unit supplied with the equipment.

Do not recharge the batteries in an enclosed space.

❏

Do not place the batteries near a heat source or fire.

❏

Never short circuit a battery.

❏

Do not store batteries at temperatu-res higher than 60 °C.

❏

Do not crush, puncture, open or oth-erwise mechanically interfere with the batteries.

❏

Should the battery casing crack and cause electrolyte to come into con-tact with skin or clothing, rinse immediately with water. If electro-lyte comes into contact with the eyes, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical attention immediately.

The battery is a sealed rechargeable lead acid battery type.

❏

Contact the appropriate local au-thority for information on how to deal with spent batteries.

The equipment must be used in ac-cordance with these safety instruc-tions. Anyone using the equipment must also have read and understood the instructions in this booklet.If there is anything you are not sure about, contact your Arjo representa-tive.

Modifications made to the equipment without Arjo's express consent will invalidate the supplier's product lia-bility.

Warning!Do not overload the lift hygiene chair!It has a lifting capacity of 160 kg.

Warning!Make sure the patient is sitting straight upright in the middle of the seat.

Warning!When positioning the lift hygiene chair, do not stand in the direction of the movement of the handrest. An unexpected movement of the arms upwards, by the resident, can injure the nurse.See illustration above.

Product description

Central brakes

The brakes are two cylinders, placed under the chassis, manuvered from the control panel or the handset. The brake action is achieved when the cylinders descend and make contact with the floor.

Lift function

The lifting/lowering movement is per-formed by an actuator driven by an electric motor.

Control panel

The panel has four control buttons,marked as follows:

• Arrow pointing upwards, for raising the lift hygiene chair.

• Arrow pointing downwards, for lowering the lift hygiene chair.

• Orange brake symbol, for activating the brake, indicated by flash light.

• Green brake symbol, for releasing the brake.

Handset

The handset is fitted with a hook on the back, making it easy to attach it tovarious parts of the lift hygiene chair.

• Unhook the hand control and hold it in your hand.

• Press the "up arrow" button on the hand control in order to raise the lift hygiene chair.

• Press the "down arrow" button on the hand control in order to lower the lift hygiene chair.

• Press the orange button to activate the brakes. Indicated by a flashing light (a).

• Press the green button to release the brake.

Positioning handle,backrest and handrest

1 Use the positioning handle for adjusting the lift hygiene chair to a bath or bed, for example.

2 The backrest and handrest can be rotated backwards.

3 Use the handles at the end of the handrest and backrest when moving the lift hygiene chair.

Product description

Seat unit

The seat unit is made of a material that feels warm to touch and is gently sprung at those edges that support the resident's legs.

Function break

If, for any reason, the lift hygiene chair does not respond to the control buttons, you can quickly stop lift movement by pressing the button on the battery and unplug the battery/the contact.

Place the battery on the floor/table with the button upwards. Further instructions on page 16.

Battery charger

Attach the battery charger to a suitable wall and connect it to a properly grounded wall socket.

See separate instruction.

Safety belt

Cut the belt to a suitable length for the resident and melt the edge (with a lighter for instance).

1 Attach the belt in the back of the seat.

2 Place the belt around the resident’s waist. Thread the long strap through the buckle and the loop.Tighten the strap and lock.

Warning!The battery charger is designed for use in a dry location and should not be instal-led in bathrooms, etc.

Accessory description

Scale

The scale, which has a clear visual dis-play, is attached to the lift pillar.

• The resident can be weighed when already seated in the lift hygiene chair.

• The resident can be weighed by sit-ting in the lift hygiene chair.

See the seperate scale instructions on page 16-18.

Bedpan and bedpan holder

1 The bedpan holder fits into the back of the lift hygiene chair 's seat unit.

2 Fold up the bedpan holder handle into locked position.

3 The bedpan fits into the holder from the side.

Leg support with leg straps

1 The leg support should be attached to the hand rest with the support res-ting against the flat knob under the seat lip between the resident's legs.

2 Thread the plastic fasteners on the straps onto the bar. The resident's legs should be held at a convenient working height for the care assistant with the aid of the straps; the height can be adjusted using a series of holes to attach the straps to the bar. The angle of the legs can also be varied with the straps.

Tansferring the resident

From bed

Undress the resident while in bed, then dress the individual in a bathrobe, prefe-rably one with buttons up the back.

If possible, approach the resident from the right side for transfer to the bath and from the left side for the shower cabi-net.

1 Drop the bedrail and turn the resi-dent onto their side. Push the back-rest and handrests on the lift hygiene chair back and place the seat over the bed, as close to the resident as possible. See illustration. Lower the seat so that it is pressed firmly against the bed.

2 Apply the brake.

3 Turn the resident onto their back and ensure that they are positioned correctly on the seat. Place the handrest in front of the resident.

4 Help the resident to sit upright, either manually or with the aid of the back part of the bed.

5 Position the backrest behind the resident.

6 Raise the seat.

7 Release the brakes and pull the lift hygiene chair away from the bed while supporting the resident's legs. Lower the lift hygiene chair to a convenient height.

8 The resident should keep their hands on the handrest.

To bed

Perform the "From bed" instructions in reverse order when transferring the resi-dent back to bed.

Warning!To avoid risk of injury, ensure the resident keeps their hands on the hand-rest when raising and lowering the lift hygiene chair, as well as during transportation.

Transferring the resident

From a standing position

1 Push back the handrest on the lift hygiene chair and adjust the height so that the edge of the seat touches the back of the resident's knees.

2 Activate the brake.

3 Help the resident to sit down.

4 Position the handrest in front of the resident so that he/she can hold onto it.

5 Raise the lift hygiene chair to a height which is convenient for moving the resident.

From a sitting to a standing position

1 Lower the lift hygiene chair until the resident's feet are in contact with the floor.

2 Activate the brake.

3 Push back the handrest.

4 Help the resident to stand up.

From wheelchair

For the resident to be able to move from a wheel chair, the individual must be strong enough to move themself side-ways and/or be able to stand up.

1 Apply the wheel brakes on the wheelchair. Rotate the backrest, and the handrest on the lift hygiene chair, out of the way.

2 Lower the lift hygiene chair so that its seat is at the same level as the wheelchair seat or, depending on the construction of the wheelchair, so that it is slightly overlapping.

3 Apply the brakes on the lift hygiene chair.

4 The resident can now move himself/herself from the wheelchair to the lift hygiene chair by placing his/her hands on the lift hygiene chair 's handrest.

To the toilet

The lift hygiene chair can be used regardless of whether the toilet is attached to the wall or to the floor.

Position the lift hygiene chair directly over the toilet bowl. Lower the seat and apply the wheel brakes.

Bathing

First read through the separate instruc-tions for your bathing equipment.

1 Lower the bath to its lowest posi-tion. Position the lift hygiene chair next to the end of the bath.

2 Raise the lift hygiene chair to a posi-tion where it clears the edge of the bath and move the resident over. Help the resident to move his/her legs over the edge of the bath.

3 Raise the bath to a convenient height.

4 Position the lift hygiene chair in the middle of the bath and lower it so that the chair seat is resting on the bottom of the bath.

5 If desired, and the resident is capa-ble, you have the option of rotating the backrest out of the way, allowing the resident to recline against the back of the tub.

6 Bathe the resident.

7 After bathing, let the water run out of the bath and sit the resident up. Position the backrest against the resident's back. Lower the bath to its lowest position.Shower the resident.

8 Dry the resident, as well as the underside of the seat, to prevent water from dripping on to the floor prior to moving the lift hygiene chair away from the bath. Raise the lift hygiene chair and pull it away from the end of the bath. Help the resident to move his/her legs over the edge of the bath.

When moving the resident straight from the bath to the bed, put a bath towel on the bed under the lift hygiene chair's seat to avoid making the bed wet. Dry the resident thoroughly when he/she is lying on the bed.

Showering

First read the separate instructions for your Arjo Prelude showering equip-ment.

1 Position the lift hygiene chair in front of the shower cabinet with the resident's back towards the cabinet.

2 Raise the lift hygiene chair and care-fully push it as far as it will go into the shower cabinet.

3 Adjust the lift hygiene chair to a convenient working height. If desi-red, the handrest can be rotated out of the way for greater accessibilty to the resident.

4 Fit the splash guard.

5 Set the appropriate temperature, and shower and wash the resident from the head downwards.

6 Place a towel around the resident's shoulders when you have finished washing and rinsing the upper body.

7 Remove the splash guard to allow easy access for the resident's legs and feet.

8 Carefully withdraw the lift hygiene chair.

When moving the resident straight from the bath to the bed, put a bath towel on the bed under the lift hygiene chair's seat to avoid making the bed wet. Dry the resident thoroughly when he/she is lying on the bed.

Disinfecting/cleaning instructions

For the best results, only use Arjo Disinfectant/Cleaner.

If you have any questions regarding dis-infecting the equipment, or wish to order cleaning fluid, contact ArjoCustomer Service.

The following procedure should be car-ried out after every bath and at the end of the day.

1 Remove the backrest and any straps and place them in the bottom of the bath. Position the lift hygiene chair over the bath and lower it.

2 Most Arjo baths are equipped with a red spray handle for disinfecting purposes. Read the bathing equip-ment instructions on how to use the disinfection spray. Using the red disinfection spray, squirt disinfec-tion fluid over the lift hygiene chair. If you don't have the red disinfection equipment, you can use an ordinary spray bottle containing disinfection fluid mixed according to instruc-tions on the container instead.

3 Scrub the chair. Make sure you wash and disinfect the underside of the chair too. Use a rag or dispos-able cloth.

4 Allow a minimum of 2 minutes for the cleaning agent to work.

5 Rinse thoroughly with water.

6 Dry each part of the lift hygiene chair with a clean cloth.

!Warning!Always use protective glo-ves and protective glasses when handling concentra-ted cleaning agents. Avoid getting the cleaning agent on your skin or in your eyes. If this does occur, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Seek medi-cal advice if irritation occurs.

Scale (optional), safety instructions

Signs and indicators

Verification

The scale can be verified by any authorized body . The verification is docu-mented by sealing marks under the cover and the authorized body’s verification mark.

The verification is valid until the date, printed on the verification mark of the label.

Re-examination should preferably be done by local authorities.

Intended use

The equipment is intended for weighing hospital- or care facility residents under supervision of trained nursing staff in accordance with the instructions in this manual. All other uses must be avoided.The equipment is intended to be moun-ted on the Alenti lift Hygiene Chair.The equipment must only be used for the purposes stated above, and must be installed and assembled by Arjo-authorized personnel.

The service life of this equipment, unless otherwise stated, is ten (10) years, subject to required preventative maintenance as specified in this manual.

On the data sign you will find the following information:

• standard approval certificate no.

• Article number

• W1=Range scale 1: 2 - 120 kgW1=Range scale 1: 4 - 264.6 lb

• W2= Range scale 2: 4 - 160 kgW2= Range scale 2: 10 - 352.5 lb

Verification signs

After verification the following signs are to be found on the scale:

This scale fulfils the regulations of EN 45501/OIML R76-1.The certification is according to theCouncil Directive 90/384 EEC,Non-automatic Weighing InstrumentDirective.

The equipment must be used in accor-dance with these safety instructions. Anyone using the equipment must also have read and understood the instructions in this booklet.

If there is anything you are not sure about, ask your Arjo representative.

Modifications made to the equipment without Arjo’s expressed consent will invalidate the supplier’s product liability.

Warning!Don’t overload the scale. Remove the load imme-diately, when the Max-symbol is on.

Daily use; scale (optional)

The display is activated for 3 minutes. After that, the procedure has to be restarted. There are two ways to weigh the resident with the Alenti Scale:

The resident will enter the chair

1 Push the button.

2 A display test is performed, all seg-ments are shown for about 1 second.

3 The display shows WAIT and after some seconds, 00. Push the button again to get the net mode.

4 Let the resident get onto the chair.

5 Raise the lift so both the chair and the resident are clear of the floor, bed, etc.

The weight of the resident will be shown on the display.

The resident is already sitting on the chair. The scale is not powered.

1 Push the button.

2 A display test is performed, all seg-ments are shown for about 1 second.

3 If the display shows any figures, push the button again. The display will then show 00 (net mode).

When the resident leaves the chair, the display shows a negative value = the weight of the resident.

Do not touch the chair , pillar or the resident during the procedure, because these are all integral parts of the weighing instrument.

C A U T I O N

Make sure that the lift is in a horizon-tal position, because the display on a verified scale will show "TILT" if the lift isn’t horizontal.

To get the net weight of the resident, place all accessories on the chair before pushing the button.

Before use; scale (optional)

Calibration

For hospitals in Europe a verification from the local authorities is necessary every two years. If you want to verify the scale please contact Arjo Service Department.

Weighing unit

The pre-installation of the Alenti Scale is kg.If you want to change from kg to lb, press the button for about 10 seconds. To return to kg you have to interrupt the power supply; disconnect batteries for a few seconds.

Battery installation/change

When the battery symbol is on, there is one hour of operation left.

Battery changing procedure(see illustration):

• loosen the 3 scews on the cover.

• remove the lid covering the batteries.

• remove batteries from the holder.

• replace the batteries.

To set lb:Press the button for 10 seconds.

Battery charger

InstallationFix the battery charger to a suitable wall and connect it to an earthed wall socket.

Charging of Battery

GeneralThe charger converts mains voltage to low voltage DC. The charger must only be used for rechargeable Arjo batteries.

The charger is ready for use as soon as it is connected to an earthed mains socket. The socket used should be easily accessible.

A green indicator light indicates that the charger is ready for use. There is no on/off switch. Disconnect the plug from the mains supply socket when not in use.

Placing battery in charger• Plug the battery charger into an

earthed AC outlet.

• Place the battery in the charger as shown.

• When the right indicator lamp (orange) goes out, the battery is fully charged.

The battery charger is designed for dry surroundings and may not be installed in bathrooms etc.

Mounting and recharging the battery

Mounting the batteryThe battery is delivered separately.Unpack and install as follows:

1 Grip the top of the battery with one hand and put it in place with the other.

2 Plug in the battery contact.

3 The low level indicator light(yellow) flashes once to indicate when the battery is in place.

4 Release the button.When you hear a click you can be sure that the battery is locked in place.

Recharging intervalsTo prolong battery life, recharge at regular intervals, e.g. every night. If the lift function is used frequently, we recommend that you use the two batteries: one in the lift bath trolley and the other on standby in the battery charger.

Low charge warningThe yellow warning light on the lift pil-lar will start to flash when the battery charge is running low. The battery should then be recharged as soon as possible.

Storage of batteriesThe batteries are fully chargedon delivery.During storage, batteries graduallylose their charge. Keep batteries in cool conditions (but never below 0 °C (32 °F)) and recharge stored batteries every six months.

Always place the battery as shown in the illustration below when not in use.

Changing a battery1 Grip the top of the battery with one

hand and press the button with the other, unplug the battery.

2 Plug the battery charger into an earthed wall socket. Put the battery in the charger.

3 Plug the battery contact into the charger's socket. When the yellow indicator light switches off, the battery is fully charged.

Changing a fuse

1 Dismount the battery.

2 Loosen the two screws, which attach the cover over the Printed Circuit Board (placed above the battery contact).

3 The two fuses F1 F10AL 250 V and F2 T2.5AL 250 V are placed in the lower part of the Printed Circuit Board.

4 Replace the blown fuse.

5 Mount the cover and battery again.

The brakes on the trolley will auto-matically be activated when the battery is plugged in.

In order to use the lift bath trolley without interruption, charge thebattery immediately when the warning light flashes.

The battery can be left in the charger when fully charged without risk of damage.

Maintenance

DailyAll dirt must be remove immediately after usage. Standard cleaning agents and shampoos should be used inrecommended concentrations.

See further disinfecting/cleaning instructions on page 15.

Weekly • Examine the lift bath trolley for

damage.

• Check that all screws and nuts are tightened and that there are no gaps.

• Check that the wheels are rolling and swivelling freely, (the function can be affected by soap, hair, dust and chemicals from floor cleaning).

If the function is disturbed:

1 Disassemble the wheels (see illustration).

NOTE: Don’t loosen the wheels from the chassis!

2 Clean properly.

3 Lubricate carefully movable parts.(Recommended grease to be used: Super Lube Plus can be bought from Arjo, article no 6907499.)

4 Re-assemble the parts.

5 Tighten the screw firmly.

6 Test the function of the wheel.

Do not use phenol, petroleum-based solvents, trichloroethylene or similar cleaning agents as these may damage the plastic material.Steam or ethylene oxide sterilization can not be used either.
