Media A2 film evaluation Q4🎬🎥🎫🎭📀📺

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation

stages?

Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE)

• Photoshop was used to create the film poster for our production. When creating the film poster each member of the group created their own versions and then we created a final one in the end.

• I have the most experience using PSE so I created The final copy, but I have less experience using the apple computer version of PSE meaning making the poster was slightly different, this has been a development of my skills expanding and using other platforms for work.

Autodesk SketchBook• This application is a drawing application that is more for developing drawing

images but allowed me to create a good blurred and smudged effect.• The final poster original background picture and text was developed by me

using this software.• I took an image from the film that is no longer in the final edit by taking a

picture with the camera on my tablet and used this as it could potentially be used further on in the film if it was more than a 5 minute film.

• This application allowed me to edit the image at any location meaning I could spend more time on it.

• When creating the music for our film I used Cubase to record my music onto. Cubase allowed me to record my own ideas that I had written using the piano and even change the voices used, for example I could add in drum voices and strings.

• An issue that came with this was that the final film was still being edited so I would need to keep referencing the film which was on another computer, the previous rough cut that was on YouTube is missing shots from the final edit.

Sony HD1000 camera 🎥

• When filming we used the Sony HD1000 Cameras which was an advancement from the first years small Sony handycam camera. This camera is of a much higher quality and allows much more freedom.

• When using this camera we often used the manual settings to get the exact shot we needed, for example we needed a blurring shot so we used a manual focus to change the shot.

Zoom recorder

• We used this microphone to record the voiceover for the radio trailer

• we only knew the basics of this microphone and soon learned how sensitive it was at picking up sound, this proved an issue with trying to seclude sound to get only our voices and not nearby classrooms and building maintenance.

• The microphone sensitivity could be changed withthe gain button on the side which helped us get the correct sound levels.

Final Cut express

• The raw film files were exported and captured onto final cut where they could be cut/ trimmed, moved and edited to create our final film.

• Editing with Final Cut allowed us to review our filming and create better continuity by doing things such as cutting and cropping videos, creating sound bridges and colour correcting shots.

• as we filmed over the course of several days, the weather changed and the time of day was sometimes different so we needed to ensure the shots looked the same if not as close as possible

Final Cut express

Colour correction helps for continuity.

Layering to create vidio and audio echo effect, (altered opacity settings to do so)

Added titles into the film where we could change fonts to adhere to the genre conventions.

Changing sound levels for continuity and transitions

Blogger

• We used blogger as a collaborative space to collect research and to log the progress of our filming.

• From blogger we could have all the research that we have collected were we can all have access to it, the research then helps us to create our final film, the poster and the radio trailer.

• The statistics from blogger also allows us to keep track on our progress meaning we could ensure we were using our time sufficiently, meeting targets and deadlines.

Extra information

• YouTube - we used youtube to show people the rough cut of our film, from this we gave them a questionnaire where we could perhaps find areas of improvement

• We used a Google survey to allow people to provide their views on our film so we could improve. This was much easier than going out and manually asking people, saving a lot of time.

• Facebook - allowed us to share the survey so more people could answer the questions. We could even share with people across the world if we needed to.

• We used an extra camera phone for high quality location shots. The camera function on our Samsung Galaxy S5 was in High definition so it gave us clear idea of the location to film. (Camera specifications 16 MP, 5312 x 2988 pixels, phase detection autofocus, LED flash)

• For one location shot we used Google maps street view, this allowed us to take the image of the house we were filming in without leaving the classroom.
