Youth culture -Target audience

My magazine was aimed at the youth so I have tried to include themes that are present in their day to day life and images that fit. My magazine was also aimed at electro/rock music fans so I have made that evident in my work.

On the front cover my image is of my model breaking through a barrier of plant life so that she can get to the other side. The image was made to look quite dark and satisfy the rock music influence within my magazine.

The contents page had a large rainbow graffiti back ground to show the bright electro side (the rainbow) alongside the non conformist rock music side (the graffiti)

The audience for my magazine are people aged 15 to 20+ that are interested in electro music. People in this age bracket are usually known as the ‘skins’ or ‘digital’ age. Being on of the people in this age bracket I used my common sense and did some research into the things that influence the decisions we make about purchases and likes and dislikes.

Most young people are part of a social networking group so that is one of the influences in their life. Other media influences include the TV they watch.

Demographics and social groups

The bright colours and unusual style of my magazine are generally seen in the scene and indie kid culture. Though I have used darker images and themes in order to fuse the electro and rock scene together.

Most readers thought my magazine was for electro and indie kids from some of my suggested articles such as “retro or no ?” As these are issues important to the electro and indie kid demo graphic.

How I attracted my audience

Most readers were attracted by my magazines colour and photography. These were factors that were noted in a survey monkey I made before production of the magazine so I tried to include them to help attract a large audience.

Another factor that influenced peoples purchase was the featured artist or artists. So I used a model that was in the same age range as the target audience so they could relate to her.

Codes and conventions of my magazine

On the front page of my magazine I have flouted the important third rule as I did not want to overload my magazine with article info and focus on the feature artist with some info on other featured bands at the bottom.

I created a house style for my magazine by using blacks are reds a lot to tie the magazine together.

I didn’t put a quote from the artist on the front but I did write a short sentence saying something about what the artist is like.
