When the curtain closed on the 2008 commencement at Medaille, Carrie Orr ’08 MSED and three of her fellow classmates printed their resumes, placed some calls and headed to the Big Apple. Without any job offers in Ontario, they decided to pursue teaching careers in NYC. “We decided to start cold-calling schools and faxing over our resumes,” says Orr. With only one set of interviews at a single school in East Harlem, the girls flew to NYC. “We were giving ourselves three days to land a job or return home. On our last day, all four of us were offered a job at PS108,” explains Orr, who became interested in teaching in the city when Dr. Illana Lane, Acting Dean of the School of Education, spoke about her teaching experiences there. This September marks Orr’s second year with PS108. She’s a teacher in a big city with big goals. “I dream of becoming a better teacher,” says Orr. “I want to get involved in organizing students to volunteer in community projects. I think it’s important for children to take ownership of their community at a young age and begin making positive contributions,” she adds. Orr was inspired by Claudia Conway, Program Director for the Masters of Science in Education for Literacy at Medaille. “She [Claudia] is the kind of teacher that you never want to let down. She is luminescent, beaming with her love of books and excitement for teaching and learning,” explains Orr, “She was incredibly busy with all of her responsibilities, yet she chose to take on another, helping Bilal Quershi ’08 MSED and I get started with the Education Graduate Student Society (E.G.S.S.),” she says. E.G.S.S. is a program that helps facilitate student engagement with the education programs and with the teaching profession. In her spare time, Orr can be found in Bryant Park, her favorite NYC attraction. “In the summer there are fashion shows, film festivals, fairs, classes and plays,” says Orr, who adds that in the winter there is an ice skating rink, holiday shopping, and tree lighting ceremony. “I also love the Rockefeller Center, museums, and Broadway. Going to the theater is my absolute favorite luxury in a city that has it all,” adds Orr.

Medaille College celebrated the new location of its Rochester Campus with the Rochester community on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Attendees toured the new campus’ nine classrooms, a 700-square foot library and a flexible multi-purpose room that can provide meeting space for up to 60 people. “When potential students visit, they will be impressed by the facility, our smart classrooms, and our faculty,” said Mike Wallace, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Accelerated Learning Program. “The new campus is well-planned and provides much flexibility.”

Todd Kane ’03 MC is Assistant Director of Admissions and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Medaille College. He has been instrumental in significantly increasing enrollments from high schools in the Rochester and Finger Lakes regions. He also acts as the liaison between the athletic department and the admissions office and is the lead counselor in the undergraduate admissions office for prospective international students. Kane earned a Master of Science degree at Canisius College.
2004LaTarcia Kenner-Daniels ’04 AS, ’07 BA, ’08 MOL is now Manager of Membership Operations at Independent Health. Kenner-Daniels also continues in her position as Supervisor of Women’s Services at Kaleida Health.

College (JCC). He was named to both the all-conference and scholar all-region teams while attending Medaille College. After graduating from Medaille, Bilinski became starting goalkeeper for the Fort Wayne Fever team.

2000Christopher Duncan ’00 LS marked his tenth season as a Game Day Associate with Buffalo Bisons Baseball. Duncan is also a NYSC Teacher Assistant at Summit Educational Resources in Amherst,
NY. There, He assists in the life skills room at Summit’s secondary vocational center.

Anita L. (Hart) Kopra ’01 LS, ’04 CIS, ’06 CCI and Craig J. Kopra ’04 CIS were married on May 9, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Grand Island, outside at the gazebo. The wind was blowing, the bride lost her veil, but the rain held off until guests were inside at the reception. Anita and Craig met at Medaille College while going through the 2+2 program in 1999.

Medaille College is the driving force behind Donate Your Brain for Non-Profit Gain, Western New York’s newest volunteer fair, which will bring 35 non-profit organizations together with college students, retirees, and most importantly, working WNY citizens. Volunteers will offer their intellectual talents – experience in marketing, management, and finance, for example – to groups that make the Buffalo region a better place. After 18 years in the television news industry, Mark Buckley ’84 MC made a career change – a major career change. He turned in his video camera and microphone for a hard hat and tool box when he started Power Play Electrical Contractors, LLC. Buckley attended a trade school to be an electrician when he was in high school. While he enjoyed the work, the plan was to attend Medaille for Media Communications. Here, his career in broadcasting took off. “I got involved in the radio station and started on my internships as soon as I could,” says Buckley, who started as an intern at WEBR Radio and Channel 2 News. Prior to graduation, Buckley was hired as a news writer and associate producer at Channel 2 where he worked his way up. But after 18 years, Buckley packed his bags. “I could see the television news business was changing, and I didn’t like the direction in which it was headed. I started to think about a career move,” says Buckley. “Two things I knew for sure: I wanted to run my own business, and I really liked doing electrical work back in high school. [So], I hooked up with a local electrical contractor who needed help and I went back to school to update my electrical skills,” he continues, now, a licensed Master Electrician. Power Play Electric started with the goal of focusing on customer service and residential work. “Everyone has horror stories about contractors who don’t show up, do shoddy work, and leave a mess. We [Power Play Electrical Contractors] focus on doing quality work the right way. We show up on time, you get the price up front and we promise that you will be happy with the results,” explains Buckley. A total career change at the age of 39 isn’t always easy. “For someone considering a career change, I would suggest they think through all of the variables carefully. I work harder now running my own business than I did working elsewhere,” offers Buckley. “I don’t think I could have started my own business without working at Channel 2 all those years. That place taught me a lot (good and bad) about management, marketing, organization, branding and time management. Of course, it was Medaille that got me there in the first place,” adds Buckley. For another year, the Medaille alumni gathering at a Buffalo Bisons game proved to be one of our most popular activities. Over 50 alumni and their guests gathered at Coca-Cola Field on July 31 to cheer on the Buffalo Bisons during this annual alumni event. Attendees enjoyed a picnic dinner on the patio at Sliders restaurant just prior to the game, where the Bisons lost to Pawtucket, 3-4.

Buckley attended a trade school to be an electrician when he was in high school. While he enjoyed the work, the plan was to attend Medaille for Media Communications. Here, his career in broadcasting took off. “I got involved in the radio station and started on my internships as soon as I could,” says Buckley, who started as an intern at WEBR Radio and Channel 2 News. Prior to graduation, Buckley was hired as a news writer and associate producer at Channel 2 where he worked his way up. But after 18 years, Buckley packed his bags. “I could see the television news business was changing, and I didn’t like the direction in which it was headed. I started to think about a career move,” says Buckley. “Two things I knew for sure: I wanted to run my own business, and I really liked doing electrical work back in high school. [So], I hooked up with a local electrical contractor who needed help and I went back to school to update my electrical skills,” he continues, now, a licensed Master Electrician. Power Play Electric started with the goal of focusing on customer service and residential work. “Everyone has horror stories about contractors who don’t show up, do shoddy work, and leave a mess. We [Power Play Electrical Contractors] focus on doing quality work the right way. A total career change at the age of 39 isn’t always easy. “For someone considering a career change, I would suggest they think through all of the variables carefully. I work harder now running my own business than I did working elsewhere,” offers Buckley. “I don’t think I could have started my own business without working at Channel 2 all those years. That place taught me a lot (good and bad) about management, marketing, organization, branding and time management. Of course, it was Medaille that got me there in the first place,” adds Buckley. Over 50 alumni and their guests gathered at Coca-Cola Field on July 31 to cheer on the Buffalo Bisons during this annual alumni event. Attendees enjoyed a picnic dinner on the patio at Sliders restaurant just prior to the game, where the Bisons lost to Pawtucket, 3-4.

Todd Kane ’03 MC is Assistant Director of Admissions and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Medaille College. He has been instrumental in significantly increasing enrollments from high schools in the Rochester and Finger Lakes regions. He also acts as the liaison between the athletic department and the admissions office and is the lead counselor in the undergraduate admissions office for prospective international students. Kane earned a Master of Science degree at Canisius College.

When the curtain closed on the 2008 commencement at Medaille, Carrie Orr ’08 MSED and three of her fellow classmates printed their resumes, placed some calls and headed to the Big Apple. Without any job offers in Ontario, they decided to pursue teaching careers in NYC. “We decided to start cold-calling schools and faxing over our resumes,” says Orr. With only one set of interviews at a single school in East Harlem, the girls flew to NYC. “We were giving ourselves three days to land a job or return home. On our last day, all four of us were offered a job at PS108,” explains Orr, who became interested in teaching in the city when Dr. Illana Lane, Acting Dean of the School of Education, spoke about her teaching experiences there. This September marks Orr’s second year with PS108. She’s a teacher in a big city with big goals. “I dream of becoming a better teacher,” says Orr. “I want to get involved in organizing students to volunteer in community projects. I think it’s important for children to take ownership of their community at a young age and begin making positive contributions,” she adds. Orr was inspired by Claudia Conway, Program Director for the Masters of Science in Education for Literacy at Medaille. “She [Claudia] is the kind of teacher that you never want to let down. She is luminescent, beaming with her love of books and excitement for teaching and learning,” explains Orr, “She was incredibly busy with all of her responsibilities, yet she chose to take on another, helping Bilal Quershi ’08 MSED and I get started with the Education Graduate Student Society (E.G.S.S.),” she says. E.G.S.S. is a program that helps facilitate student engagement with the education programs and with the teaching profession. In her spare time, Orr can be found in Bryant Park, her favorite NYC attraction. “In the summer there are fashion shows, film festivals, fairs, classes and plays,” says Orr, who adds that in the winter there is an ice skating rink, holiday shopping, and tree lighting ceremony. “I also love the Rockefeller Center, museums, and Broadway. Going to the theater is my absolute favorite luxury in a city that has it all,” adds Orr.

Attendees toured the new campus’ nine classrooms, a 700-square foot library and a flexible multi-purpose room that can provide meeting space for up to 60 people. “When potential students visit, they will be impressed by the facility, our smart classrooms, and our faculty,” said Mike Wallace, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Accelerated Learning Program. “The new campus is well-planned and provides much flexibility.”
