Decision Support Tool (DST) Contents Why develop a DST Stakeholders Information tool Calculation tool

Why develop a DST?

DST will provide information and future estimations regarding rational WM:

- Best practices - Exchange of know-how- Evaluation of rational waste management methods- Composition of practical guidelines for municipalities

Benefits for municipalities

- Reduction of MSW generation- Reduction of total waste amount for final disposal- Reduction of waste management cost - Reduction of CO2 emissions - Environmental friendly municipality

Why develop a DST?

TOOLS– Calculation tool

Estimation of future waste generation Estimation of recycling rates Estimation of waste reduction that is transferred

to landfill

Calculation tool

The tool will provide users an estimation of the future waste generation concerning the selected area (municipality, region) as well as the benefits of the proposed rational ways of waste management.

– Recycling rates– Organic diversion rates– Reduction of waste transferred to landfill

The tool will also calculate the Carbon Footprint for Municipal Waste Management Systems in order to identify the optimal system taking into account their environmental impacts.

Benefit evaluation regarding recycling and home composting
