The new enrollment form is included in this month’s newsletter. The deadline to enroll in an animal science project club is Tuesday, October 31, 2017. The deadline to re-enroll for the 2017-2018 program year is Friday, December 15, 2017. Anyone not enrolled or re-enrolled by this date will be removed from our county mailing list … meaning you will not receive the 4-H Newsletter. Enrollments will be taken throughout the year, but we advise you to do this now rather than later. Please share this information with friends that are not currently enrolled in 4-H so they can be added to our mailing list to receive information about upcoming program opportunities. Over the next school year, TLA delegates will learn about civic responsibility, volunteerism, college & career preparation, media & PR, city & county government, public speaking, manners & etiquette and business & industry. 4-H Volunteers NEEDED … Could it be YOU? Become a 4-H Volunteer today and help create life-changing experiences for youth in Meade County! We are currently seeking 4-H Volunteers to fill the following roles: Sewing Club leader(s), Needlework Club leader(s), Quilting Club leader(s), Horse Club leader(s) and Teen Club leader(s). All volunteers must complete a volunteer application and successfully pass all background checks. Please contact the Extension Office to receive an application and to talk to Deana about volunteering.

LEADER CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES Please contact the 4-H office to receive a copy of the registration form for the certification training listed below. Applicants must complete the volunteer application process and be an approved volunteer prior to registering for state training. 2017 Livestock & Horse Certification Workshops: December 2 at General Butler State Resort Park - Deadline to register: October 20, 2017

The Meade County 4-H Program is in need of a certified horse leader! Anyone attending this training must first be an approved Meade County 4-H Volunteer. All volunteers must be present for the entire workshop to become certified. The doors to the training room will be closed at 8:00 am. Registration forms for volunteers will not be accepted until the county agent verifies that the entire volunteer screening process is complete. Volunteers must be present for the entire workshop to become certified.

4-H Achievement Program DEADLINE to submit application: Friday, November 3, 2017 4-H encourages young people to set and achieve their goals. To that end, the Kentucky 4-H Achievement Program was created to reward ambitious and accomplished young people throughout the state. In the Achievement Program, young people receive recognition and prizes for their accomplishments in 4-H and their community. 4-H’ers can start accumulating points as soon as they start 4-H and

begin earning recognition in the sixth grade. With the start of the new program year, now is the time for 4-H’ers to start thinking about their goals and how the Achievement Program could help. There are county level and state level awards. NOW is the time to start recording your 4-H achievements for the past year, as well as your other school/community achievements so that you are ready to complete the application. Members, grades 4 - 6, can begin NOW creating your 4-H resume for official submission in 7th grade. Members, grades 7 - 12, can submit applications for consideration for county and state level awards. QUESTIONS? Email Deana for additional information or tips on what to include in your application. 4-H Home School Families!! Over the next several months, home school families will have the opportunity to experience 4-H through a day camp setting. Youth do not have to be currently enrolled 4-H members, however, we will encourage you to join! The first of these day camps will be held

October 17th

from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

at the Meade County Extension Office. Our theme for the day is NATURE. November’s theme is Food, Nutrition and Cooking! Also, make sure to check out our Home School tab on our website:

Rabbit Club Hop on down to the first rabbit club meeting of the year! Club leaders Ms. Olivia and Mr. Scott are ready

to get the year started! The first meeting will be held at the Extension office on October 11th at 6:30 pm.

Poultry Club Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the first meeting of the 4-H Poultry Club! Mr. Patrick is gearing up for the meeting that will be held at the Extension office on November 13th at 6:30 pm.

Flaherty School Clubs Ms. Mary is excited about the startup of the clubs for this year! 4-H Clubs will take place the 2nd Thursday of each month for 4th, 5th & 6th grade members. Check with the school office on how to enroll for these clubs and what times they will meet each month! You must be an enrolled 4-H member to attend these club meetings.

2017 4-H Kick-Off! SAVE THE DATE!!! Saturday, October 14

Join us and learn what Meade County 4-H is all about! Meet our club leaders and members, learn about 4-H opportunities, enroll as a member, meet & greet with old and new friends! Volunteers are need to help run booths, give out goodies and greet participants – call Deana if you are interested in volunteering!

Livestock Clubs Meeting Dates Set The deadline to enroll in one of our 4-H Livestock Clubs (i.e. Sheep, Goat, Swine or Beef) is Tuesday, October 31st! Club leaders are excited about this upcoming program year and some educational changes that will be happening – details to come! Make sure you check out each clubs tab on our website for a complete list of club meeting dates for this year. October/November meeting dates include: Beef Club: October 9th at 6:00 pm & October 17th at 6:00 pm (record books/fair checks); Goat Club: October 10th at 6:30 (record books/fair checks), November 14th at 6:30 pm; Sheep Club: October 19th at 7:00 pm, November 7th at 7:00 pm; Swine Club: October 30th at 6:00 pm, November 28th at 6:00 pm.

2018 4-H Summer Camp The weather is getting cooler and the leaves are beginning to fall, but don’t fret, SUMMER will be here before you know it! Meade County will once again be attending 4-H summer camp in 2018.
