to watch Patch Theatre Company’s show Me and My Shadow.

Me and My Shadow

You are going on a school excursion to Riverside Theatres in Parramatta.

There are signs out the front saying ‘Riverside’.

There are sliding doors going into the foyer.

Before the show starts you might need to wait in the foyer.

The foyer is where you wait with your teachers and friends until the

performance starts

You might also wait in the courtyard. The courtyard is next to the foyer and is

outside. The is a roof over the courtyard in case it rains.

While you are waiting, you might need to go to the toilet. The toilets are there

for you to use.

The show you are seeing is on in the Riverside Theatre.

There is a sign out the front of the Riverside Theatre with a number 4.

The Riverside Theatre has 4 different doors to enter the theatre from.

They are called ‘Door 1’, ‘Door 2’, ‘Door 3’ and ‘Door 4’. They have big numbers

to tell you which door is which.

An usher will check your tickets and tell you which door to go through.

Then you will go inside.

Inside the theatre there are red seats. There is seating downstairs

and upstairs

An usher or your teacher will tell you which seat to sit in.

When the show starts, the lights will turn down a little but it will not go very

dark, so don’t worry.

Now is the time to sit quietly to listen and watch the actors perform the story.

You are seeing a theatre show, not a movie. There will be real people on stage.

If you need to talk to your friends or teacher during the show you can whisper.

The show, Me and My Shadow is about a girl making friends with her shadow.

But, making friends with your shadow can be a tricky business.

In Me and My Shadow there are two characters: the child and the shadow

Me And My Shadow uses:

paper,

light and shadow,

colour,

water,

music, sound

and words

to create a playful world where the imagined ideas seem to become real.

On the stage are many paper bags, which the

actors might open during the show.

These may look like buildings in a town, or a hat or

a pillow.

There is a lot of imagination in what the paper can

represent.

There are some large sheets of paper hanging up

on the stage, which the actors go behind and in

front.

There will be lights of different colours, and they

may do surprising things, to make you laugh.

Sometimes the lights will

show the actor’s shadow on

the paper, and sometimes the

shadows get quite big, when

the actors play with the lights.

It will be a bit dark, so we can

see the shadows, but the

lights for the audience will

stay on for the whole show.

During the show, you are free to leave the theatre and return if you need to.

When the show comes to the end, the actors will come onstage and bow.

People will clap their hands.

This is to thank the actors for the show. You can clap too if you want to.

If it is too loud you can put your hands over your ears.

When the performance is finished, you will leave Riverside.

You will leave through the sliding doors again.
