Letter From the Editor
Dear MC2 Families,
Welcome to the first ever student-written
MC2 newsletter! As some of you may know,
our newsletters were traditionally written
entirely by the MC2 staff. As the Journalism
teacher, I’ve given the responsibility of writ-
ing articles for the school newsletter to my
students. You’ll notice that every article
(with the exception of this one) was written
by students. This assignment was in correla-
tion with our interview unit. Students were
assigned a staff member to interview and
then write an article for the newsletter. I
couldn’t be more proud of all of the hard
work that the students put into this project,
and I’m very happy with the results.
In addition to being responsible for the
newsletter, Journalism will be delving into
some interesting learning this semester. We
just finished our interview unit, and the stu-
dents really thrived. We just began a unit
on the podcast Serial, and students are al-
ready hooked on the story of an investiga-
tive journalist on a murder case.
I hope you enjoy this new format of the
newsletter, and I’m very excited about
what is sure to be an excellent year.
Yours in fun and learning,
Evelyn Wippich
Meet Our New Principal!
Stacy McCoy
We had the pleasure to interview our very
own new principal, Stacy McCoy. Stacy
really loves working with the staff and stu-
dents here at MC2. Stacy was born in Mil-
waukee, Wisconsin. After graduating from
the University of Milwaukee and getting her
master’s degree, Stacy began traveling
around the world. She traveled to Hong
Kong, Thailand, China, France, and many
more places. She has an eleven year old
child, Will. Before Stacy was our new princi-
pal she had multiple jobs such as being a
waitress, salad chef, English teacher, and a
high school assistant principal. She likes
teaching but loves being a principal here
at our school. “I like being the principal and
moving forward with the school community
to accomplish goals.” She stated that even
though she loves being the principal, it
comes with a lot of responsibility and work.
Her dream in life is to work with MC2 and
work to move our community forward by
building more partnerships and expanding
opportunities for all students. We learned so
much about Stacy and we hope that she
will stay with us and help improve MC2 for
the best.

isn't talking about education, she is usually
having fun. She visits her family in Minneso-

News From Elective Classes We sat down with Evelyn and Abby to talk about their Arts &
Humanities class. Abby told us they’re studying the “1920’s be-
cause a lot of art things happened and it was an amazing
time.” The latest project they completed is painting a stool for
each teacher. The reason they did was to jazz up the school
and to makes things look fun. The class is going to be doing
many exciting things for the rest of the semester. A person from
the Haggerty Museum will be coming in to do some activities
with the students plus they get to visit the museum and they will
be doing a program with the Repertory Theater.

We interviewed Laura, the teacher of College, Careers and
Communities. Her class covers how to be successful during high
school and learning things that usually aren’t taught. As far as
education, Laura is concerned about the students learning the
financial aid process. Laura is very comfortable with the Col-
lege, Careers, and Communities class, she is very supportive,
and wants all of her students to be successful after high school.

News From the Math Department
Jeff is working with students to help them
figure out different math strategies. In Alge-
bra 1, He is working with the students on
many basic areas of equations, including:
Distributive property, Associative Property,
Order of Operations, and One-Step equa-
tions. In Algebra 2, Jeff is teaching the stu-
dents how to do linear equations. They
have to solve them then coordinate them
in a graph. Jeff also has the Seniors working
with Rubik’s Cubes. The students are using
algorithms to try and solve it. “It helps the
students with real life problems,” Jeff told
us. Jeff started out as a teacher's assistant,
and, with time, he learned that he loved to
teach others. His enthusiasm for teaching
has made him the teacher we all know
and love.

News From the Social Studies
Department We were curious why history was always so
much fun so we decided we'd set up an
interview with Abby to get the scoop. Abby
said her class is so fun because “I try not to
be too serious. I try to make jokes and have
fun and let kids to have an opportunity to
move around and talk with each other be-
cause it can get a little stuffy.” Abby
doesn’t just teach us about history--she
teaches us some important life lessons, for
example: “If you can’t win a war in Af-
ghanistan, don’t start a war there.” That is,
if you know you’re going to get in trouble
don’t do it. We don't necessarily always fol-
low her advice, but we're learning to, so
she must be doing something right.

News From the Science Department Science is an interesting subject to learn
about how things work around us. In Biolo-
gy class with Brittany, we’ll be learning
about micro level biology and developing
oral presentation skills. We will also be learn-
ing about cells and DNA. In Environmental
Science, we will be learning about the dy-
namic of earth, ecology, and interactions.
Brittany is excited about both, but ¨Biology
is fascinating because we are biology.” Bi-
ology is the study of living organisms, so she
is excited to teach about the body. When
asked “What came first, the chicken or the
egg?” Brittany silently thought about it and
responded, “I think the chicken came first.”
Brittany seems very excited about being
here and teaching at MC2.

News From the
English Department
Evelyn likes all of her
English classes for
many reasons, going
from the energy and
enthusiasm of the
Freshmen to the Sen-
iors which are more
a c c e p t i n g o f
knowledge and
seeking of independ-
ence. She says she
tries teaching differ-
ently, for her students
to see the subject
from “a different per-
spective.” She al-
ways tries to relate
the topics to some-
thing funny that
would help students
to remember things.
She would always
use silly examples
that would make
things easier for stu-
dents to learn.
