Elements of This Hybrid Schedule18
• In-person students attend 2 days a week• Each class ranges from 50 minutes (MBMS) to 60
minutes (MCHS)• For online learning, teachers have the option to:
• Simulcast/stream their in-person classes to serve online students
• Use a 30-35 minute class in the afternoon to provide online instruction
• No in-person lunch at this time• Students with IEPs can be supported in-person in the
afternoon
Regular Board Meeting – March 17, 2021
Preparing for Simulcast/Streaming19
• This was not considered a viable option until last week
• It has been used successfully in many school districts
• We have discussed with and/or visited schools who are successfully implementing this in other counties
• Making plans to purchase equipment being successfully used in other schools
• Preparations for professional development begin next week
Regular Board Meeting – March 17, 2021
Secondary Parents Survey20
Regular Board Meeting – March 17, 2021
Maintaining Strong In-Person Attendance22
• Secondary schools in other counties have reported significant drops in attendance since going to in-person instruction• Some schools have experienced a 50% decline
• Students may choose in-person learning and then decide to move to distance learning at any time
• Students may also choose distance learning and can request a move to in-person learning, but may only change if there is room
• Students who regularly fail to attend in-person learning will be moved to distance learning
• If county regulations change, in-person learning could move to 4 or 5 days a week.
Regular Board Meeting – March 17, 2021
Next Steps23
• Finalize MOU with MBUTA• Request that parents select in-person or distance
learning• Provide streaming/simulcast professional

Questions from MBUSD Parents25
What can we do to get our students into school for a longer day?
• At this time, all efforts are focused on opening middle school and high school.
• Guidance on cleaning and disinfecting has changed, and we may be able to consider attending in-person school on Wednesdays, if the low COVID numbers continue
• Reexamining room capacity, comparing in-person enrollment with room configuration diagrams.
Regular Board Meeting – March 17, 2021
Questions from MBUSD Parents25
Why can’t cheer and dance perform at football games?
• LACDPH has been stating that cheer and dance may perform at their own events, but may not perform at another sporting team’s game or event
• Dr. Matthews requested that LACDPH reconsider this guidance, arguing that football, dance, and cheer are all separate events and never play/perform on the same field. (Also sent by ESUSD, RBUSD, and TUSD)
• From CADPH Youth Sports Q&A:• Will sideline cheer, band, drumline or other supporting groups
be allowed to attend sporting events?• Sideline cheer, band, drumline or other supporting groups are
not allowed to attend sporting events at this time.Regular Board Meeting – March 17, 2021
Questions from MBUSD Parents25
When can choir and band begin singing and playing?
• LACDPH has been stating that there is to be no singing or playing wind instruments, even outdoors. Dr. Matthews requested that LACDPH reconsider this guidance, arguing there is conflicting guidance at the state level (Thank you Mr. Carlson!), and that there are health departments in other counties interpreting that same guidance that have allowed outdoor band and choir, as long as:• Students are 12 feet apart• Always wearing masks• Masks or bell covers on instruments
• Hoping for new guidance
