ESSEC BUSINESS SCHOOL,THE PIONEERING SPIRIT

CREATED IN 1907, ESSEC BUSINESS SCHOOL IS AN ACADEMIC INSTITUTION OF EXCELLENCE WHICH THROUGHOUT ITS HISTORY HAS BEEN CHARACTERIZED BY ITS PIONEERING SPIRIT.

In both full-time education and vocational training, ESSEC proposes a wide range of programs to all those wanting to obtain an extraordinary learning experience, strengthen their talent, express their leadership and become truly high-level managers. A centennial institution with a wide network of companies and academic institutions in France and throughout the world, ESSEC has opted to focus its strategic development on three principles: innovation, involvement and internationalization which compose the three axes of the ESSEC 3i strategy that will be implemented from here until 2020. An institution nourished by research and committed to an ambitious development of alliances with leading institutions, ESSEC constantly strives to a bring its students face to face with cutting-edge knowledge at the crossroads of discipline and to provide them with the latest technologies.Hallmarked by a profound humanist tradition, ESSEC has succeeded not only in making the link between business and society a major subject of research, but it is also one of the fundamental components in the training of responsible managers. ESSEC thereby affirms the necessity of putting innovation, knowledge and the creation of value at the service of the wider community.

With students coming from 90 different countries, a largely international faculty body and a campus in the Asia-Pacifi c region since 2005, ESSEC is both an international and multicultural institution. This internationalization is strengthened by the building of a new, 6,500 m2 campus in Singapore and the implementation of development projects in Africa and Latin America.

These three axes – innovation, involvement and internationalization – forge ESSEC’s learning philosophy that is common to all its programs: accompany our students throughout a learning journey aimed at opening them up to new, unthought-of opportunities. Studying at ESSEC means creating your own path towards the future and joining a supportive community of 46,000 graduates worldwide!

Welcome to ESSEC!

As part of this wider industry, hospitality has evolved into a highly competitive, complex and global business that offers exciting career opportunities. Our graduates work at senior management and corporate level in a diverse range of sectors including international hotel chains, independent hotels, restaurants, contract catering and food services, consultancies, online travel distribution, theme parks, convention and meeting planning, financial institutions and real estate development.

Why an MBA focusing on the hospitality industry?Business leaders need not only excellent analytical decision-making and value-ad-ding skil ls; they also require in-depth in-sight into the industries in which they work. By focusing on hospitality, this MBA program en-ables participants to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive environment, thanks to their comprehensive understanding of this complex industry and solid grounding in core business disciplines.

“ESSEC Hospitality has set the right balance between the necessary foundation that is required in an academic curriculum and the management skills that are needed in today’s world. Students are well prepared and connected with the reality and challenges of our ever-evolving industry.”Jean FAIVRE, Area Vice President Operations Western & Southern Europe, Hilton.

Enhancing career prospectsThe Consultancy ProjectThis group exercise, carried out at the end of the program, combines knowledge acquired during the program with a real-world, challenging bu-siness situation. It is carried out full time for two months by teams drawn from different concen-trations and is supervised by a Faculty member and a Company Executive.

Professional Experience- Supervised internships: They give partici-

pants the opportunity to gain in-depth work experience, improve their language skills and increase their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-life situations. The internship period lasts for seven months.

- The apprenticeship program: It enables se-lected participants to gain professional expe-rience in synergy with their academic studies. It is open only to participants under the age of 26. Partner companies pay the tuition fees of their apprentices, who in addition receive compensation based on a percentage of the French minimum wage, in return for working with the company throughout their studies. This is an ideal way for qualified applicants to finance their studies while at the same time building a valuable portfolio of professional experience. The apprenticeship scheme is also open to international students. However, a good knowledge of French is compulsory to secure an apprenticeship contract as all ap-prenticeships take place in or around Paris.

Focus on careerParticipants select one out of four concentra-tions:

Luxury Services Management: Developed in collaboration with the ESSEC MBA in Interna-tional Luxury Brand Management, this concen-tration focuses on brand management in the luxury sector.

E-Commerce: In today’s digital world, travel is one of the top products sold on-line. This concentration focuses on developing the skills and competencies necessary to work in this highly complex field.

Real Estate and Development: The increa-singly financial nature of the hospitality bu-siness and the growing importance of the position of property managers in corporate strategy both give rise to new challenges in the real estate sector.

Entrepreneurship: Developed in collaboration with ESSEC New Business Center, this concen-tration provides the tools and support for participants interested in developing their own project or company.

“The diverse experiences and cultural backgrounds of ESSEC Hospitality graduates, combined with the hospitality industry fundamentals that are provided by the academic program, make them a good fit to contribute to the growth of our business.”Cyril RANQUE, Senior Vice President Global Market Management Expedia.
