Open the battery compartment bysliding it towards the bottom of theunit.

Insert two (2) "AAA" size batteries(not included) following the polaritydiagram. Slide the batterycompartment back in place.

NOTE: When replacing the batteries,the recorded messages will be saved,but the time will have to be reset.

BATTERY PRECAUTIONSFollow these precautions when using batteries in thisdevice:1. Use only the size and type of batteries

specified.2. Be sure to follow the correct polarity when

installing the batteries as indicated in thebattery compartment. Reversed batteries maycause damage to the device.

3. Do not mix different types of batteries together(e.g. Alkaline, Rechargeable and Carbon-zinc)or old batteries with fresh ones.

4. If the device is not to be used for a long period oftime, remove the batteries to prevent damage orinjury from possible battery leakage.

5. Do not try to recharge batteries not intended tobe recharged; they can overheat and rupture.(Follow battery manufacturer’s directions.)

While the date/time appears in the display,press the FILE/TIME button to select 12 or24 hour time display.

Press and hold the MODE/PAUSE buttonfor two seconds, then release; “SET” willappear in the display. Press the MODE/PAUSE button once again to enter the SetDate mode.

Press the PLAY/STOP button 1 to confirmand the year will blink. Set the year usingthe REV 2 and FWD 3 buttons, then pressthe PLAY/STOP button 1 again toconfirm.

Set the Month using the FWD 1 and REV 2

buttons, then press the PLAY/STOP button3 again to confirm. Repeat this step to setthe Day, Hour and Minute. After setting theminute, press the PLAY/STOP button 3

again and the date/time will be set.

To turn the unit on, press the REC/STOP 1 orPLAY/STOP 2 button. To turn the unit off, simplydo not touch any button for 30 seconds, and theunit will automatically turn off and show the time.

EARPHONE JACKFor private listening, connect an earphone(not included) to this jack. The speaker isautomatically disconnected when theearphone plug is inserted in the jack.

RECORDING QUALITYYou can choose between four voice recordingquality modes. For best sound quality, select HP(High Play) and for good quality, select MP(Medium Play). For longer recording time(reasonable sound quality), select LP (LongPlay).

The number at the top right of thedisplay indicates the total messages recorded.The number at the bottom of the display willindicate the total time recorded for the selectedmessage.

SELECTING A FILE FOLDERThis unit has four memory storage areas (filefolders) to choose from, labeled A, B, C and D. Youcan store a total of 99 messages in each dividualfile folder, for four file folder you can save a total of396 messages or 1680 minutes in LP mode (853min. in MP, 427 min. in HP) in all the folders. Toselect the folder:

NOTE:Each time you record a message, the unit will assigna number, counting up 1 from the last messagenumber, which will be shown on the display.If the unit is full, FULL will appear in the display.Delete messages in this case.

Slide the MIC SENS switch to the LOWposition if recording sounds that are close.Select the HIGH position if recordingsounds that are further away.

Slide the HOLD switch to the LOCK position todisable the buttons; HOLD will appear in thedisplay if the unit is in the Standby mode. Slidethe HOLD switch to the OFF position to enablethe buttons again.

Make sure the VOX switch on the rear of unit isset to OFF. Turn the unit on (by pressing theREC/STOP or PLAY/STOP button) and select thedesired sound quality as previously described.

Select a File Folder as described on page13 by pressing the FILE/TIME button 1.While in the Standby mode, press theREC/STOP button 2 and the REC indicatorwill light and the elapsed time will appear.

NORMAL RECORDINGThis unit is capable of recording only whensound is heard. To use this feature, see page17. For normal recording, follow steps below.

Speak into the built-in microphone or insert amicrophone into the MIC jack and speak into it ina normal tone of voice. Press the REC/STOPbutton again to stop recording.

Press and hold the PLAY/STOP button 1 to seethe remaining recording time during recording. Topause recording, press the MODE/PAUSE button2; PAUSE will blink in the display. To releasepause, press the MODE/PAUSE button 2 again.

VOICE ACTIVATED (VOX) RECORDING

Voice activated recording will allow dictationonly when you speak. When the unit detectsa pause of a few seconds, it will temporarilystop recording until it detects sound again.

Press the REC/STOP button and the RECindicator will light and the elapsed time willappear. Speak into the built-in microphoneor insert a microphone into the MIC jack andwhen the unit picks up sound, it will record.When not recording, the REC indicator willblink and PAUSE will blink in the displayuntil sound is detected. Press theREC/STOP button again to stop recording.

NOTES:• The first few sounds activate the recorder and

may not be recorded.• A variation in voice level during recording will not

stop the unit, two seconds of silence is requiredto stop the recording.

• For constant recording, see page 15.• To pause, press the MODE/PAUSE button.• The built-in audio level automatically sets the

recording level.• For normal voice levels, a distance of 5-9

Press the PLAY/STOP button 1; the unit will playthe currently selected message, then stop. Duringplayback, the Play indicator and the elapsed timeof the message will appear in the display. You cancheck the message recording time and date bypressing the REC/STOP button 2. The unit willreturn to the elapsed time after five seconds.

The unit willautomatically scan and play the first five secondsof each message in the selected file folder,starting at message one.

The unit will automatically stop after all messageshave been played. To play back the messageduring scanning, press the PLAY/STOP buttononce to change to Playback mode. To stop ScanPlayback, press the PLAY/STOP button twice.

To erase, press theDEL/REPEAT button within the five seconds whileit is playing and the rest of the messages will berenumbered. To erase all the messages, press the DEL/REPEATbutton again within five seconds. If theDEL/REPEAT button is not pressed again withinthe five seconds, the messages will not erase.

ERASING ALL MESSAGES

IMPORTANT NOTES:• Once message(s) are deleted, they cannot be

recovered.• If the memory is full, FULL will appear in the

display when you press the REC/STOP button tostart recording. The recording will be disabled.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

RESETTING THE UNITIf the unit is exposed to a strong staticelectrical charge, the unit may lock up,or the display may dim. This is veryrare, but if it does happen, remove thebatteries and then reinstall. All settingswill return to their preset values, but theprevious messages are saved.

TRAFFIC SAFETY• Do not use while operating amotorized vehicle. It may create atraffic hazard and is illegal in manyareas.

• Even if your earphone is an open airtype designed to let you hear outsidesounds, do not turn the volume up sohigh that you cannot hear what isaround you.

• Use extreme caution or temporarilydiscontinue use in potentiallyhazardous situations.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

CARE• Keep the unit dry. If it gets wet, wipe itimmediately. Liquids may containminerals that can corrode the circuits.

• Use and store the unit only in normaltemperature environments. Extremetemperatures can shorten the life ofelectronic devices, damage batteriesand/or melt plastic parts.

• Keep the unit away from dirt and dust.• Handle the unit gently and carefully.Dropping it can cause damage andmay cause the unit to workimproperly.

• To clean, wipe the unit with a dampcloth occasionally to keep it lookingnew. Do not use harsh chemicals,cleaning solvents or strongdetergents.

CUIDADO DE LAS PILASCuando use pilas, tome las siguientesprecauciones:1. Use únicamente el tamaño de pila que indica

el fabricante.2. Asegúrese de seguir la polaridad indicada en

el compartimiento cuando coloque la misma.De no hacerlo, la unidad podría dañarse.

3. No mezcle tipos de pilas diferentes, porejemplo alcalinas con Carbono de Cinc, nitampoco mezcle pilas usadas con nuevas.

4. Si no va a utilizar su unidad por un período detiempo prolongado, saque la pila para evitarque se oxide y se dañen las terminales.

5. Nunca intente recargar pilas que no han sidofabricadas para este fin, ya que puedenrecalentarse y reventar. (Siga lasindicaciones del fabricante de las pilas).

SELECCIONAR UNA CARPETA DE ARCHIVOSEsta unidad tiene cuatro áreas de memoria dealmacenamiento (carpetas de archivos) de las cuales elegir,denominadas A, B, C y D. Puede guardar un total de 99mensajes en cada carpeta de archivos individual, es decirque si multiplicamos ese número por cuatro carpetas, sepueden guardar un total de 396 mensajes o 1680 minutosen modo LP ( 853 min. en MP, 427 min. en HP) en todas lascarpetas. Para seleccionar una carpeta:

NOTA:Cada vez que grabe un mensaje, la unidad le asignaráun número, que será un número superior al últimonúmero de mensaje, que se mostrará en la pantalla.Si la unidad esté llena, “FULL” aparecerá aparecerá enla pantalla. En tal caso, borre mensajes.

Deslice el interruptor de SENSIBILIDAD DELMICRÓFONO (MIC SENS) hasta la posiciónBAJA (LOW) si los sonidos que se graban estáncerca. Seleccione la posición ALTA (HIGH) si lossonidos que se graban están alejados.

La grabación activada con la voz le permitirágrabar únicamente cuando habla. Cuando launidad detecta una pausa de unos pocossegundos, deja temporalmente de grabar hastaque detecta sonido nuevamente.

Oprima GRABAR/DETENER (REC/STOP) paraque se ilumine el indicador GRABAR (REC) yaparezca el tiempo transcurrido. Hable almicrófono integrado o introduzca un micrófonoen la entrada MIC. Cuando la unidad detectesonido, grabará. Cuando no hay grabación, elindicador GRABAR (REC) y PAUSA (PAUSE)destellarán en la pantalla hasta que se detectesonido. Oprima GRABAR/DETENER (REC/STOP) nuevamente para detener la grabación.

NOTAS:• Los primeros sonidos activan el grabador y es

probable que no se graben.• Las variaciones en el nivel de voz durante la

grabación no detendrán la unidad, son necesariosdos segundos de silencio para detener la grabación.

• Para que la grabación sea constante, consulte lapágina 15.

• Para hacer una pausa, oprima MODO/PAUSA(MODE/PAUSE).

Reiniciar de la UnidadSi la unidad está expuesta a una cargaeléctrica estática fuerte, puedebloquearse o se puede apagar la pantalla.Esto ocurre en casos excepcionales, perosi lo hace, quite las pilas y vuelva arealizar la instalación. Todas lasconfiguraciones volverán a sus valorespredeterminados, pero los mensajesprevios estarán guardados.

SEGURIDAD EN EL TRÁNSITO• No utilice la unidad cuando maneja unvehículo motorizado. Puede ocasionarun riesgo para el tránsito y es ilegal enmuchas áreas.

• Aunque su auricular sea del tipo abiertoal exterior y diseñado para permitirle oírlos sonidos externos, no suba elvolumen tan alto que no pueda oír loque sucede a su alrededor.

• Tenga precaución extrema odiscontinúe temporalmente su uso ensituaciones potencialmente peligrosas.
