Seniors need to be aware of a number of scholarships that are
due in the next few weeks. The Ousley, Rogue Federal Credit
Union, OIT Scholarships, the PEO Scholarship and several others
are listed on our Facebook page at “MHS Seniors Counseling”.
Many of these are local scholarships.
Seniors are encouraged to see Mr. Rooney in the Counseling
Office if they have interest in a particular scholarship
or if they have any questions. This can be a hectic time
of year, so please stay on top of these important dead-
lines in order to apply for those scholarships for which
your student may qualify.
Partnership With Business Project

Maama FBLA
Partnering with Pacific Crest Federal
Credit Union in the 2013-2014 school year
was an enormous success. Mazama High
School FBLA was very excited to help stu-
dents learn the importance of saving and how
it will have an effect on them in the future.
Chapter members helped with the project by
taking surveys, voting on flyers, participating
in a poster committee, and attending meet-
ings and presentations. The partnership in-
volved almost all chapter members, and eve-
ry member helped to make the project a suc-
cess. In addition, each side of the partnership
gained many benefits through the implemen-
tation of project activities.

An amazing 44 awards were earned by Mazama FBLA members at the Cascade
Regional Conference which was held at Ridgeview High School on February 10.
Traveling to Redmond was new this year as the conference is usually held at
Oregon Institute of Technology. Members took their online tests early so they
were able to participate in speaking events or business workshops on Ridgeview’s
beautiful campus. On the next page are the results!

Dear Senior and/or Senior Parent:
Hard to believe, isn’t it, that you will be graduating in a matter of months? Doesn’t it
seem like only yesterday that you were a scared little freshman trying to find your locker
and avoid those “big seniors” whose sole purpose in life seemed to be to make your life
miserable?
You and your friends have shared some incredible times. Remember your first
prom, that big game when you finally got to start, your first kiss from that extra special
someone, the teacher you loved to torture, or the coach who pushed you far beyond what
you thought was humanly possible? Memories are made of this—the times you and your
friends shared. Even though all you can think about now is “getting’ outta here,” some-
day, you will look back at these high school years as some of the best years of your life.
Why not tell your friends how much you care and make your message one that
will last forever? Express your friendship, love, or congratulations to all the special peo-
ple in your life by recognizing them with an ad in the all-color 2010 Valhalla Yearbook.
Select any one of several sizes to fit your budget and personalize it with your own mes-
sage, even a photo, at no extra charge. Please don’t send original photos. We cannot
guarantee safe return!
Many times several friends go together to buy an ad and include a photograph of
the “gang.” Couples often choose a Winter Formal photo with a special message express-
ing their affection. How about thanking Mom and Dad for all the love and support they
have given you over the years? Parents or grandparents often write a good luck message
to their graduating senior.
Write your message below or attach a copy of what you would like and put it in an
envelope addressed to “Mazama High School Attn: Lisa Schmidt” with a check made
payable to Mazama before March 14, 2014.
Don’t let this special opportunity pass. Every time you page through your year-
book, you’ll see the personal message you sent to your special friend at the end of your
high school years, and all those memories will come back for you to enjoy again and
again.

-Choosing the right college -Applying to college
-Financial Aid -Oregon colleges
“Our students will be millionaires by the time they’re 55!”
A big claim made by Dave Ramsey about the students enrolled in Mr. Drew’s
Personal Finance class. Foundations in Personal Finance is the high school
edition of his Financial Peace University. Dave is a financial advisor and
hosts a radio show about building wealth and living a debt-free life. Mazama
purchased the Dave Ramsey Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum this
year.
Topics covered include how to save to pay cash for cars and college instead
of going into debt. Then there’s life after high school, money and relation-
ships, consumer awareness, bargain shopping, and investing. The most im-
portant goal of the class is to teach
students how to live debt-free to build wealth.
Most high school students don’t spend their time worrying about mortgages
or investments, but they are at an age when smaller financial responsibilities
start creeping into their lives. Many students earn an allowance or have
already begun working a part-time job. Those who have no financial plan put
it in their pockets and spend it just like 70% of “normal” Americans who live
paycheck to paycheck.
Foundations in Personal Finance shows students how not to be normal by
making a financial plan now, create a sinking fund to pay for big purchases,
and develop critical wealth-building strategies for a great future.
Financial decisions students start making now will have long-term conse-
quences, either good or bad. Personal Finance class will give students the
tools and knowledge that will help them win with money right from the start.
Encourage your child to register for Personal Finance to meet the Economics
requirement for graduation, earn 3 free college credits through Klamath Com-
munity College and get the tools they need to build wealth for a secure future.
Nikko C.
Mazama High School’s “Sparrow”
Condition: Premature Birth
City, State: Klamath Falls, OR
Club: Mazama High SchoolDate Adopted: 2/14/2014
Nikko's Story: When Ashley (Nikko’s mom) was pregnant, she developed an aggressive type of anemia and her blood
cells began attacking Nikko’s blood. Nikko also had too much fluid around him in the womb. He and his
mom were airlifted to Portland and while still in utero, Nikko had his first blood transfusion. Shortly after,
doctors decided to deliver Nikko by C-section at only twenty-six weeks. Little Nikko was born on August
14th, 2013, weighing only 2 lbs., 4 oz. Because he was extremely premature, he had some complications.
His skin was translucent and paper-thin. Nikko’s lungs were underdeveloped and he had a heart murmur.
His parents had to wait weeks before they could even hold him. Nikko needed assistance from oxygen and
a feeding tube through his nose. After spending the first 120 days of his life in the hospital, little Nikko
finally got to come home.
Since birth Nikko has had seven blood transfusions (all within the first two months of life) and may need
more. In November, he also endured surgery for a hernia in his tummy and a hole in his intestines.
Now, at 7-months-old, Nikko is weighing in at over 10 lbs. and is a happy and growing boy. Nikko still
has lung disease (from underdeveloped lungs), but doctors believe that as he gets stronger, his lungs will
heal themselves. Nikko may need future surgery for inflammation in his throat (which sometimes makes it
difficult to breathe), and will soon start several kinds of therapy on a regular basis to help him develop-
mentally “catch up.”
Nikko will be adopted as a Sparrow to Mazama High School in Klamath Falls. Students will work hard to
raise money for Nikko through sponsored community service and fundraising projects.
