THE FIRST WORD UPDATE FROM RANDY

We are called to change our world one life at a time. Aren’t you glad you are one of those lives that was changed! It’s worth the time it takes to reflect and remember: What are the catalysts God has used to change you?

It may not be a what; it’s likely a who. Your life crossed paths with someone who nudged you toward God. A friend invited you, your spouse begged you (that rarely works…but sometimes…), the preacher challenged you, or someone at work talked to you…and from that nudge, life began to change. Do you remember who it was? Do you remember where you were when you decided it’s going to be different from now on? What are those catalyst experiences that have changed you?

Conversion is one. It’s that point when you said, “It’s more than just believing; I surrender” but there are others. Maybe it was joining a Life Group. You didn’t realize at the time, but those people have grown into deeper relationships than you ever ex-pected. And, yeah, I’ve changed because of them. That’s pretty cool. Maybe it’s when you began to give yourself to serve somewhere. It might be Freed from Within, it could be in the children’s min-istry, or Quest, but giving changed you.

One of those change points in my life was the first time I went on a mission trip. I saw people in need unlike any I had ever seen before. (On my first trip two children died of malnutrition while we were building a feeding center to feed the kids in that community. That will grab your heart.) Here’s the point: We are changed when we step into new ex-periences, when we accept new challenges, when we try what is uncomfortable. Those times change us. God uses those fresh moments to shape us and mold us into His image.

So what are you going to try? God has a blessing waiting for you. It lies just on the other side of “I’ll go for it.” Ah, but you say, “I don’t have time. My life is packed. I can’t squeeze in one more thing.” That’s all true. So what do you need to eliminate so you can accept the challenge to do what God wants to use, to take your walk with Him to a whole other level? “Ouch!”

God has plans that require your participation. His plans make you better and this world a better place and prepare you for the next place. It’s a win, win! But it requires an adjustment on your part. Ready, Set, Go! ...Wait! Before you go, who are you going to bring along with you? Okay, now go!

I’ve spent the past 10 minutes or so gleaning over a yellow piece of paper on my desk. On this little memo paper, I’ve scribbled down some words that have impacted me this month more than anything I have read in a long time. They are words to the Psalms, chapter 15.

I have read completely through the Bible two times in my life. I’ve also taught countless Sunday School classes, done dozens of men’s breakfast talks, and loads of campfire devotions. So, tell me – how did this golden nugget of scripture manage to escape me this long?

A real advantage to leading Bible studies is that the teacher gathers more than the student. Our Mon-day morning men’s group is doing a chapter-by-chapter study of the book of Proverbs. One Sun-day afternoon, I was working through my lesson, gathering some cross-reference verses, and came across Psalms 15. When I sat down and read that Psalm, I could not get away from it. For me, it was reading a passage that was a mini-handbook for what any man of God should aspire to be. It was as if God had withheld this valuable information from me until I could fully appreciate it.Take a look at the text:

PSALM 15 (NIV)Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blame-less and who does what is righteous, who speaks

the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue; who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellow man, who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord; who keeps his oath, even when it hurts. Who lends his money without usury, and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

That Sunday afternoon, I poured over those five verses, again, and again. It was one of those mo-ments we all savor; when God provides a revela-tion…new insight into His word – and a glimpse of what I can become, when I give Him my full devo-tion and attention.

A Psalms 15 guy is who I want to be. I want to strive to live an upright and blameless life. I want others to know, when they speak with me, that they need not fear hidden agendas or half-truths. I not only want to treat – but see others as God sees them. I want to love what is good, and shun what is evil! I want to be known as a generous man, whose word is enough! I want to be an advocate for those who have none. Above all else, I want others to know me by the God I serve – and the Christ I love!

I am going to commit this wonderful passage to memory. These are words a man should hide in his heart and have constantly on his mind. God, thank you so much for the wisdom and theexample that we find in your Word!

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

The next couple of months are going to be won-derful. In the month of May, the Sprouts will be learning one of my favorite stories- where Jesus tells us not to worry (something I need to hear of-ten). The preschoolers will then hear the story of Elijah. These are great stories to show how God provides for our basic needs. Finally, we’ll tell the story of Abraham and how he trusted God to pro-vide for him even when God asked him to move and promised what he couldn’t believe.

Then in June, they will be going on a pirate adven-ture. It will be really cool seeing our young friends learn that God is better than gold. Week one, pre-schoolers will discover Psalm 119:72. As they continue to hunt for Bible treasures, they will learn that they were wonderfully made, that God loves them all the time, and that they are part of God’s family. They’ll conclude the month with spyglasses to help them look for ways to help others. It’s go-ing to be exciting for sure.

For Upstreet, the wonder does not end. For the month of May, they will be learning to “Break Through” with endurance. Our memory verse for the month is Galatians 6:9. When we have endur-ance, we can know that it will be worth it. We’ll experience the joy of finishing what we started. For June, they will be discussing how we can live in “harmony” with one another, and friendship is treating others the way you want to be treated. Be-cause the verses you will be learning are short, we suggest that you take this summer to memorize each one.

There are so many things to look forward to in the coming months as well, here are just a few: In May,

there are Baton Classes all month long on Thurs-days, sign up at Resource Center. On May 2nd we will be hosting the annual Joy Prom, and May 21st will be our final Wednesday night meeting. In June, we have some more exciting events com-ing up. June 6th will be our 5th grade bowling, and on June 27th, we will be having our Father Son Camp Out at Buffalo Trace.

I can’t wait for all of these events. Also, we will be having camp at Camp Illiana this year. What an exciting thing that will be. Be sure to register your kids early. This is for those going into 3rd grade and those leaving 6th. You can register kids online. Be sure to call the church for the code, if you want to do it online. The church does pay for half and we are looking into transportation.

On a side note, I am excited to be in the world of twitter now. If you want to follow me, I am at @jesseB12647690. I know how much you guys love the cloud, so please follow along with me as we attempt to do something amazing here at FCCC.

Finally, I want to leave you with this thought. We need volunteers in all areas of the Next Gen classes. This is from babies to 5th grade. Our kids deserve the best from us. I am going to be doing a church wide recruiting and just say, WE NEED YOU!! This might be the only chance a kid ever gets to hear about Jesus. The kids need you. God is calling you to serve here at First Capital, please give your time. Call me at 606-369-4611.

In Christ, Jesse

“If I told you that you could change, do the right thing or make a difference, would you believe me? Would you want in? You can do these things, and it starts with this one thing – the Gospel. For THIS is more than doctrine or a speech. And trust me, THIS is exactly what you have been looking for. THIS breathes life, THIS creates family, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING.”

Those words come from the promotional mate-rial for this summer’s CIY MOVE conference that our students will be attending in Holland, Michi-gan this June. They may have been promotional words for a conference, but I feel they could also be used for The Quest. The Quest is a great place to come and experience personal change, make a

difference, or even to do the right thing. Quest is all about students; introducing our students to Je-sus, caring adult leaders, and even other students. Quest breathes life, creates family, and offers a safe place for students to connect.

This summer there will be many opportunities for our students to get involved in what we’re doing. We will be attending a Bats game, going white wa-ter rafting, going to amusement parks, having epic battles and loads of other fun things. THIS Quest, THIS summer CHANGES EVERYTHING!

CIY MOVE 2014JUNE 23 - 28, 2014Something has to change. And yet, no matter how hard we try, even our best efforts fall flat. But what if we’re missing the point? What if it’s not about trying? What if it’s about what’s already been done?

The resurrection changes everything.

*CIY MOVE is our High school summer conference. I do not want a student to miss out on MOVE due to money. IF you would like to help cover the cost, you can sponsor a student through their service; example are: mowing, yard work, babysitting, etc. If interested, please contact me @ 812.972.4382.

Welcome to First Capital’s newest members of the Dayspring Emmaus community: Jimmy & Kara Al-exander, Carolyn Young and Cheryl Johnson. Both the men and women had an amazing walk. Even though the men’s walk had only 22 pilgrims and

the women’s walk was full with 48, both walks had the feeling of closeness and intimacy and all went away with many new brothers and sisters.

There is no May gathering – the next gathering will be a Praise gathering on Friday, June 6th at 7:27pm at Wesley Chapel UMC, 2100 Hwy. 150, Floyds Knobs, IN. Children are welcome, but there is no childcare. Hope to see you there!

Much love & blessings to all!Darcy Hollingsworth, Community Lay Director

Hello one and all! Things are really picking up since spring has sprung. You are probably seeing this just before our 2014 Joy Prom. We are anticipating 125 guests in attendance along with their chaper-ones, so nearly 175 total guests. The guests will be treated like the stars that they are and Tyler and the band will be rocking the house. Thanks to all who help with this wonderful event, especially those for whom it was their first time volunteering. Call Bill Hollingsworth with questions or comments.

Coming up next will be our Biker Weekend on June 29th and 30th. The scheduled speaker is Lou Imbrogno of Rushing Wind Ministries. Lou is

a former 1%er and now is the President of Bik-ers for Christ Motorcycle Ministry in Louisville. He will speak on Saturday and Sunday. Following the 2nd service, there will be a cookout for the rid-ers followed by a 3 hour ride (weather permitting). Invite anyone you know who may be interested in hearing the speaker or participating in the ride. For ride info, contact Joel Wise 812-267-1955 or Mike Kirkham 812-267-7510. July will also be load-ed with our Fun in the Son and Outdoor Expo. Check the next newsletter for details.

Thanks and God Bless, Bill Hollingsworth

The worship department is really alive at the mo-ment and I am finding myself becoming more ac-climated to the Corydon community and FCCC. We are excited to announce that May brings an-other Encounter, as we skipped April. Also, we will begin to track an album that consists of original songs and hymns to pass out at Fall Down on the Square for free! In the last month, we have been featured on the website for worshipsetideas.com and Sunday Magazine. Praise be to God!

As always, if you are interested in joining the tech crew or the worship band, we are always looking for more volunteers. Also, I will begin giving gui-tar, drum, bass, keyboard, and vocal lessons every Monday beginning in May. If you are interested in learning an instrument to use for the praise team, please get with me and we will discuss a time!

COMMUNITY & ABROAD

We will again be sending a team to the Dominican Republic in February, 2015 and hope to send a team in October, 2015 as well. Please watch future newsletters for details, or contact the church office or Scott Noland at 812-267-2663, if you are inter-ested in participating in any of these trips.

Our very own Brenda Billner participated in a trip to Liberia with Teach to Transform (TTT), January 8th -18th. Monrovia has experienced civil war for 13 years, which has resulted in distrust, competitive-ness and jealousy and caused their young people to be angry and explosive. It will take a miracle working God to change their country. But, He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than we can think or hope to ask. TTT partnered with Zion Praise Baptist Church in Monrovia, Liberia, lead by Pastor William Tolbert. Brenda has gone with TTT on several trips to Africa. Following are the high-lights of her experience while there in January.

• A Muslim man made a commitment to Jesus and joined the Baptist church.

• Taught agriculture to 100 community members mixed with a lot of gospel.

• Assisted a group of 50 in planting a community garden and distributed plants to others in hopes of developing outreach to the poor families sur- rounding the church.

• Met with members of the medical community for

medical evangelism training.

• Trained fifteen students from the nearby Baptist Seminary to be Healthcare Screeners.

• Assisted two local Christian midwives and a nurse from a nearby hospital in training lay mid- wives who will go into the unreached parts of the rural areas.

• Furnished teaching & medical supplies to Mom- ma Ruth (a Masters degree midwife).

• Worked as liason between staff at a nearby clinic. New students from the church encourage them to volunteer at the clinic as Health Care Screen- ers.

• Met with Apostle Andrew who has an education- al/vocational center in Monrovia for girls who are on the streets. He asked us to return to teach sex/ childbirth education.

TTT plans to return to Monrovia in 6 - 9 months to check the progress and do further training. Brenda says THANK YOU to the FCCC mission commit-tee and her friends & family for supporting her with their prayers and finances to make this trip pos-sible.

If you would like more information about missions, feel free to talk to any of the committee members or attend a meeting.
