MAYAN CIVILIZATION

Daily Life The Mayan woman would make the clothing cook the food and clean. The slaves would take care of the children of a higher class family and also worked in the fields. The men would go out hunting for the food while the woman would serve them.

Geography This civilization was located in

Central America which was called the Yucatan peninsula and that is now parts of southern Mexico, Belize and Guatemala where there was volcanoes and mountains. There was the Lowlands and the Highlands. The lowlands is where the crops were grown because of the amount of rain. The highlands are where the volcanoes and mountains are.

Religion

Mayans prayed a lot to nature and the heavens. They believed in three gods for different reasons. They prayed to the Chac god for rain, the Yum Kaxx was for their cropping and foods. And they believed Itzamna god was the first god of night and day their writing , and medicine. They would also do human sacrifices for the gods. To the Mayans religion was taken very seriously because they felt it’s what their life depended on.

Mathematics Mathematics for the Mayans was

simple. They only used three symbols, a dot, a bar and a shell shape for zero. Their numbers had bases of 20’s. for example 1,20,400,8000,160000, this system was called the vigesimal system.

Architecture Mayans had their own design was building

and making the homes, pyramids and temples. The higher class was buried under the pyramids. The first pyramid built by the Mayans was in 600 b.c. there was carvings inside and outside of the temples and pyramids which has writings pictures and astrology on them. For these big buildings they used stone. Their houses are not so big because Mayan people did not grow that tall they would be as 5ft tall.
