Dzisiaj przypada VI Niedziela Wielkanocy. Ten szczególny okres wielkanocny stale stawia przed nami tajemnice wykraczające poza naszą obecną ziemską rzeczywistość. Dzisiejsze drugie czytanie stanowi ciąg dalszy wizji świętego Jana Ewangelisty, którą rozważaliśmy w zeszłym tygodniu. Jan znowu opowiada o niebiańskim Nowym Jeruzalem z Apokalipsy.

W dzisiejszej Ewangelii, Jezus mówi: „Jeśli Mnie kto miłuje, będzie zachowywał moją naukę, a Ojciec mój umiłuje go, i przyjdziemy do niego, i będziemy u niego przebywać” (Jan 14:23). Jest to możliwe dzięki Komunii Świętej. Ziemska Komunia daje nam przedsmak Komunii w Niebie, gdzie będziemy w pełni zjednoczeni z Bogiem. Vivat Iesus! Chwała Jezusowi!

FR. BOB’S BRIEFS We are back where we started. Do you remember? Five weeks ago, we began reading through Jesus’

Bread of Life Discourse in the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John. At the beginning of John 6, we read, “Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd followed him because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.” At that place and time, Jesus miraculously multiplied the five barley loaves and two fish to feed 5,000 people. For the past five weeks, we have heard how this large multitude of people has been constantly been hanging around Jesus. Now, this week, we hear how this vast crowd of people leaves Jesus and go away.

Many of Jesus' disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?"Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you? The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe." As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.” What a different scene it is today, compared to the scene from the previous four weeks. In the previous four weeks, we saw how thousands of people were all gathered around Jesus. Now, they all leave. Jesus is left by Himself by Sea of Galilee. We read in the Gospel of John today, “Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." In the beautiful, but poignant image, we see Jesus left alone, except by the Twelve, His only remaining friends. Jesus stands in the center, looking out at the sunset over the Sea of Galilee. Only the Twelve remain with Jesus. So, we are back where we started: Jesus alone with the Twelve at the edge of the Seas of Galilee. It is a sad and somber scene as Jesus and the Twelve look out over the Sea of Galilee by themselves. Where did everybody go? This scene from today’s Gospel is not just a picture isolated to the past. Does this scene not replay throughout the passage of time? Does this scene not replay in our own time and age? Where are all the people? Next time you are at church, look around. What do you see? I saw no more than 70 people at any of the Masses for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary last week. The latest statistics show that 80-85% of Catholics do not go to Sunday Mass every week. Just like in today’s Gospel, everybody seems to have left Jesus. Only a few remain with our Lord. It is very ironic that people do not want communion with Jesus in this life, but they want communion with Jesus in heaven for eternal life. Explain to me how do people expect to have communion with God in heaven, if they do not have communion with God beginning here on earth? That’s the culmination and whole point of Jesus’ Bread of Life discourse that we have been hearing for the past five weeks. Jesus gives us His Flesh and Blood so that He can be in Communion with us. Our Lord desires to be one with, to be in union (com-munion) with you, me, and everybody. At Mass, you see the priest pour some water into the chalice filled with wine. When doing so, the priest prays: “By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity.” St. Cyprian (210-258 AD) writes, “when the water is mingled in the cup with wine, the people are made one with Christ.”

However, for most people, we don’t want communion with God. We only follow after God, like the people in the Gospel, because we want God to give us things. God is like a type of Santa Claus, who is supposed to give me things in life. I read once somewhere that “God is not a ‘Cosmic Concierge’ who lives only to satisfy each and every one of our whims.” Yet, that is how we treat God too often in our life. “God give me this. God give me that.” We seek out God to get things from Him. Our God seeks us out to be close to us, to be in communion with us. The Latin root of communion is communio, meaning "fellowship, mutual participation, or association." The relationship that that Jesus is seeking with us is different than the relationship that we seek from Him. Jesus wants fellowship with us. Our Lord desires to share His Divine life and love with us. He asks the same question that He asked the Twelve earlier. "Do you also want to leave?" Do we stay with Jesus or do we leave Him?

Please pray for the safety of all who serve us in the military. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Good Help, help us with her maternal care, and may St. Joseph pray for us. Vivat Jesus! Live Jesus!

This Sunday, we celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter. The Easter season continues to place before us mysteries beyond this earthly reality and existence. In the Second Reading today, we continue with St. John’s mystical vision that we began last week. Once again, we hear St. John speak about a heavenly city, the new Jerusalem in the Book of Revelation. He talks about his vision of the temple in the heavenly Jerusalem. It is in this temple that God is worshiped. “I saw no temple in the city for its temple is the Lord God almighty and the Lamb.” St. John describes how everything in the heavenly city is centered around the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb in worship. We participate in this

heavenly worship every time we go Mass. The Eucharist is a window into heaven where we get a glimpse of the heavenly liturgy. The Mass is heaven on

earth. The liturgy we celebrate on earth is a mysterious participation in the heavenly liturgy. We do go to heaven when we go to Mass, and this is true of every Mass we attend. The celebration of the Mass is the bridge between heaven and earth.

The great Doctor of the Church, St. Athanasius, who lived 296-373 AD, teaches this about the Mass: "My beloved brethren, it is no temporal feast that we come to, but an eternal, heavenly feast. We do not display it in shadows; we approach it in reality." Moreover, the First Eucharistic Prayer expresses this great truth, when the priest says, "Almighty God, we pray that your angel may take this sacrifice to your altar in heaven. Then, as we receive from this altar the sacred body and blood of your Son, let us be filled with every grace and blessing." It is also evident in the Preface of the Mass. At the end of every Preface, we conclude by saying, "and so we join the angels and the saints in proclaiming your glory as we sing: Holy, Holy, Holy...” Likewise, the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on Sacred Liturgy restates this belief saying, “in the earthly liturgy, by way of foretaste, we share in that heavenly liturgy which is celebrated in the holy city of Jerusalem toward which we journey as pilgrims, and in which Christ is sitting at the right hand of God, a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle" (#8).

The glory God that St. John sees in today’s reading is present to the Church on three levels: the Church Triumphant (those in heaven), the Church Militant (those on earth), and the Church Penitent (those in purgatory). All three parts of the Church are celebrating Mass together. At every Mass, all of heaven, earth, and purgatory are present at Mass. We’re united in Mass. The saints are engaging in intercessory prayer the Church on earth and in purgatory. We hear Jesus say in today’s Gospel that the Father and He “we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.” How is this made possible? Through Holy Communion. Holy Communion on earth is a foretaste of Hoy Communion in heaven, when we will be in union with God (Latin: com- "with, together" + unus "oneness, union). The souls in Purgatory are longing for this heavenly union as they are being purged of the effects of sin, which is why prayer for souls who have died is very important for us to do. Please pray the Litany of Mary everyday throughout the month of May. Have a blessed Memorial Day weekend. Please pray for the souls of all military service men and women, especially those who died in active duty. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Good Help, help us with her prayers and may St. Joseph pray for us. Vivat Jesus! Live Jesus!

ST. JOSEPH CARNIVAL

THURSDAY, MAY 30

TO

SUNDAY, JUNE 2!

SEE YOU THERE!

Wednesday evening we held our graduation ceremony for the class of 2019. Several awards were presented from different organizations. The Archer Road Kiwanis Leadership & Scholarship Award was presented to Christopher Wiatrak. The Ladies of the Rosary presented three awards to acknowledge the service and scholarship of three of our young ladies. Recipients were: Madyn Dron, Nyla Momusse, and Katarzyna Galdyn. The St. Joseph Holy Name Society also presented two awards to acknowledge service and academics. Recipient of the George Koran Service Award was Gabriel Govea, and receiving the Holy Name Award for Academics was Samuel Dudlo.

Thank you to Mrs. Donarski and the St. Joseph Choir for helping us celebrate through their music. It is greatly appreciated and as usual the music was done beautifully.

Registration – Our open enrollment continues. There is financial assistance available through the Caritas Program and our Pastor’s Scholarship. We are particularly interested in enrolling children in our middle and upper grades. Through our title programs we have been able to establish a strong academic program that can meet the needs of all of our children. If you are interested in more information about St. Joseph please call or stop by the school office. I would enjoy speaking to you and giving you a tour of our school. Tours will be available during our Carnival.

Queen of Hearts Raffle –We congratulate Michael and Carol Michaholski, who won $25.00 after their card #11 revealed the 2 of hearts. Our jackpot begins this week at $4,200.00. Tickets are on sale after the Masses, from the school and rectory office. WHO WILL BE OUR NEXT WINNER? Please Help! - This year, opponents want to CUT the Tax Credit Scholarship program in HALF in the state budget. Even worse, the plan would prematurely phase out Tax Credit Scholarships. This budget proposal slashes the program—threatening more than 40,000 kids in line for a scholarship, jeopardizing all 7,178 recipients, and immediately denying at least 742 current recipients, we at St. Joseph had 34 recipients with presently 81 children qualifying. You can help us by contacting your representative and asking them not to allow any cuts to the program. To do this, please go to https://p2a.co/5s66BXA and say yes to SAVING THE TAX CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. Have a great week, see you at the carnival. God Bless. Lawrence Manetti Principal
