Sunday Reflection

A Meditation

Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord, and my Father will love him and we will come to him. -

Jn 14:23

This week, find a peaceful corner at home or church, in a park or your own backyard, and take time to meditate on the beautiful words we're given in the Gospel today, using the ancient prayer known as Lectio Divina. This Latin phrase means "Divine Reading" and it consists of reading scripture (lectio), praying (oratio), meditating, (meditatio) and contemplating (contemplatio). This prayer of the heart helps lead you into God's presence. Begin with a prayer to the Holy Spirit:

Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy, act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work too may

be holy, draw my heart O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy, strengthen me O Holy Spirit to defend all that is holy, guard me then O Holy Spirit, that I always

may be holy. Amen

Read John 14:15-23 aloud, slowly (lectio). Allow the Holy Spirit to quiet your mind and bring you to a place of peace. Consider which line speaks to you most deep-ly, and pray with that scripture (oratio). Let God's word enter your heart. Meditate on what it means for you personally (meditatio). Finally, just remain quiet and listen (contemplatio). God speaks in the silence of our hearts. What does He want to tell you? Be at peace in His presence, and listen for His voice. His Holy Spirit dwells within you; Jesus and the Father love you and promise to remain with you.

At the end of your meditation, pray the Lord 's Prayer slowly, paying attention to each word. The time you spend in prayer will bring refreshment to your soul and strength to face life's many trials. May God bless you with His peace.

WANTED: Parishioners willing to put God’s call to love our neighbor into ACTION.

The local Habitat for Humanity organization has asked Tri-Cities churches to help build a home for a qualifying family. The Christ the King Parish Council and Knights of Columbus have volunteered to help.

CK has signed up to work on the home from Tuesday, June 13 through Saturday, June 17. Hours are from 8:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. You can work every day, or one day; all day or part of a day. You need not have experi-ence or tools! Habitat will provide construction profes-sionals to lead the crew. We hope to provide transporta-tion from CK to the building site in Pasco and back.

We are looking for volunteers who are 16 or older, and are willing to donate prayers, hours, and yes, dollars. Each home costs around $96,000 to build and if you can’t be a builder, but want to contribute, monetary donations will be accepted during sign-up weekends.

The Knights will have a table in the church foyer after Masses this weekend for you to find out more about the build, pick up a volunteer application (all volunteers are subject to a background check), or make a donation. You can also contact Michael or Joann Rung, who will schedule volunteers, at 943-0117/[email protected].

If you are able to provide 12 lunches or morning coffee/snacks each day, please also contact Michael or Joann.

You’ve heard about Habitat for Humanity for years. If you want to get involved, this is the way to start.

Please pick up a registration form at the school office.

Reading/Language Arts (1st -8th) Mathematics (1st -8th) Keyboarding (1st -8th) Disney Drama Camp Extravaganza! Students enter-

ing grades 3 through 5 will be learning and perform-ing scenes from our favorite Disney classics, such as Mulan, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, and Peter Pan! Students will be involved in acting, stage managing and tech, costuming, and makeup all in preparation for a spectacular perfor-mance on our outdoor stage! (2nd session only)

Introductory Latin! Get a linguistic passport to Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Romani-an. CK summer school Latin will focus on Latin translation, not conversational Latin. During the class, students will become familiar with the inflect-ed nature of the Latin language and how to use a summary of Latin forms along with an English/Latin dictionary to begin translating ancient Roman texts. Intense memorization of forms and vocabulary will not be required. The purpose of the class is not only to increase awareness and appreciation of Latin in its own right, but to use Latin as a vehicle for un-derstanding the structure of English and the influ-ence of Latin on our own language. The grammar concepts learned while translating Latin (parts of speech, functions of words in sentences, agreement between verbs and nouns, etc.) are consistent with and support acquisition of basic English grammar skills. (2nd session only)

Algebra Prep! Get a head start in Algebra 1 with this preparation course.. (2nd session only)

Christ the King School has openings for the 2017-2018 school year. Please contact the school office, 946-6158, for more information.

Grant that today we may put aside all friction and jealousy, and show greater concern for the needs of others.

Send into our hearts the spirit of the Gospel, that we may walk in the way of your commandments, today and for ever.

Eternal shepherd, look on your flock as it rises from sleep, feed us with the word of life and the bread from heaven.

Be our great joy that no one can take from us, so that we may reject sin with its sadness, and reach out to eternal life.

Spiritual Practices

Ignatian Spirituality

In a conversation with members of the Jesuit order, Pope Francis said the life situations of everyday Catholics aren’t black and white, but rather vary on a spectrum of gray. Because of this, he stressed the need for the Church to teach seminarians more about spiritual discernment. He cautioned that many priests can’t relate to or accompany the people they counsel, since they haven’t been properly formed. We as lay people also need to be formed in Godly decision making, so that we can learn to make decisions based on where God calls us. Fortunately for us, God, through St. Ignatius, has given us the Spiritual Exercises to teach us discernment.

The Spiritual Exercises begin again in September. We invite you to join us. To learn more about SEEL please visit http://spiritual-exercises.com or find us on Face-book at SEELTC.

Cursillo Leaders school: meets on the third Saturday of the month in our Youth Center, beginning at 9 a.m. and running no later than 11 a.m. Contact Carl Zeamer at 509-943-9991 or Judy Kitchen at 509-628-3428, if you have questions or would like to get involved!

Come Let Us Adore Him “He is the Bread sown in the Virgin, leavened in the Flesh, molded in His Passion, baked in the furnace of the Sepulcher, placed in the Churches, and set upon the Altars, which daily supplies Heavenly Food to the faithful.” -St. Peter Chrysologus

OPEN YOUR HEART AND HOME to two 15-year-old female Catholic exchange students from Spain for the coming 2017-2018 school year. Volunteer host families (with or without children) as well as single parents are needed to provide food, a bed, and a loving home for the coming school year, starting in August. The students have medical insurance, spending money for their personal expenses, and expect to share their host family’s daily life including household responsibili-ties. The students speak English, are well-screened, and eager to experience life in America. Their stay here is sponsored and supervised by EMF (Educational Merit Foundation), a non-profit, educational exchange organi-zation. For more information, please call Marie-Claude Dijoud at 1-800-467-8363 or visit our web site at www.emfusa.org.
