There is great excitement about the Red Carpet Customer Service

training that has been initiated at Oklahoma Methodist Manor for all staff.

Our goal is to treat everyone we serve like STARS. During the day-long training the STARS acronym is emphasized: The S stands for “Sincerely Welcome.” T means “Take Note and Adjust.” A reminds us to “Act with Urgency.” R calls us to “Respond and React.” Finally, the S

is our goal, “Surprise and Delight.”

As part of the program we want to recognize and reward employees who provide STARS treatment. This month we are proud to recognize Dahta Cason and Cherod Swearingen for exemplary customer service.

Cherod has worked at OMM on the Maintenance team for 2 years. He is studying to be a firefighter and recently received his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.

He enjoys interacting with the members of the OMM community and loves fixing things.

From now on we will be recognizing and rewarding employees who provide STARS treatment. We have strategically placed boxes and recognition cards around the community so that staff and community members can report when they observe an employee providing STARS treatment.

Each month, these names will be reviewed by a panel and one or two employees who have provided exemplary customer service will be recognized. Their names and photo, along with a brief article about each, will be included in the monthly Manor Mirror.

Our goal is for Oklahoma Methodist Manor to be known as a provider of exceptional customer service…make that, Red Carpet Customer Service!

THERE ARE STARS AMONG US!

One recent Sunday, as I began to put the finishing touches

on my Sunday Devotions message for that afternoon, I prayed a

simple prayer that I pray often when I am preparing messages or lessons. The prayer was, “Lord, what do You want to tell the people of Methodist Manor?”

I was hoping for some inspiration that would help me wrap up my previous preparations into a meaningful message. Instead, I sensed the Lord responded, “Say to them…

“Never forget, always remember…You are loved, cherished, deeply and dearly loved. This is always the message.Let it always be clear.”

Well, this was not at all a “wrap up” of what I’d been working on. It was rather a different, more pinpointed message. And so, I decided to postpone my intended devotion in order to deliver this one.

As I considered the familiar proclamation “God Loves You,” I realized for me and for so many others, though I’ve heard this and “know” this truth, I often do, in practice, forget it. I live as if God doesn’t love me. Oh, not in the sense that He doesn’t care about me, but rather in the sense that, well, you know, He’s busy! He has a lot of things on His plate. Surely He doesn’t have time to think of me in the midst of running the universe, much less have time to tend to the small matters of my small life.

But this message indicates that you and I are not only “loved,” we are “cherished” and we are “deeply and dearly loved.” And, we are also told this is ALWAYS His message for you and me.

This compels me to consider this…is it possible that everything the Lord has done for you or allowed into your life emanates from His immeasurable love for you and He will see to it that all of it will ultimately work for your good in this life and in the one to come?

The Amplified Version records this writing from the Apostle Paul…

And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us]

causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God,

to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.

So, I encourage you, as you walk through your life one day at a time, one moment, one breath, one heartbeat at a time, may you “Never Forget” and may you “Always Remember”…

“You are loved, cherished, deeply and dearly loved.”

And may this message in your heart “always be clear.”

NEVER FORGET, ALWAYS REMEMBER!BY DUB AMBROSE, CHAPLAIN

Women experience unique health concerns —

pregnancy, menopause, breast cancer, cervical cancer and more. Some health issues that affect

both sexes, can affect women in a different way. For example, women are more likely to die following a heart attack than men. They also are more likely to have depression and anxiety than men.

Most women are trained to be caregivers – from the time they first helped their mothers. Being a care partner to their spouse who may fall ill or have an accident, a mother/grandmother to their children and grandchildren, or chores around their home and church, can lead older women to lose sight of themselves as caregiving became a life-long responsibility. Taking care of their own wellness becomes a “next time” perpetual postponement. Many women are not sure what to do with and for themselves – going and enjoying things they like to do, start an exercise program, or sit down, rest and not get up again unless it’s necessary to do so.

May is National Women’s Health Month, and the 20th annual National Women’s Health Week celebrated on Mother’s Day, May 12 through May 18, 2019. The week is a national effort by several government organizations to raise awareness about manageable steps women can take to improve their health. The focus is on the importance of incorporating simple preventive and positive health behaviors into everyday life:

• Get recommended screenings and preventive care• Get moving• Enjoy a healthy and balanced diet• Prioritize Mental Health• Practice Healthy Behaviors

May 13th is National Women’s Checkup Day, which encourages women to get important checkups and screenings. Women should discuss with their health care professionals which of the tests are right for them, when they should have them, and how often. If you have been putting off your recommended screenings and preventive care until “next time,” National Women’s Checkup Day may be the day to get them done!

OMM has scheduled the following activities for National Women’s Health Month (the men will have their turn in June). You will find more details in the May Calendar Supplement. May 2 – May 30, 9:15 a.m. - Women’s Health Exercise (Tuesdays & Thursdays)May 13, 1:00 p.m. – Women’s Safety CourseMay 21, 11:30 a.m. - Ladies Luncheon Guest Speaker, Kathy TaylorMay 22, 7:00 p.m. – Girls Just Want to Have Fun Pajama PartyMay 24, 2:00-4:00 p.m. - Women’s Health and Creativity

We hope the ladies will take time for themselves this month to initiate or continue their pursuit of women’s health and wellness.

CONVERSATION WITH GOD (2008)BY JOHN C. WESTERVELT

Six mornings a week at an early hour, I pray for family and friends. You might call this

my “serious” prayer time. Since becoming a widower twenty years ago, I carry on a conversation with God and Jesus throughout the day. You could call these my “not-so-serious” prayer moments.

After shaving each morning, I wash my face with a washcloth wrung out from hot water, and it feels good. I say, “Thanks, God, for the steel of the razor and the cotton of the washcloth.”

I enjoy bacon and eggs and toast five mornings a week. With a twist of a knob, the utility company’s generator heats my skillet and my oven broiler. I say, “Thanks, God, for the convenience of my kitchen.”

As I enjoy the taste of a glass of cold orange juice, I say, “Thanks, God, for those who planted the orange trees, for those who nurtured the trees, for the ones who picked the fruit, for the people who processed the oranges, for those who shipped the fruit to my hometown, for the person who put the orange juice on my grocery store freezer shelf, and for the efficiency of each person, so that I can enjoy this glass of orange juice for a quarter.” My companions at breakfast, Asbury’s Daily Bible Reading and Prayer Journal, Asbury’s Acts 29, and Proverbs, bring me joy.

On my volunteer job each morning, I play with Asbury preschool children. Sometimes I hear the voice of God through the children. In the afternoon I write a weekly letter to my family and other stories. I thank God for my computer, which makes it easier to write. On some afternoons, I simply manage my household.

When my arthritic ankle hurts, I say, “Thanks, God, for the ten thousand things that are working well.”

I save my newspaper to read with supper. After a bite of brisket mixed with a bite of baked potato with salt and butter, I close my eyes for a moment and say, “Thanks, God, for taste buds that bring me such pleasure.”

On Saturday morning, I fix pancakes, in part so I’ll not forget how. On this laundry day, I say, “Thanks, God, for my washer and dryer that let me maintain my household with less energy than I once had.” I express my appreciation to God for city water and sewer, electric power, and natural gas.

Having reached age eighty, I am up once or twice during the night. Sometimes I am awakened by a frustrating dream. Awake and in the bathroom, I tell God, “I love reality.” Back in bed with my eyes closed, I ask Jesus to pull up a chair and stay with me until I fall asleep.

These conversations are my attempt to follow Paul’s instructions in I Thessalonians 5:16-18. “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

OMM Book Club will be meeting May 28 at 7:00 PM. in the Fleming Center. Please note

the change of date, due to conflict of another meeting.

Glenda Kilmer who retired from the Tulsa County Library will be reviewing the book “Something Wonderful” Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway Revolution by Todd S. Purdum.

They stand at the apex of the great age of songwriting, the creators of the classic Broadway musicals Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, whose songs have never lost their popularity or emotional power. Even before they joined forces, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II had written dozens of Broadway shows, but together they pioneered a new art form: the serious musical play. Their songs and dance

numbers served to advance the drama and reveal character - - a sharp break from the past and the template on which all future musicals would be built.

Though different in personality and often emotionally distant from each other, Rodgers and Hammerstein presented an unbroken front to the world and forged much more than a songwriting team; their partnership was also one of the most profitable and powerful entertainment businesses of their era. They were cultural powerhouses whose work came to define postwar America on stage, screen, television, and radio.

Todd Purdum presents a skillful, dual biography and very readable account of the Rodgers and Hammerstein partnership.
