Vice President’s

Report President’s Report

Happy Spring Everyone. We finally

have had some incredible days to get

out and do what we love. The sound of

bikes is getting more common. Music

to my ears once again. We all have

been antsy to get out and ride. Ride

safe everyone. Check your bikes out

before you go. Tire pressure especial-

ly, it is so easy for the pressure to de-

crease a little as your ride sits and not

as easy to notice it until you hit that

first corner.

Our rally is right around the cor-

ner. We would appreciate any and all

help with the silent auction. Gathering

items is the most important at this

point. Anything you would like to do-

nate or can pick up to donate would be

greatly appreciated. Let myself or

Janet know please.

We were given an opportunity through

Robbinsdale to donate a very nice

amount of 1605.00 dollars to the Hu-

mane Society of rhe Black Hills recent-

ly. The money was raised through

Robbinsdale's Sexy Bingo they do on

Wednesday nights. I definitely en-

joyed presenting that to the Humane

Society.

Other than that, it is pretty much time

for us to do what we love, Ride and

Fight for our right to ride. So on that

note, PLAY HARD AND RIDE

SAFE!!!!!

Chaplain’s Corner

(A very dear dear friend of mine, Pastor, and riding brother, wrote this article and offered it as a Chaplains Corner for this

month so with his permission here it is in it's entirety. Auggie)

From Bob Bogart, Pastor Capitol Heights Baptist Church Pierre, President CMA Missouri River Riders Pierre SD.

I am writing a devotion every day this year and when I wrote this one, I thought of you and your ministry.

Psalm 1:2. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.

I like motorcycles. I dream of long motorcycle excursions. I’m talking about the cross-America type excursion. Such a ride

would probably do me in since I’m no longer a young man, but I still dream about such things. I read motorcycle touring maga-

zines about people who have attempted and succeeded in similar ventures. I peruse their routes and examine carefully their pur-

chased gear. I then make mental comparisons as to whether my gear and my machine would stand up to such a trip. I even

compare the age of the travelers with mine and generously conclude, “I can do that!” I get a lot of enjoyment out of imagined

bike trips and just tinkering in the garage with my motorcycle. The enjoyment of my life may be motorcycles but the joy of my

life is Jesus. My joy is mediating upon the Word of God. Seriously. I’m not trying to be some super-religious type. Honest-

ly! I love the Lord and his Word. He is my all-encompassing joy. Trips and machines and gear will all, one day, fall into de-

cay. Even our aging bodies are in a state of collapse. All the tangible things with which we adorn our lives will eventually be

gone, yet the Word of God remains forever. I’ve discovered to view possessions as nothing more than transient worth. See, not

only is our tangible worth transient it’s also depreciative. The wise king, Solomon, once spoke of enjoying life but always with

moderation – never to excess. In the New Testament, Paul reminds us that even athletes exercises self-control. Let’s set right

priorities. The trinkets of this world neither compare nor compliment the treasures which God has in store for his people. I still

enjoy motorcycling and the prospects of, one day, completing a long desired journey but the clock is ticking. Yet this above all,

whatever I choose to do, I choose unto the Lord. Riding on two-wheels or residing on two-feet, either way, my joy is in Jesus.

Until next month Ride safe and Ride often.

In His service,

Auggie and Sunshine.

~Leaders listen to new ideas from new younger members~Fight for our future now; Reach out or we will die ou

What’s going on in the Heartland States.

ABATE of Iowa—Algona tickets are available online; the headliner is still to be announced, but you will not be disappointed! ABATE of South

Dakota—Historical License Plates – Vintage license plates can now be used on vehicles used less than 10k miles per year; Profiling bill

HB1111 defeated in Senate; We need more people to show up at SD State Capitol to show strength when we oppose a bill.

ABATE of North Dakota—Providing online rider classes; Working with Drivers Education of North Dakota

ABATE of Wisconsin—Working with DOT and Rider ED to provide Experienced Rider Course; Share the Road Program in schools has been

successful; The new website is online, has a few growing pains tho’; Social Media Presence is important; Everybody convicted of Right of Way

Violation now pays a large fine, if the Violation ends in death or severe injury they will get jail time 23 new Right of Way Violations were add-

ed to the existing list; Working on “Black Box Bill” (Vehicle Data Recorder) to ensure the information gathered is protected by our Privacy

Rights; Autocycle Bill to specify that Autocycles ARE NOT Motorcycles; Watching for profiling of motorcyclists.

ABATE of Illinois—Keeping an eye on Ethanol bills, opposed to E20, and on the profiling situation in Ill.; Autonomous cars bill was intro-

duced regarding accidents because they have to go through Consumer Protection which can take up to 9 years to go through the court system

when someone is injured or killed by autonomous vehicle.; Study proved that autonomous cars radar does not recognize pedestrians and motor-

cycles and other obstacles often enough; Motorcyclists have been harassed by police and ticketed for speeding because police claimed the noise

he motorcycle made clearly evident they were traveling above the speed limit.

ABATE of Nebraska—Previous year had 22 fatalities, were able to get money from state for motorcycle awareness which may have contributed

to the drop in fatalities for the current year.

ABATE of Minnesota—Helmet free, blue dot ok, high handlebars ok, great place to ride; Not in favor of hands free cel phone bill which is go-

ing through the House right now; Profiling is evident in MN and police are doing in a way that leaves no paper trail, Bill was introduced this

year that may have had an affect and stopped that practice, no mention of helmet bill this year; Lane changing is still up in the air; Trouble with

new license plate renewal system that was put in place this year.

Highlights from Breakout Sessions

Basic Strategic Planning And After Action Reports

*Why – Don’t trust organization’s future to luck, to achieve new standards in performance, meet and exceed the needs of the membership

*How – Frequent reviews of what is or isn’t working, scan for trends, assess strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats, discuss progress

and future direction

*Through – Good leadership and a good tactical team, utilizing technology, getting members involved, respond to changing needs and trends.

*Basic Strategic Planning is – Determining what you want to achieve, when you want to achieve it, and if members and leaders are all commit-

ted to the plan, what steps will we take, who is responsible and what will be the regular review schedule.

*After Action Reports – After Action Reports are done to see what went right or wrong with an event to fix or improve an event and should be

done within a week of the event. Important questions to ask on an AAR would be: What worked well and what needs improvement and ranking

those answers on a scale of 1- 10 as to 1 is poor performance and 10 great performance. Use this as a guideline to creating ideas of how to im-

prove the performance of each poorly rated task done during the event.

*MRF’s Relationship with SMRO’s and update on achievements Megan Ekstrom

~Serves as voice of SMRO in Washington DC ~MRF is “preemption” to prevent federal gov’t from overriding state’s rights ~Eyes and ears in

DC ~Many agencies are out to get us (safety groups, EPA, AAA, and more) ~Motorcycles were left out of Autonomous vehicle discussion until

MRF was able to get language introduced into bill to include motorcycles- safety report must disclose how autonomous vehicles will respond to

motorcycles if the bill passes. ~We need to change the debate on motorcycles to include that we are a legitimate form of transportation, NOT a

dangerous recreational activity, and REAL stakeholder in the discussion of motorcycle safety in the future.

Lunch, Hospitality Room, Fund Raiser Games, Banquet and Auction

*Lunch on Saturday went well with tasty sandwiches, soft drinks and chips, Gluten free salads were on hand for those on a special diet.*The

Hospitality room was (always is) a big hit. People gather there to talk with old friends and make new ones. People share information laughs and

experiences and many times work out solutions to problems during these informal gatherings.

*Several fun fund raiser games were going on Saturday evening. Dart poker, (played with cards rather than a dart board) drew a good sized

crowd of participants and players and a spinoff on the “Minute to Win It” game was going on in another room down the hall. Everyone had a

great time you could hear laughter all the wall down the hallways.

*The banquet line stretched out around the room and down the hallway a ways but moved quickly and the food was good.

*The Silent Auction was as usual a huge success with many great items to bid on as was the Live Auction. The Auctioneer was a lot of fun and

kept the crowd rolling with laughter and kept the bids going higher but not letting things lag or take too long. It was fun and exciting.

Closing Thoughts

I’ve been to a few Heartland Steam Conferences and I’ve enjoyed each one for many reasons but mostly these conferences not only keep me

informed and teach me how to be a better (more active) member but they motivate me to try new things and do what I can to help us all in our

fight for our freedom and safety.

I’ve been very impressed with the work that the VP of Gov’t Affairs and Public Relations Meagan Ekstrom has been doing, however, when I

saw her speak in person and saw her passion and her knowledge and dedication to the MRF I was blown away. We have a spectacular voice in

Washington DC and that is Megan Ekstrom!

My takeaway from this conference is that we have to unify with all types of riders. Reach out to all even those that don’t ride because they may

still have a similar interest in keeping our freedoms, they may decide to ride someday and because strength is found in numbers and the more

people interact with others the better the chance of coming up with new ideas for saving the future of motorcycling.

HARDTAIL TO BE INDUCTED IN HALL OF FAME

WASHINGTON, DC – The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame recently issued an announcement confirming the incoming class of

the 2018 Hall of Fame-ers. Each year, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame recognizes individuals or groups who have made a

long-term, positive impact on the motorcycle community. This year’s class is noteworthy and diverse featuring artisans and craftsmen, phil-

anthropic organizations and several women; all who have made an impact in the world of motorcycling. However, this year, a special award

category, designated as The Freedom Fighter Award, was identified. The recipient for 2018 is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and

President of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, Kirk “Hardtail” Willard.

Hardtail, as he is known in the motorcycle rights world, is spoken upon with the highest regard from riders representing all walks of life.

From the aftermarket industry and original equipment manufacturers to the motorcycle clubs and state motorcycle rights’ organizations, he

is known as a force to be reckoned with. Logging thousands upon thousands of miles on his motorcycles, his objectives have always stayed

pure; to promote and preserve motorcycle riders’ freedoms and lifestyle. He has done just this not only locally in his home state of Wiscon-

sin, but nationally and internationally through his work with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation.

. . .

Mr. Willard will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 78th Sturgis Rally set for August 3-12, 2018. A breakfast and ceremony

in honor of the inductees will take place at 9am on Wednesday, August 9. Tickets are available online at https://www.sturgismuseum.com/

Hall-of-Fame-Banquet-Tickets or interested parties can be invited to sit at a table purchased by the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and
