Living Stewardship Now One day God noticed a racket going on around a man in Italy. He was hammering and Chiseling stone as if something were alive inside and he was labor-ing to free it. “Michelangelo, what are you doing?” said God. “I am setting you free, Lord, so everyone will recognize you in this stone, as well as everyone who suffers a violent, unjust death. I don’t want peo-ple to forget what you did for us.” The Lord replied to Michelangelo: ”In times past I stayed in many dif-ferent places. I don’t remember living in that stone you’re working on.” “lord” said the sculptor, “when your Son came to us, he left your Holy Spirit every-where; we have to search it out, discover it and re-veal it to others.” The Lord was pleased with Michel-angelo’s answer and left him to chip away. Slowly, very slowly, the sculptor set free the figure of a wom-an holding the body of her dead son in her lap. “Genuine sacred art draws man to adoration, to prayer, and to the love of God, Crea-tor and Savior, the Holy One and Sanctifier” ~Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2505

Liturgy Question of the Week Are we required to tithe? As cited in the Catechism (No. 2043), ... each person has the duty to support the material needs of the Church. Of course a person fulfills this obligation according to his or her abilities. The Code of Canon Law also states, "The Christian faithful are obliged to assist with the needs of the Church so that the Church has what is necessary for divine worship, for apostolic works, and works of charity, and for the decent sustenance of ministers" (No. 222)… Such tithing recognizes that God has graciously bestowed blessings upon us, and we in return offer a thanksgiving sacrifice of the "first fruits." For more information on tithing, the entire article by Fr. William Saunders can be found at http://www.catholicherald.com/Faith/Your_Faith/Straight_Answers/Straight_Answers__Are_We_Required_to_Tithe_/

Congratulations Troop 172! Approximately 500 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venturers, and American Heritage Girls attended Diocese of Charlotte's annual Catholic Camporee. The culminating Mass was celebrated by Bishop Jugis. For the second time in two years, the Werewolf Patrol of Boy Scout Troop 172 won the best overall Boy Scout patrol award. The Troop leadership; Senior Patrol Leader James Johnson, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Jalen Carter, and Patrol Leader Elijah Wylie and their adult leaders, Mr. Octavious Carter - Scoutmaster and Mr. Dwayne Duncan - Assistant Scoutmaster, are to be commended for this honor. Congratulations!
Gym Floor Reminder We have recently had some damage to our wonderful new gym floor. PLEASE remember to be extra conscientious
when using the gym. It is critical when moving the tables and chairs that nothing is dragged across the floor (including trash bags). Dragging causes marks and is chipping the lines for the basketball court. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our gym beautiful
for many years to come.
Reflection THE WAY Today we sense the apostles’ trepidation as they begin to realize that the Lord would soon be leaving them. In their fear, they ask, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” (John 14:5). Jesus tells them that he is the way. The Easter season has been a time of growing in Easter faith so that we, too, may learn to know that Jesus is the way. We can take comfort in the Lord’s promise that he is going to his Father’s house to prepare a place for us, his chosen people who have been called out of darkness into God’s wonderful light. As the paschal candle continues to burn during this holy season, let us remember that in baptism we were given the light of Christ. With Christ our light as the beacon lighting our way, let us march toward the glory of Pentecost.
