The reading from Acts shows how the early community

responded creatively to crises as they arose. When the

numbers made it impossible for the apostles to do the

table ministry, others were chosen for that service. We

are a community first. We are all bound together, and

we depend upon one another. So it must be with our ef-

forts at evangelization. We must look at our communi-

ty—who has what gifts—and then find ways that each

member can use his or her gifts in the service of the en-

tire community. Some people will be able to articulate

the faith to inquirers; others are gifted at making people

feel welcome and connecting them with others; others

find their calling in work and might organize and per-

form service projects for the larger community as a sign

of Christ in society.

Evangelization has many different facets and dimen-

sions. It is not just a matter of knocking on doors, or

preaching on street corners. Let us come together and

discern the ways in which Christ might be made present

in our society and then distinguish which of our mem-

bers’ talents will help us accomplish these tasks.

La lectura de Hechos muestra cómo la comunidad

primitiva respondió creativamente a las crisis a me-

dida que surgían. Cuando los números hicieron im-

posible que los apóstoles hicieran el ministerio de

mesa, otros fueron elegidos para ese servicio. Somos

una comunidad primero. Todos estamos unidos y

dependemos unos de otros. Así debe ser con nues-

tros esfuerzos de evangelización.

. Debemos mirar a nuestra comunidad, quién tiene

qué dones, y luego encontrar formas en que cada

miembro pueda usar sus dones al servicio de toda la

comunidad. Algunas personas podrán articular la fe

a los indagadores; otros están dotados para hacer

que las personas se sientan bienvenidas y conectar-

las con otros; otros encuentran su vocación en el tra-

bajo y pueden organizar y realizar proyectos de ser-

vicio para la comunidad en general como un signo

de Cristo en la sociedad.

La evangelización tiene muchas facetas y dimen-

siones diferentes. No se trata solo de tocar puertas o

de predicar en las esquinas.

Unámonos y disciernamos las formas en que Cristo

podría hacerse presente en nuestra sociedad y luego

distingamos cuál de los talentos de nuestros miem-

bros nos ayudará a cumplir estas tareas.
