The logo

The majority of bands and musical artist have logos and series of designs that feature on their albums, websites, advertisements and merchandise as well as anything else that may be related to the band. Logos are an important part of branding as they help the consumer to become familiar with the artist and be able to recognise the products that they create. Considering that I have chosen to create a website and magazine advertisement for my ancillary texts I have decided to create my own logo design for my chosen artist ‘MAUSI’ as I feel that this will be an effective addition to my promotional package.

The next slide features logos from existing artists, some of which are very similar to my chosen artist in style and genre. From my research of existing products I have found that many logos take on a fairly simplistic design with distinct lines and shapes. Many of the logos feature the name of the band in a minimalist form, I think this design is effective as the logos can easily be placed over images such as the most recent album art of the musicians. Using a simplistic design also means that they can feature easily on websites without clashing with colours or other shapes.

Below are the initial logos that I designed for my band, I decide to place white text over a an image which was inspired by their original logo. I chose the background images according to the themes of my music video including grass, a lake and a train station as I felt this was able to make a nice link between the band and my final product that I have created in their name .

After completing this logo set I began to view them as preliminary logos as I felt the they did not look as professional as I wanted them to. I also felt that they did not have the simplistic, graphic design as showcased by my research into existing products. Once realising this I decided to create a new set of logos which will be used and feature as a part of both my ancillary text

I was unsure of where to start when making my logo so before I began I sketched out some potential designs so that I could then work from them when making the logo on my computer

After developing my designs I was much more pleased with the way that these logos look, I feel that they come across as more professional as they are more similar to the ones that I researched in design and shape. The fact I made them to be transparent images allows me to place them over other images. From my preliminary logos I liked the idea of included images that related to my music video.

In as I progress further into my ancillaries I will have to chose which of the three logos I would like to use for the final ancillary texts.

The next slide shows how these logos will look once they have been placed over an image.

Here I have taken I screen shot of MAUSI’s website, pasted my logo design and placed in at the top of their already existing logo. I did this just to see how it would look along side other images.
