We talk, laugh, and just have a fun time!” The names in the story were replaced. Monopoly, Yahtzee and Life are registered trademarks of Hasbro Brands.

Always laughing. That’s how we describe this cozy family of three. Despite great odds, Albert, Layla and Albert Jr. have persisted Albert arrived at the Cathedral Center looking for a fresh start at a new life. Welcome to the Family!______________________________________________________________________________________________________FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - DONNA RONGHOLT-MIGAN

I have been contemplating the meaning of ‘family’ lately. My niece just got married and her husband is now part of the family – but he really was family long before the wedding. I have a long-time friend who my children call “Auntie”.

What makes a family – a family? I am of the mind and heart that says family is who is there for you – who helps you to grow and succeed. Family supports you when you are down – in whatever way support needs to be defined. Family sets limits and sets you free when you need to learn things on your own. Family rejoices with you in celebration and cries with you in sadness – offering hugs in all cases. Family is made up of people who raised you, were raised by you, were in grade school with you, who connected with you even though you just met. Family is grown through birth and marriage and experience and exploration. I recently participated in a meeting where there was a bit of Cathedral Center history in the room – former board members, new volunteers and staff members came together to plan for the development of a Cathedral Center friends group. What we realized, though, is that we don’t have to look far to find our membership. We already have hundreds of committed friends,

beginning with the 15-year history that sat around the table that morning – people who are key components of the Cathedral Center’s success and growth. Family. Shortly afterward, I received an email from one of our closest friends, Hugh McManus - our first board president - and his wife Katie, who had both been at the meeting. I could not possibly say it any better myself. Any celebration of 15 years at CCI surely points to the many successes that need to be recognized: the women who have moved to independence – and the children who thrive in their care; the staff and volunteers who served these women and families – and facilitated their transformation. During CCI’s first 15 years, a band of committed volunteers generously served – they are the friends and family who have already formed around the sacred work of CCI. These folks have offered time, talent, and treasure to ensure the success of the CCI initiative over that course of its 15-year history. For this reason, we believe that the “friends and family” group already exists at CCI. So, while we must ask you to stay tuned for further information on our newly formed Friends and Family group – I do want to say, “Welcome to the Family!”
