The Frogs are opening conference play with back-to-back games against ranked teams for the first time in program history. TCU will face all four of the Big 12’s ranked teams in its first five league games, with three of those games coming on the road. The only game against a team currently unranked is against one-loss Oklahoma State. The Frogs lost their opener, 83-61, to WVU at home on Thursday. TCU dug a hole early with poor shooting and turnovers and trailed by 36 points in the third quarter. TCU, however, built some momentum with a good fourth quarter. TCU held WVU to 0-of-8 shooting in the fourth and outscored the Mountaineers, 22-10. Amy Okonkwo led TCU with 17 points on Thursday, her fifth straight game in double figures. Okonkwo is TCU’s leading scorer with 12.3 points per game and is also the only Big 12 player to rank in the league’s top 10 in field goal, 3-point and free throw percentage. Kianna Ray added 14 points and a career-best 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. The true freshman has started every game and averages 26.8 minutes per game, the second most by a freshman in the Big 12. AJ Alix scored 11 points thanks in large part to her eighth game this season with at least three 3-pointers. The Frogs hit 8-of-17 from deep and upped their season percentage to 44.3 percent from long range, the best mark in the country. TCU averages 8.4 made 3-pointers per game, the second best mark in the Big 12. TCU will be looking for its first win in Norman. The Frogs are 0-12 all-time on the road against the Sooners and 4-19 overall against Oklahoma. TCU is 1-7 against Oklahoma since joining the Big 12 in 2012-13. 2016-17 TCU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES

3

TOUGH OPENING SLATE ▪ TCU is facing a very tough schedule to open Big 12 play

as the Frogs will play all four of the conference’s ranked teams in their first five games. TCU will play three of the four ranked teams on the road and the other game in the five-game stretch is against one-loss Oklahoma State.

MOVING THE BALL ▪ TCU’s 18.8 assists per game rank second in the Big 12

and 13th in the NCAA. TCU has posted at least 17 assists in all eight of its wins, including 22 or more in six. ▪ TCU started the season with at least 22 assists in

each of its first four games. TCU’s game-by-game stats are readily available beginning with the 1999-2000 season, and since then the Frogs have never had even three straight games with 20-plus assists. ▪ The Frogs enter Sunday assisting on 69.9 percent of

their made field goals, the best mark in the Big 12. In fact, only four Big 12 teams are assisting on over 60 percent of their baskets (TCU 69.9; Baylor 67.2; Kansas State 64.4; Iowa State 60.5).

SHARP SHOOTERS ▪ TCU is shooting 44.3 percent as a team from deep, the

best mark in the NCAA. ▪ The Frogs 8.4 makes from long range are second in the

Big 12 and rank 25th in the NCAA. TCU has made at least six 3-pointers in every game with its 6-of-11 effort at No. 1 Notre Dame marking the fewest makes and attempts. ▪ The Frogs currently have three players in the Big 12’s top

seven in 3-point percentage, including the league leader in Amy Okonkwo at 60.0 percent (12-of-20).

CONTINUING THE TREND ▪ TCU’s 3-point shooting prowess is nothing new, last

season, TCU shot 39.1 percent as a team, the sixth best mark in Big 12 history, and the best in over a decade.

DEFENSIVE START ▪ The Frogs have started the season with some great

defensive efforts as all of their defensive trends are above that of last season. ▪ TCU is holding teams to 34.5 percent shooting, ranking

25th in the NCAA. The Frogs 6.3 blocks per game is third in the Big 12 and 13th in the NCAA. ▪ In its opener, TCU held UIW to 19.6 percent (11-of-56)

shooting for the seventh best effort in program history. TCU then held Sam Houston State to 15.7 percent (8-of-51) for the program’s third best effort.

#12/12 WEST VIRGINIA 83TCU 61

TCU started slow and couldn’t recover in an 83-61 loss to No. 12 West Virginia to open Big 12 play at Schollmaier Arena on Thursday night.

TCU (8-4, 0-1) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end while West Virginia (13-0, 1-0) remained the Big 12’s only undefeated team.

The Frogs scored a season-low seven points in the first quarter as WVU built a double-digit lead early. That lead grew to 36 points late in the third quarter before TCU chipped into it in the fourth quarter.

Amy Okonkwo led the Frogs with 17 points and eight rebounds. Kianna Ray added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Tynice Martin had 21 points and six steals to lead WVU while Chania Ray added 17 points, nine assists and six steals.

Southern Utah in its final non-conference games in 2015-16. ▪ The Frogs are 37-10 at home overall under Raegan Pebley. That record includes games played in

the University Recreation Center while Schollmaier Arena was under construction. ▪ TCU’s loss to Texas A&M snapped a streak of 21 straight home wins against unranked

opponents. The Frogs have won 44 of their last 46 home games against unranked opponents, with the other loss coming to Oklahoma in 2013-14. ▪ All-time, TCU is 349-204 at home, including a 59-23 mark since joining the Big 12 in 2012-13.

▪ Oklahoma (10-3, 1-0) opened Big 12 play with an 84-54 win at Kansas on Thursday. The Sooners were ranked as high as No. 12 earlier this season, but losses to No. 17 Kentucky, Oral Roberts and No. 20 Cal have dropped Oklahoma to No. 24 entering Big 12 play. ▪ The Sooners forced opponents into 20.7 turnovers per

game, tops in the Big 12, while their 11.5 steals also lead the league. Maddie Manning leads the Big 12 with 3.0 steals per game and is also 12.8 points per game, just behind Payton Little at 12.9 for the team lead. ▪ Oklahoma is 6-1 at home this season with the lone

loss coming to Oral Roberts. The Sooners last played at the Lloyd Noble Center on Dec. 11 and have played four straight away from home.

SERIES ▪ Oklahoma leads the all-time series against TCU, 19-4,

including a 7-1 mark since TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012-13. TCU’s lone win in that span came at home in 2013-14. ▪ TCU is 0-12 all-time in Norman.

CONNECTIONS ▪ TCU assistant coach Britney Brown played at

Oklahoma from 2003-07. Brown was All-Big 12 honorable mention as a junior and helped OU to the NCAA Sweet 16 as a junior and senior.

2016-17 TCU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES

4

BUTTS GOOD WORKS NOMINEE ▪ TCU senior Jada Butts was named a 2017 Allstate

WBCA Good Works Team nominee. ▪ Butts and her family have created the Aubree Butts

Leadership Foundation. It is in honor of her older sister, Aubree, who was a basketball player at Texas A&M-Commerce that was killed in a car accident in June 2014. The foundation is an endowment for scholarships for students from Lewisville High School and Westside Baptist Church that have the characteristics that Aubree embodied. ▪ Through the foundation, Butts and her family give three

$500 scholarships annually. They also support the Lewisville High School non-profit “Community in School” which gives financial support for rent and groceries to students whose parents are deceased or in desperate need. ▪ Butts also organized a basketball camp to raise money

for the foundation. The camp was held at Lewisville High School where college and professional athletes provided skills instruction to middle school and high school girls and boys basketball players. All proceeds from the camp went to the Aubree Butts Leadership Foundation.

BUTTS’ CAREER YEAR ▪ Jada Butts comes in as TCU’s third leading scorer at

10.0 points per game. She has scored in double figures in five games, including a season-best 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting against Texas A&M. ▪ Not only is Butts leading the Frogs in scoring, she is also

second in assists and shooting the ball extremely well from all over the floor. Here is a look at her senior year stats compared to her first three seasons as a Frog.

IMPACT TRANSFER ▪ Amy Okonkwo, a sophomore transfer from USC, has

made a big impression in her first few games as a Frog. She is the Frogs leading scorer (12.3/g) and is also second on the team in rebounding (5.7/g). ▪ Okonkwo has been efficient in her offensive efforts as

she is the only Big 12 player in the league’s top 10 in field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and free throw percentage. ▪ She is leading the Big 12 in 3-point percentage at 60.0

percent (12-of-20) on the season. Okonkwo was 0-of-5 from 3-point range as a freshman at USC in 2014-15.

OKONKWO’S DOUBLE-DOUBLES ▪ Okonkwo started her TCU career with 21 points, 10

rebounds and four assists against UIW. She followed that performance up with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals against Sam Houston State.

▪ Okonkwo is the first Frog with back-to-back doubles since Starr Crawford accomplished the feat against BYU and Utah on February 9 and February 12, 2011. She is the first Frog with double-doubles in her first games with TCU since Sandora Irvin did so as a freshman in 2001-02. ▪ Okonkwo was the only Big 12 player with a double-double

in each of her team’s first two games of the season.

OKONKWO GOES PERFECT ▪ Amy Okonkwo led TCU with 18 points against Grambling

on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the field. Her eight shots without a miss broke the TCU record. ▪ The previous record was 7-of-7 held by Delisa Gross

against San Diego State in 2011 and Ashley Davis against Colorado State in 2007.

MOORE PROTECTING PAINT ▪ Jordan Moore leads TCU and ranks seventh in the Big 12

with 1.8 blocks per game. She has at least one block in nine straight games and has 76 career blocks, already the fourth most in TCU history for the sophomore. ▪ Her 58 blocks and 1.76 per game last season ranked fifth

in the Big 12, and first among freshmen. Moore’s 58 blocks were the eighth most in a single season in TCU history, and the second most by a freshman, behind only Sandora Irvin who finished her career as the NCAA’s all-time leading shot blocker. ▪ Below is TCU’s career blocks leaders.

NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP ▪ TCU coaches and players have raved about Jordan

Moore’s improved conditioning, and it has helped the sophomore center turn in some consistent performances. ▪ Moore was the only Frog to score in double figures in

each of season’s first three games. She also recorded a career-best 11 rebounds against SMU for her first career double-double and has since tied a career-high with 16 points against Texas A&M ▪ The Round Rock, Texas native is ninth in the Big 12 in

field goal percentage at 58.1 percent (43-of-74) this season. She is 16th in the league in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game. Moore is also averaging 9.5 points per game. Here is a look at her stats as a sophomore and a freshman.

2016-17 TCU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES

5

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK...TWICE ▪ A pair of TCU freshmen have been honored by the Big

12 this season with Amber Ramirez earned Freshman of the Week honors on December 5 and Mikayla Christian earning the same award on December 27. ▪ Ramirez averaged 12.5 points per game that week,

including 19 against Butler with 5-of-8 made from deep. Christian had a very similar 19 points with 5-of-7 from deep against Alcorn State to earn her award. ▪ Ramirez was the first Frog to earn the award since

Zahna Medley, TCU’s all-time leading scorer, was Freshman of the Week four times in 2012-13. ▪ Ramirez and Christian join Lauren Cox and Natalie Chou

of Baylor as the only teammates to earn the award this year.

RAMIREZ FROM DEEP ▪ Ramirez has been a big part of TCU’s deep threat, hitting

at least one 3-pointer in every game of her career thus far. ▪ Ramirez, who came to TCU as the nation’s 11th-ranked

recruit, is sixth in the Big 12 with 2.5 made 3-pointers per game. That mark is the best among freshmen. ▪ She is shooting 51.3 percent from deep, the 11th best

mark in the NCAA. She is third in the Big 12 and first among freshmen. ▪ Ramirez has two double-figure scoring games this

season, and they have come over her last three games. She dropped 19 with five 3-pointers against Butler, and most recently had 12 with four 3-pointers against Texas A&M. ▪ Last year at the McDonald’s All-American game, Ramirez

won the 3-Point Shootout at Powerade Jamfest and also won the Legends and Stars Shootout, hitting a half court shot to win contest for team that included retired WNBA star Candice Wiggins.

NEARING 3-POINT RECORDS ▪ In its 76-67 win over SMU, TCU was firing on all

cylinders from deep, hitting 15-of-25 3-pointers in the game. ▪ The 15 made 3-pointers tied for the second most in TCU

program history, just behind the school-record 17 that TCU made in a four-overtime win over East Carolina in 2004. ▪ Against SMU, the Frogs hit their first nine 3-pointers,

nearly match an NCAA record. The national record of 11 consecutive made 3-pointers is actually held by the Frogs who did so against Lamar in 1996. ▪ TCU’s 15 made 3-pointers against the Mustangs are the

most in the Big 12 this season.

TOE-TO-TOE WITH #1 ▪ The final score of TCU’s game at No. 1 Notre Dame is

very misleading. The Frogs lost, 92-59, but were down just two points, 49-47, with 5:24 to go in the third quarter. ▪ Through that time, roughly the first 25 minutes of the

game, TCU was shooting 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the field against the top-ranked Irish. ▪ However, the Frogs went on to miss their next 13 field

goals over a 12-minute span that ended on an AJ Alix 3-pointer with 3:39 to go in the game.

PEBLEY GETS 200 ▪ TCU head coach Raegan Pebley won her 200th career

game in TCU’s 95-39 win over Alcorn State. ▪ Pebley became the sixth of the 10 active Big 12 coaches

to reach the 200-win plateau, despite being the second youngest of the 10. ▪ The Colorado graduate and standout collected 110 wins

in nine seasons at Utah State, 46 in two seasons at Fresno State and has 44 in her third season at TCU. ▪ With 44 wins at TCU, Pebley has the fourth most in

program history, just ahead of Mike Petersen who took three full seasons (1996-99) to get to 42 wins. 56 wins at TCU would get Pebley into third place with Kenneth Davis who won 56 in four seasons (1979-83).

YOUNG ROSTER ▪ TCU’s roster in 2016-17 features eight freshmen and

sophomores, tying with Iowa State and Kansas for tops in the Big 12. ▪ The Frogs also have just two seniors, a mark that also

ties for the fewest Big 12. ▪ In total, TCU’s roster has won 13 letters with the Frogs,

another number that ties with Oklahoma State and Texas Tech for the second fewest in the Big 12. Only West Virginia with 11 combined letters has less experience returning on its team.

FRESH FIVE ▪ TCU’s group of five freshmen come to Fort Worth as the

highest-rated recruiting class in TCU history. The Frogs’ class was ranked as high as ninth in the nation by two major recruiting services.

▪ The Frogs class features four guards from Texas and one post player from Australia.

RAMIREZ WITH USA BASKETBALL ▪ Freshman Amber Ramirez is coming off of a busy

summer that included winning two medals with USA Basketball. ▪ First, Ramirez was the captain of USA Basketball’s U18

3x3 World Championships Team that took a silver medal at the FIBA World Championships in Kazakhstan. ▪ Ramirez then won a gold medal with the USA Basketball

U18 National Team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships in Chile. In that tournament, Ramirez averaged 10.8 points int the USA’s five games, all wins by at least 20 points.

November 30 / Schollmaier Arena / Fort Worth, Texas

TCU was locked into a battle for three quarters, but eventually its 3-point shooting made up for some sloppy play in a 73-47 win over Butler on Wednesday afternoon at Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (5-1) hit 11-of-23 from long range in front of a crowd of 3,769 that was mostly Fort Worth ISD students. Those 3-pointers, along with a great second half defensive effort, allowed the Frogs to overcome 20 turnovers. TCU outscored Butler (2-4) 28-8 in the fourth quarter of a game that was very close for three quarters.

Amber Ramirez led the Frogs with 19 points, including 5-of-8 from deep. The freshman hit double figures for the first time this season, and hit a 3-pointer for the sixth time in as many games.

December 8 / Schollmaier Arena / Fort Worth, Texas

TCU dropped its first home contest of the season on Thursday, falling to Texas A&M, 75-67, in a very physical game at Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (5-3) got a season-high 19 points from Jada Butts on 7-of-10 shooting while three Frogs scored in double figures. Danni Williams led Texas A&M (6-2) with 19 points of her own on 5-of-15 shooting.

The Frogs led by three points after the first quarter, but shot under 30 percent in the second as Texas A&M built a 38-30 halftime lead. The Aggies built the lead up to 12 points early in the third quarter, but the Frogs fought back in spurts and had life late in the game.

Butts hit a 3-pointer with 3:06 to go that got the Frogs within five, 66-61, but from there Texas A&M went 8-of-9 at the free throw line to put the game away.

December 11 / Schollmaier Arena / Fort Worth, Texas

TCU trailed for most of the game, but made clutch plays late and came from behind to beat McNeese, 74-70, at Schollmaier Arena on Sunday.

TCU (6-3) was down by nine points early in the fourth quarter, but just two minutes later tied the game, and from there the game was a back-and-forth affair.

With the score tied, 70-70, and under a minute to go, Kianna Ray drove the baseline and scored the go-ahead layup with 37 seconds remaining. McNeese (4-4) then ran the clock down, but with two seconds on the shot clock, and nine on the game clock, AJ Alix blocked Caitlin Davis’ potential go-ahead 3-pointer to seal the game.

December 29 / Schollmaier Arena / Fort Worth, Texas
