JUST TCU, THANK YOU! Though the TCU Department of Athletics is a proud and integral part of Texas Christian University, it desires to be recognized simply as TCU (acronym only) Athletics. Therefore, we respectfully urge that the universitys teams be identified with an appropriate appellation TCU. In subsequent references of the same presentation, the team may be referred to by nickname Horned Frogs. A shorter version of the nickname, Frogs, is acceptable in later usage.

NCAA COMPLiANCE RULES Under NCAA rules, an extra benefit is any special arrangement by an institutional employee or a rep-resentative of the institution's athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete's relative or friend a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation. Receipt of a benefit by student-athletes or their relatives or friends is not a violation of NCAA legislation if it is demonstrated that the same benefit is available to the institution's general student body or their relatives or friends, or to a particular segment of the student body (e.g., foreign students, minority students, etc.) determined on a basis unrelated to athletics ability. Always remember to ASK BEFORE YOU ACT. If you have further questions regarding extra benefits or any other compliance issue, please consult the Compliance Office at 817-257-6899.

In addition, Frog fans can follow the games by listening to the KTCU radio broadcasts as well as follow along with Gametracker on the site.

The 2007 season also brought a new element to the website with the addition of webstream-ing of all home contests. Fans will see the game from different angles and can listen along with Chuck LaMendola as he provides the play-by-play of the game.

TCU BASEBALL ON THE RADiO AND iNTERNET For the 17th consecutive season, TCU fans can catch all the excitement of Horned Frog base-ball on KTCU 88.7 FM. The broadcasts can also be heard around the world by logging onto www.gofrogs.com. All games are broadcast live with the pregame show beginning 15 minutes before first pitch. Calling all the action for the Frogs is Chuck LaMendola. The 2013 campaign marks LaMen-dolas 17th season behind the microphone as the voice of Horned Frog baseball. A new feature to the world wide web in 2010 saw LaMendola move to the television side as TCUs Radio-Film-Digital Media department broadcast a majority of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 home schedule, providing multiple camera angels and commentary for the webstreaming. The games will also air either on a live telecast or tape-delayed on Fox Sports Southwest or Fox Sports Southwest Plus, a television station that is part of TCUs third-tier rights package. As a full time faculty member in TCUs Radio-Film-Digital Media department, LaMendola teaches television and film production as well as classes in the sports broadcasting area with-in the department. His Remote Sports Broadcasting class is responsible for the images on the

video board during Horned Frog football, basketball and baseball games. LaMendolas play-by-play broadcast of TCU baseball has been honored twice. The broadcaster earned a National Award of Distinction in 2002 and the 2004 Communicator Award. Chuck and his wife, Kelly, have two daughters, Francesca, who is a junior at TCU, and Juliana. The LaMendola family re-sides in Burleson.

2013 PRESEASON NOTEBOOKA NEW HOMEA new era began on Oct. 10, 2011 when Direc-tor of Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Del Conte announced that TCU would be joining the Big 12 Conference at the start of the 2012-13 season.

On July 1, TCU officially became members of the Big 12 Conference. It marks the fifth league in TCUs athletic history and the fourth conference affiliation for TCU since 1996.

The Frogs won seven conference titles in the SWC and seven in the Mountain West.

TCU has enjoyed success in each of the last three conferences. Since the demise of the Southwest Conference, the Frogs have posted a .675 (293-141) winning percentage in league play since 2007.

    League Years Record Pct.SWC 1923-96 511-715 .417WAC 1997-01 85-69 .552C-USA 2002-05 80-40 .667MW 2006-12 128-32 .800

FAMiLiAR FOESWhile TCU may be joining a new league, the foes will not be unfamiliar to the Horned Frogs and their fans. In fact, the Frogs will be renewing con-ference rivalries with four members of the Big 12.

TCU was conference foes with Texas Tech, Texas and Baylor from 1923-1996 when the Southwest Conference dissolved. From 1923-25, TCU and Oklahoma State met on the diamond as confer-ence opponents.

Since the demise of the SWC, the Frogs have not shied away from competition, playing 145 games against current members of the Big 12.

TCU and Oklahoma have met each season on the diamond since 1996. The Frogs renewed their se-ries with the Bears in 2000 and have played every year since. TCU has played Texas Tech in every season except 2006 and 2008.

POSiTiONAL VACANCiESA year ago, the Horned Frogs had numerous voids on the infield. This season the vacancies have been left in the outfield and behind the plate. All four positions are up for grabs.

The offensive punch in the lineup is gone as the Frogs will have to replace 48% of their total hits, 53% of their RBIs and 62% of its home runs. Col-lectively, the group hit .276.

Jantzen Witte is the lone all-conference field player returning, but a trio of sophomores came on late in the season to earn various all-tourna-ment accolades. Kevin Cron, Derek Odell and Jer-rick Suiter were tabbed all-tournament honorees in the conference tournament and the NCAA Re-gional.

A MOUND OF ExPERiENCELast season the Horned Frogs had a lot of holes to fill on the mound after the draft and graduation decimated the pitching staff. The opposite is the case this season as 10 of the 14 pitchers that saw action in 2012 return.

This season, the Frogs return 87% of the innings pitched return. The staff combined to start 61 of 62 games played and went 33-18 with five saves. They have an ERA of 3.35 as a group.

In the offseason, the Frogs added eight pitchers to their roster. Seven of the eight are freshmen. Three of them were drafted: Tejay Antone (22nd round; NY Mets), Alex Young (32nd round, Texas Rangers)and Mitchell Traver (39th round, Houston Astros).

ELiTE COMPANYSince Jim Schlossnagles arrival on campus nine years ago, the Frogs have been in an NCAA Re-gional. TCU is in some elite company with nine straight appearances, as only 10 other schools can lay claim to that accomplishment.

Those 10 schools include: Rice, Virginia, Arkansas, Oral Roberts, TCU, South Carolina, Florida State, North Carolina, Cal State Fullerton and Miami (Fla.).

Additionally, TCU is one of eight schools to have appeared in three of the last four Super Regionals (Florida, Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida State, Virginia, Texas and South Carolina).

Prior to coming to TCU, Jim Schlossnagle guided the UNLV Rebels to the tournament in 2003, giving him 10 straight postseason appearances.

ANOTHER MiLESTONE iN REACHWinning has become synonymous with Jim Schlossnagles name since his arrival on campus. It seems every year the head coach is chasing a record of some sorts and this season is no dif-ferent.

At 388 career wins as the TCU skipper, he needs just 12 victories to collect his 400th win at TCU. Additionally, he is just 35 victories away from 500 in his coaching career.

In 11 seasons as a head coach, Schlossnagle has a .677 (465-222) winning percentage. He ranks 11th in winning percentage among active coaches with at least five years of experience.

2013 TCU BASEBALL FACT BOOK 7

2013 PRESEASON NOTEBOOK 2013 PRESEASON NOTEBOOKPASSiNG THROUGH THE TURNSTiLESOver the past three seasons, the popularity of TCU baseball has reached all new heights. For the second straight season, the Frogs averaged over 4,100 fans per game. Since the start of the 2010 season, the Frogs are averaging 3,831 fans per game.

The Frogs ranked 11th nationally in average at-tendance in 2012 at 4,112 per game. Additionally, 131,610 fans passed through the turnstiles, a mark that also ranked 11th nationally. Both marks were tops among private schools. While both were tops in the Mountain West, they would have ranked second in the Big 12 as it is made up today.

In 2012, the Frogs saw four of the top 10 crowds and all 10 have come the last two seasons.

HOME SWEET HOMEThe Frogs have enjoyed the home cooking of Lup-ton Stadium since it opened in 2003. TCU has an all-time record of 234-78 (.750) at Lupton Stadi-um, tallying at least 20 wins in nine of 10 seasons.

In 2012, the Frogs boasted a 23-9 record in 32 home games. As a team, TCU outscored its oppo-nents 148-90. The Frogs tallied 42 doubles, eight triples and 10 home runs at home in 2012.

On the mound, the pitching staff enjoyed the friendly confines to the tune of a 2.45 ERA with five shutouts. The staff fanned 243 batters and held opponents to a .227 batting average against.

2013 SCHEDULE NOTESThe 54-game slate features 30 home contests and 17 games against teams that advanced to post-season play in 2012.

Five weekend opponents appear in at least one preseason Top 30 poll. Oklahoma (March 22-24) and Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 22-24) are ranked in all of the major polls, while Ole Miss (Feb. 15-17)finds itself in all but one preseason poll. Texas (May 16-18) and Baylor (April 19-21) are ranked in at least one poll.

Additionally, Dallas Baptist (Feb. 26/March 26) and Oklahoma State (April 12-14) are receiving votes in most polls.

TCUs longest home stretch is nine games. That will happen on two separate occasions during the season, March 5-17 and April 2-14. The Frogs lon-gest road swing is six games, May 2-12.

PRESEASON RESPECTThe last nine seasons have seen the Horned Frogs gradually imprint themselves on the national scene. No stranger to the rankings, the Frogs find themselves in the preseason polls for the fourth consecutive season.

TCU is ranked as high as No. 12 and as low as No. 15. The USA TODAY Sports coaches poll ranked the Frogs No. 12. Perfect Game and Baseball America have tabbed the Horned Frogs No. 14, while the NCBWA has ranked the Frogs No. 13. Collegiate Baseball ranked the Frogs No. 15.

Additionally, a trio of Horned Frogs have garnered preseason recognition as well. Preston Morri-son Kevin Cron and Andrew Mitchell have been tabbed preseason All-Americans.

THE YOUTH MOVEMENTThe Frogs added 17 newcomers to their roster in the fall. The group includes 10 freshman, one soph-omore walk on and six junior college transfers. Baseball America ranked the group No. 11.

Four members of the incoming class were drafted in Tejay Antone (22nd round), Paul Hendrix (32nd round), Mitchell Traver (39th round) and Alex Young (32nd round). The other freshmen are: Ri-ley Ferrell, Garrett Grim, Travis Hennessey, Paddy OBrien, Brian Trieglaff, Colton Turner and Boomer White. Nick Poulos is a sophomore.

Transferring to TCU were Kyle Bacak, Kevin Dan-iels, Dylan Fitzgerald, Cody Jones and Trevor Se-idenberger.

FROGS PiCKED SECOND iN BiG 12In its inaugural season in the Big 12, the TCU baseball team was selected to finish second af-ter receiving 55 points in a vote by the leagues coaches. TCU garnered three of the nine first place votes. Oklahoma was picked first, earning the other six first-place votes.

Texas was selected third, followed by Baylor in fourth. Oklahoma State was tabbed fifth, Texas Tech sixth, Kansas State seventh, Kansas eighth and West Virginia ninth.

AMONG THE NATiONS ELiTEThe TCU baseball team has put together six straight 40-plus-win seasons dating back to the 2007 campaign. Over the last six seasons, the Frogs have posted a 269-110 record for a .710 win-ning percentage.

The 269 victories ranks in a tie for seventh nation-ally, while the .732 winning percentage is also tied for seventh-best nationally. Both totals are tied with Rice for the best in the state of Texas.
