Registration/Login Dialogue
• Choose login name/password• Sometimes students enroll into
special groups in order to receive special treatment strategy, or particular courses only
• Important legal clause – saving personal data, depending on the country this might be subject to changes
• Full name and email address are optional
• Entering field of interests might affect the adaptation of examples in generated courses
• Specifying learning context restricts access to the material to those suitable for this context
Extended Book Concept : 3-Panel Interface
‣ Table of Contents on the left, hierarchical menu‣ Sequence of Learning Objects in the middle
panel‣ Related concepts and other Metadata in the right
panel
Extended Book Concept : Defining Bookmarks
Click to bookmark this page
The check box indicates a bookmark
Bookmarks show up in a separate panel in the dashboard
Left panel: Table of contents with progress indicator
Hierarchical structure
Progress indicators using percentages
Left panel: progress indicators
• Success indicators can have different modes showing different kind of progress• If the indicator type is set to success, only correctly solved exercises contribute
Left panel: progress indicators
Left panel: progress indicators
• If the indicator type is set to success, only correctly solved exercises contribute
Exercise incorrect
No success indicated
Left panel: progress indicators
• If the indicator type is set to effort, then all attempts contribute, even the wrong ones
Exercise incorrect
Success indicates a solution attempt
Left panel: progress indicators
• If the indicator type is set to mastery, then the success can also decrease
Exercise incorrect
Success decreaseswith incorrect solutions
Left panel: progress indicators
• If the indicator type is set to none, then no success indicators are shown
Right panel: Metadata of an item • Title and type of the Learning Object • Authors, Editors, Date of Creation, other general Metadata• License of the Learning Object
Right panel: Metadata of an item
• Languages in which the item is available• Relations to other items
Right panel: Switching Language of a LO
Switching the language here will affect the selected learning object
Right panel: Switching Language of an LO
Right panel: Social voting feature
• Distribution of votes by different users result into percentage of red and green colors
• Public comments as well as private notes can be attached to an item• Problems in content and system can be reported to the developers

Find exercises about derivatives
Click on one exerciseThe exercise opens
in a new tab and can be solved
Adaptive Course Generation
Choose a Scenario for the Course-Generation
Choose the topic (one or more concepts or a course chapter)
Adaptive Course Generation
Review the summary of the course generation parameters
Adaptive Course Generation
Generated course is adapted to the learner
Adaptive Course Generation
Micro- Course generation
• Near each exercise there is a button „more about the topic“
• A micro course about the focus concepts of the exercise is generated on click
• If the course is not adapted to the user, it always contains all the information about the topic and its prerequisites
Micro- Course generation• A generated static micro course can be very big, almost
not “mirco” any longer• It might be better if it is adapted to the learner
• The course is then much smaller• The learner only gets information he does not already
know• Examples in the course are adapted to the learner as well
Formula editor and further interactive elements• Formula Editor enables input of mathematical formulas• Exercises with simple answers can be solved without formula
editor• Formula editor can work with different palettes
Exercises types: Self Assessment
• Solve a Self-assessment exercises on the paper• Compare your solution with the given model solution• Estimate the correctness on own solution
Exercises types: multiple choice
• Single or multiple answer exercises possible• Flag Feedback via coloring the chosen answers red or green, plus
correct/wrong symbols
Exercises types: fill in blank
• Use formula editor for entering answers• Flag Feedback is presented in a form of coloring and special correct/wrong symbols
Exercises with intelligent Feedback using CAS
• „Flag Feedback” (Correct/Wrong)• Matching exact answers, as well as semantically equivalent
Intelligent exercises using Domain Reasoners
• „Flag Feedback” (Correct/Wrong)• Matching various correct (expert) solution paths• Error Feedback for typical errors via matching buggy-rules
Intelligent Exercises using Domain Reasoners
• Generated Next-Step hints on student’s solution path• hints with increasing level of detail• Generated Worked out solutions
Further interactive Elements
• Arbitrary external multimedia can be integrated into the system• A web2.0-based Framework allows for communication of
integrated external content with the user model
Thank you.

Hands-On Tasks
• Register in the System• Browse a Book• Click on Learning Objects
• Open Right Panel• Browse Metadata• Browse Related Los• Check Authorship, Copyright
• Make Bookmarks• Try to solve simple exercises to see the progress of success indicators• Wait for the Administrator to change the indicator type• Solve more exercises to see the progress indicators change in a different way• Wait for the Administrator to change the indicator type• Solve more exercises to see the progress indicators change in a different way• Use micro course generation by clicking on a button “weiteres zum thema”
